I hated the movie when I first saw it and thought it just doesn't flow right, but then went back and watched it again with an OPEN mind and saw how brilliant it really was! I'm a fan now for life!!!!!
"Its less of a film about Kurt Cobain and more of a film for Kurt Cobain" that sums it up so well that it should be on the poster for the movie lol I love Van Sant
Been having a michael pitt feast after watching him on boardwalk empire and being blown away by how good an actor he had become. I would never have imagined that this grungy indie kid could have convincingly played a 1920's gangster. I remember seeing last days when it came out, and generally thinking it was good. The scene with Kim Gordon breaks my heart. Micheal is great in it. Really holds your attention. Physically he plays it perfectly.
This movie is one of the best!! It really shows things as they were, with Kurt screwed up by drugs, real state of a fucked up mind and still all the art that is coming from it.
I like this movie and i think it is a realy brave move for an actor to take on such a role, Rather like Joaquin phoenix's performance in walk the line :) Well done Michael Pitt!
I believe him to be just very into his character Blake in Last Days, maybe that's why he seems so "depressed". Yet he is very, very talented actor. Each time I watch his films, I can feel the emotions so internally.
i don't care what anybody says i liked that movie. and i'm not suggesting that anybody see it either, because i can definately see why so many people dislike this film as well. for me, sometimes i will enjoy a film, but at the same time i cannot validate my reasons for liking it.
I think that more people should dress and act like pitt and kurt or anybody with a grunge feeling! Cause now and day's everyone is like loud and stuff..and pop that and emo this.. if we took the time to think like kurt for a little bit..u realize how fake this world is really...everyone using anybody!! Grunge is the way to go...it's beautiful music and melody!! We need more grunge bands and more influences like kurt and pitt!!! peace!!!
@jacobladders understand ur issue and totally agree with the behaving like kurt thing. But u know that (good)actors go thru this period post-filming where they kinda keep th character within them for a while. specially if he really worked on it like watching loads of interviews and worked hard on the body expression. It is hard to let go the character. I'm a huge kurt fan and i really admired the way he reproduced kurt's body language. Of course u can totally see it isn't him but still there was
michael pitt stars in a realy good movie called 'bully' check it out! it's on tv quite often does anyone know where i can see the full version of last days? thanks.
MICHAEL IS SUCH A GREAT TALENT BOY.... HE PLAYS KURT / BLAKE VERY WELL.. AND THE MOVIE IS NO BAD OK...
I think it's funny that so many people despised this movie. I guess some people just wouldn't see creative, artistic interpretation i if it hit them in the face. Just because a movie doesn't have 9 cuts every 10 seconds doesn't make the movie bad. You're all just mainstream addicts, get over it! Keep an open mind a bit, it was a beautiful film.
because the casting director casted him, and he auditioned for the part among many others, and GUS VAN SANT picked him. he's an "actor" not a casting director, or writer, or director, or agent, he's an ACTOR. see also, Val Kilmer as Jim M, in the Doors. it doesn't matter if you liked it or not, point is he was a believable character.
@Sarahleaf If you're refering to the cover picture as being "Kurt's picture", I assure you that it's Michael Pitt. And the story goes nowhere because the character isn't. It's to put you in that same state of mind (here I am repeating myself). It was done conciously, therefore it's creative. If it wasn't deliberate, THEN it would be lack of...
80% was improvized, and they had 15 pages to write a "map" of what was going to happen? I think whether you like the movie or not, we can all agree that it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to write out fairly accuratly what was supposed to happen in the whole film on about 3 pages...
It is, imo, almost sickening to see people trash such a superb movie. I think, like Pitt says, people were expecting answers to what happen to Kurt, making them miss the real point of the movie. It's sad, cuz this is nowhere near being a boring or "horrible" movie.
Kurt had a low tolerance, he was a rather small, skinny guy and could never have functioned with that amount of heroin in him. And there was valium in his system too. He would have gone into a coma before he could fire the gun, in fact there is an 85 percent probability he was dead before the gun was fired (which would explain the low incidence of blood), making it murder my friend.
@jacobladders youtube... i would have hated it! really pretty much to see that! And i find the movie quite polite on that, no dialogues, no trying to reproduce kurt's life. he didn't touch his songs even(which i don't see as only a copy rights issues, it was a choice). When i lost someone dear, as Kurt to all of us, what i find so hard to overcome is that i'll never be able to produce more memories of that person...i'm just trying to say that ..if gus would try to reproduce fake memories of him
michael pitt is a fine actor, saying he's a kurt wanna be, means you didn't even watch the movie, and its Gus Van Sant, who directed him to be that character.. not Michael's fault. its like saying James Franco is a James Dean wanna be, because he protrayed him in the James Dean story. Think people, i know you'll get dizzy so sit down and think. unless your stoned, then just don't comment, just smoke more weed.
@greatfelixo He plays someone called blake who is supposed to like be kurt cause he dresses and acts like him with his 2 band members and stuff, it's hard to explain..
@DrunkenLeprechaunPro well said, you got it right & I couldn't agree more! the film does put you into that mind frame & anyone who has been manic and suicidal will understand completely, it's hard to watch sometimes but it definitely isn't laking in creativity or raw emotion.
Talk about staying in character! Oh and to @LiveMotor I'll answer that:Courtney Love would not allow to use the actual names. But she's friendly with Michael.
This guy is a pretty talented character actor. He has alot of people thinking that this is how he is normally. Think of him more like Borat. He is playing a character. In this case, he's in the role of a drug addict who has it in his mind to kill himself.
@greatfelixo Obv's, he plays blake (kinda like kurt) in his last few living days, but nobody knows what Kurt did in his last living days so its fiction it even says at the end of the movie - plus Dave and Krist wern't sleeping together so its obv's fake....
@jacobladders obviously didn't try to sell out his story as a novel or something. He just gave a thought about it... Idk man...i'm just guessing, don't even know what gus said about the movie... But after all the bad things i imagined that could come out of the movie, it turned out ok for me. I found it subtle... It sure leaves a sense of emptiness... but that can't ever be filled up anyway. man..i just wrote more here in some minutes than on my research paper for days, fuck! cheers!
this may shock you too i work on movies and tv shows, I KNOW,i live in Los Angeles, this is a GUS VAN SANT movie,Michael wasn't a producer or anything else in this movie just an actor, it wasn't "his" movie at all. the comments youmade make it seemlike you hang out with Michael or know him personally, and personally i know you don't. ALL i'm saying here is that he was acting, good or bad, regardless if you like it or not, he was acting, its GUS VAN SANT who directed him to be this charACTer.
I love Michael Pitt, but I love Ryan Gosling more!!! They both are awsome actrs!!! They were aswome in Murder by Numbers, with the very sexy Sandra Bullock!!
@Sarahleaf Don't sensationalize Kurt, he hated the idea of people seeing him as a product of the MTV culture. Nirvana was over at that point in his life, and he was moving on to do music you would probably find unbearable (A more bluesy feel, ala Ledbelly). Read his journals, he didn't feel like anyone understood him, not even his friends and family. You want to glorify him and make him into something he is not. This is what he hated so much, and what made him feel isolated from everyone.
@jacobladders something of him there that isn't just cheap low imitation... and just as i thought during the movie and he confirmed it in the interview gus intent was to do something for kurt and not about kurt. and reading it like that the movie is not pretentious at all. i guess the movie thinks about kurt as a lot of us do... imagining what happened, what he thought, it's just a filmed thought i guess...
@jacobladders i would hate him for that. When i say i see the movie as a "thought". I think gus was not reproducing it and stating "i know what happened" which would be disrespectful, but it was more like materialising into a film the things he wondered... I've wondered too... tried to imagine in my head what he was doing, when did it crossed his mind to do it, if he did it in fact, etc. And it is worth as a tribute cus of that, he's not trying to catch all kurt's life in some minutes, he
i really liked the movie :) and nah this movie wasnt about kurt, it took the image of kurt, but its really not about kurt cobain himself, theres no actual facts in the movie. but yeah i love micheal pitt in the movie "bully" hes just generally a really good actor, maybe this movie wasnt your thing if your complaining, but dont think the whole blake thing is the only thing he can do, he can pull off alot of really cool characters :)
