So beautiful...this is my story about this song... My dad was a jazz pianist performing and making 3 LP's in the late 50's / 60's. At the age of 15 I became a drummer for him traveling to various shows around South Africa. At the age of 16 I herd him playing it on the piano exactly as the mystro (Floyd Cramer) sounded, I just fell in love with that tune immediately. At the age of 18 was drafted into the army. The hour before my departure to board the train, I pulled my dad aside and asked him to just sit at his piano and play me "The Last Date" before I left. Which he did and we hugged and said our goodbyes. Needless to say that turned out to be our "Last Date". My amazingly talented father sadly passed away while I was serving in the army at the age of only 42 in 1972. So thank you for playing that song just as your grandfather did, I'm not sure where you are nowadays but just stumbling on this was so special to me...I am now almost 70, still drumming and still miss my ol pops terribly ...go well...
I lost my wife at the tender age of 65 in May last year and this came up on my FB page this morning and I cant get it out of my head. It reminds me of all the great times we had together over that past 16 years and and that our last date was in the hospice together where she died in my arms. My eyes are leaking while i write this. Thanks for a lovely tune.
WOW, thank you Jason for such beautiful and inspiring piano music. Your Grand Dad would be so very proud. I grew up listening to your Grand Dads music [I'll be 82 in 3 weeks]. His music got me through some tougher than normal military times [early 60's] and for that alone I will be forever grateful to Floyd Cramer. Thank you Jason for keeping up your Grand Dads impeccable and memorable legacy !
In a word, BEAUTIFUL! I fell in love with Floyd Cramer's music with the first song of his I ever heard, Last Date. That was in 1960 when it was released, Since then I've been buying his records and never cease to be amazed at his pure, raw talent. Keep up your grandfather's fantastic work.
My Mother love this song ❤I can say this that is one beautiful song ⚘️the only thing wrong is that the song is not long enough and i could listen to it all day and night ❤❤So Beautiful ⚘️⚘️⚘️🙏
I ran across this video, and It took all I could do to listen to it. But first, let me thank you, Jason, for keeping your grandfather's music alive. You see, I was born in 1960 when your grandfather wrote this song. And I grew up listening to music like his. I met my beautiful soul mate in 1978, and we married in 1979. She was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in 2011 and went through a long year of chemo and radiation. In December of that same year, her oncologist called us in his office after a pet scan of my wife and gave us the best Christmas present we could have wish for. He said she was cancer free after they removed a section of her left lung. In May of 2013, we went to see my daughter on Mother's Day, and we were at a place listening to a live band. And they played (Last Dance). My wife and I got up and danced to that beautiful song. I looked into her beautiful emerald green eyes and told her how much I loved her. We had such a wonderful time that night. Before we left. I paid the band to play (Last Dance) one more time. I kissed her and went back to my daughters. On June 1st. She collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, and she passed in my arms at 4:10 am. on June 3rd, 2013. The doctor said she contracted an infection in her body and from all the chemo and radiation she had the previous year. Her body could not fight it off. So that was our (Last Dance).😢😢😢 Thank you for sharing.
My mom could not read music, she played by ear and this was her best. She could play a lot of songs just by listening to them just once. We loved hearing her play. R.I.P my sweet mom. I love you and miss you.
This was always my favorite song but I love all Floyd Kramer's music. It takes me back to good times in my life. Thank you Jason for bringing it all back. God Bless💕
This is a iconic song of Floyd Cramer. I remember when I was 17, and my girlfriend’s brother played this song on a small record player. I haven’t seen one of those in about 40 yrs. I I was such a good person and I love music. As I got older I realized that the American way of life was disappearing. I didn’t understand what was going on, but now I realize that the much as things change, they stay th same. I am old now, but this song is a way of taking a time trip, back to when people were mostly civil, but everyone had a much kinder way, and that I will always greater. Mr. Coleman, you do Grandad a great job in preserving his legacy. God bless you; being kind and considerate and helping others will never be unpopular. I think society has to recalibrate, and the pitfalls of society will not be as deep and hurtful. People are hurting enough these days, but you are never really alone when you have music.
Is such a wonderful song I used to dance with my sweetie to it it would always bring tears to my eyes now that I no longer have a sweetie I still listen to and cry You're a lot of listen to a lot of music that makes tears come to my eye I might suggest one the song is when I get old by something in the doves is the band That's so beautiful song
And let me add a further statement to my previous comment that the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra did a beautiful job of adding to Jason's super rendition of his Grand Dad's favorite legacy tune. Thank you Jason and LGSO. I never get tired of hearing this fantastic piano musical piece !
I love this song so so much I first heard it at age 16 I am now 62 I never get tired of it I play it over and over again thank you for bringing back the good memory's God bless you❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
I remember when I was a little kid way back in 1968.. My great uncle would play this song on his blue piano and put me on his lap and put my hands on top of his and Play.... great great memories of yesteryear...
Jason has the song down..I seen a video when he was little playing with his grandfather...amazing..this song is what I have chosen to play at my funeral when they show my pictures growing up in my life..bless them...
It is so wonderful to hear your play the piano and keeping your grandfather’s music alive. This is absolutely one of my my favorite that he played. God bless you for carrying on in his footstep. I know he would have been proud of you.
With tears streaming down, I have to tell you what a wonderful tribute to your Grandfather, he has got to be so proud of you! And I want to thank you for such an amazing version of my favorite song, I already had this song on my funeral list as the last song to be played, but when I heard your version, I changed it to yours. This song is such a wonderful piece of pure heaven to hear it. And I thank you sincerely for honoring your grandfather in such a beautiful way. When I meet him in Heaven, i will thank him myself, too
Such a sad song, but so beautiful. Kudos to Jason for that beautiful rendition of his grandfathers famous instrumental. One of my all time favorites!!!
I was three when Floyd Cramer already a seasoned pianist wrote this song and played it, Now his grandson also plays it just as well as his grandfather who wrote the song!! They played this song together in another video here on RU-vid. Both were and are so talented!!!
As a proud baby boomer, I’d say Cramer was a very under-appreciated artist. This is pure classic stuff; no matter your age or your music style preference.
My future husband and I danced to this beautiful song in gym class in Nashville in 1962. It became Our Song. It will be the last song played at my funeral!
I’ve loved this song since I was a kid. Just listened to this video after seeing your granddad’s name mentioned on ‘Country Music’ show on LPB. Still love it. First time it made me cry though. My first time listening to it after losing my Mother. It was more their music at the time, I just loved this song. First time I saw a picture of your granddad as a young man also on the country music show. He was always older in anything I had seen him in. I was born in 1959. I remember his name and that song mentioned in an interview with a talented piano player who had played with many well known bands, something about playing 2 songs at the same time in that song, (I’m not a musician).
Beautiful! I remember when my Dad would play this song over and over (around 1964) and I would dance to it! Such a great memory! Hope you pass on legacy to your kids!❤️
I want to tell you : I was a lil’ girl in Gaspésie (Québec), and we had this 45 t’. I never knew where it came from and I was the only one in my family to love it so much I was listening to it repetitively! And still up to this day, about 59 years later, do I love to listen to it with the same emotions and pleasure. I salute your grand father and thank you so much for making his music lives 🧡💚💛
i have always loved Mr. Cramer's playing and still you do. thank you for keeping his legacy a live. This song has a unique catch the first 3 opening notes you can recognize it right off. Thank Mr. coleman keeping your grandfathers legacy and memory alive.
Jason you play this so well... I remember as a child driving with my dad hed always play this on cassette player...I miss those days. That being said I just gave up my career to go work with my father and its awesome.
Oh, the most beautiful song ever. You do great by your granddad. He smiles every time he hears you playing his song. When I pass it will be played a my cremation and ELVIS' TRILAGE. Thank-you for your beautiful talent like your granddad. Lv P Drozd
I can remember as a Child, walking into the Kitchen to the smell of Frying Chicken in the Cast Iron Skillet my Mom used to use, and hearing "THE LAST DATE" on the Kitchen Record Player. Both of my Parents have passed on now, but I will forever tie this Sweet Melody to My Mom's Fried Chicken.
That soulful funky blending of two keys. I remember when I was a kid , hearing that bending sound , on a piano! I listened for them to announce his name on the radio , have never forgotten Floyd Kramer. He is happy you're doing what you do ,imo.
