Agreed. As a Lion fan growing up (until I defected to the Bears in 1999) the Redskins were always my 1A NFL team, until Snyder crapped them out..now they are the - ahem - Commanders.
@@lousanto1054 your 100% right, as soon as Snyder bought the team it went from a fine respectfully run franchise to all of a sudden being run to the ground, and it's a shame for all the great Commander fans!
That’s absolutely correct. I remember we were really a dominating team back in the Joe Gibbs days in the 80’s & early 90’s. I really hope we play better now but Dan Snyder really screwed us down. Miss saying this Hail to the Redskins!
I grew up a redskins fan, my elementary teacher was a die hard fan and taught me everything about the game. I switched to the Ravens after the RG3 debacle, best choice I’ve ever made. Dan Snyder doesn’t deserve our money and attention

I agree but it was too old, it didn't have luxury boxes like we know them today, and it was a small stadium for football, it was small at the time and it would have been smaller in today's era. Upgrades can be made, but it takes money and patience. Green Bay and Chicago have done an amazing job in staying with the times.
RFK was one of the best stadiums in the NFL...great home field advantage...this GIants fan misses his team making the annual trip to RFK and those legendary Giants-Redskins games. If we won there, it felt like a huge accomplishment because Washington was tough as nails under Gibbs
That's true. Washington being in middle between North, and South. But, even more than the Giants were the games between Cowboys and Redskins. Beating the Cowboys really mattered if you were from around Washington. Same beating. the Redskins if you were from Dlallas. RFK was where I saw the Washington Senators play when it was D.C. Stadium before the name chang, drink Ripple Wine, saw Concerts, and most importantly saw the Redskins play live a few times. Tickets were hard to get. Man, that place just rocked when the Redskins played!!! Much better ownership then.
I’m the biggest redskins fan in south Texas. I attended the opener 1995 game against the cardinals. Singing HTTR while jack Kent Cooke leaned out of his box was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The entire stadium would shake. Great atmosphere
I am truly proud to be a Skins fan, no matter what others say, nothing will stir my faith from the Skins, every year I'll support and cheer, if we lose, then we lose, no excuses, but that won't stop me from putting on my Redskins jersey , hat, jacket, chain, gloves, and scarf every monday-sunday, #HTTR
There was magic in that old place. I think it was Charles Mann who said that RFK by many's estimation was dump compared to the newer stadiums but he finished his statement by proclaiming "it was our dump!" I really wish during an anniversary year they would go back and play one more game there
I keep coming back to this video today. I knew this day would come. I was less than a year old when they played the final game at RFK. I missed out on the glory years. I never got to see my team play at what I consider the best stadium with the best home field advantage in the NFL. I never got see them win a super bowl, and I had to witness so many lows over the years, but I loved this team more than anything. My love for the team connected me to family I never got the chance to meet. Despite all the lows I have endured, I would not trade any of the great memories watching and attending games with my dad and my younger brother. Nothing lasts forever, except for my belief that I will always love my team in the Nation’s Capital. Hail forever!
Well said my friend. I grew up a Skins fan and so was my dad. I was 5 years old when Joe T. got his leg broke. I got to see some really good years even though I was really young. I'm from Charlotte so when we got the Panthers I had to pull for our hometown team...but the Skins will always have a special place in my heart. I love that Ron R. is now the coach. Hopefully he can pull some strings and take them back to the SB. Its been WAY too long! HTTR and #keeppounding. :)
I was 11 when we lost to the Undefeated Dolphins and I lost my first bet ever, $5 to a grown woman. Five weeks allowance. I had to wait around 10 yrs, for Riggo to break that 4th & 1, for the game winner. The one I'll never get over is the Raiders the very next year. No way we ever should have lost that one. I still have my Program from this game. I wonder if a 25yr old program is worth anything.

That little icon photo is in the front yard of my dorm(Muse) when I was a broke College student. Back then 60% of the kids in VA wore Skins' jerseys on Sunday, 30%Cowboys, & 10% other. Do you remember when the D-line tipped that ball, & Sweat took it in for a TD on Dallas. Have you ever looked at highlights from 1982? NFC Championship against Dallas, when the fans had the endzone bleachers bouncing after DL Gen.(Darryl) Grant tipped the Cowboys pass, caught it, and went rumbling & bumbling in for a TD. I thought the bleachers were coming down. That was my first game & I got a free ticket. But, if you respond, I may have something for you, better than the program.
I think owners in the NFL are trying to turn this franchise into and NFL owned. By having allowed Snyder to purchase the team with his many questionable business issues they knew he would not do this franchise well. Owner when bringing a potential new owner in generally check their background thoroughly. I don't believe all of what has occurred was a stunning development to them.
Washington Redskins, the greatest franchise of all time! Watching Redskins has been my hobby for my whole life. I haven't missed seeing a game since 1990, either live or on TV. I have meet Sonny and I was born on the same day Joe Theisman was born 09/09/1949. My nickname is "Chief".
I flew up from Florida to go to this game,( and see family for the holidays) I have been and will always be a REDSKIN fan. I dont care what the call them. HTTR
RFK Stadium was a great place for Redskins games in D.C. Redskins fan in NJ! GO Redskins! P.S. Dallas fans had a bad day in that stadium sitting in thier seats watching the skins just destory the cowboys!

There are no fans in the NFL better than the fans of the Washington Redskins. I love this team and I love its rich heritage. Granted we haven't won as many games as we would have liked in the last 20 years but we are still one of the greatest. Hail to the Redskins! Hail Victory! Braves on the Warpath! Fight for Ole DC!
Theres a lot to comment here, I'll save that for another time, but I'm so glad Fox TV broadcast this game in L.A. and that the Redskins did not waste the opportunity to clobber the Cowboys. If it had to end, this is about the best way.

This game is one of my first real memories of the team. I was about nine and it was one of the few games you could see in Jersey in the dark days before Sunday ticket. I grew up in Jersey but I always knew I bled burgundy and gold! Three generations!
This is still the best version I've heard. It's too bad Mr. Kent Cooke died, the team hasn't been the same since that spoiled rich kid took over the team.
Jack could have prevented that by selling the team to a son John instead of being all idealistic (He left him lots of money but he screwed him on the Redskins without there being any rift and screwed the fans of course too incidentally)
I was at that game, and I met several old Skins' players in the parking lot, before the game. Jacoby blew my mind. He looked like a former basketball player, he had lost so much weight. I dug up a bit of turf from the fifty yd line. And the funnest part was, even though they didn't play, Troy & Deion were on front seat of this bus that came rolling through those of us fans, who were waiting for the players to come out afterwards. We flipped them off and told them how Dallas Sucks, in a fun rivalry manner, and they just grinned and waved, like that's what they expected us to do. Besides, they were going to the playoffs and we were going to Landover to die.

Redskins won their opening game today. Until they actually adopt a new name I am not going to stop calling them the Redskins because somebody else is trying to decide for me that I can't call them that!
I'll call them Redskins AFTER the new name and I'm not even a fan. Hail to the Football Team doesn't quite do it. If they really wanted to make the name less offensive they should have nixed "Washington"
As a native Washingtonian, and thinking back to the days of Theismann, Riggins, & Monk - this made me tear up a little. First pro game I ever attended was @ RFK.

Wasn't a Redskins fan growing up (Dallas fan), but now, looking back, RFK was a great place for football. The field could get a little swampy and I loved the mud on the white Redskins uniforms, which can't be replicated with rubber beaded infill. And by the way, weren't the home Redskins uniforms about the sharpest thing you've ever seen? And then there was the amber in the RFK stadium lights that gave a late November game on CBS a golden glow. I'll always associate Madden and Summerall with the Cowboys, but also with Redskins games. And remember when NFL offenses looked different from team to team? Like Joe Theismann dropping straight back, and then sprinting out to the right and throwing a perfect pass to Charlie Brown or Art Monk. followed by the bouncing endzone and "Hail To The Redskins." I'd be sitting in my parent's house (kid at the time) in the warm TV Room watching on a color console TV while Mom was making dinner. Man. What I'd give to go back and appreciate the time even more. Today's NFL is boring. It's like every time team has been issued the same playbook from New York, and everyone runs the exact same "White 80. White 80" plays. Watching late season Redskins games at RFK had this odd combination of a fall pickup football game + high school and college all rolled into an NFL Game.
I’m a diehard Raven fan, born in 03. But all the way back to when I was a kid, I always said my second favorite team was the Redskins. My father and my grandmother were super fans, and I always grew up around the logo and the song being played. Don’t get me wrong, I BLEED purple. But I still love the Redskins. Probably just because I reminisce on my father and grandmother being huge super fans of them. It sad the way the team went out the way it did, but at least my father and grandmother got to see the golden days. Maybe one day, we’ll see the Skins make a comeback officially. In my heart and in my head, they can call the Washington team whatever they want “officially” in the NFL. They’ll always be the Washington Redskins for me. HTTR!
RFK quickly became a dump unfortunately. I was there for the maryland-ecu bowl game a few years back and it has really started to show its age. Fine for a soccer team but there is a reason why the nationals moved out.

I love that the fans are chanting "Dallas sucks" "Dallas sucks"! Lol I loved going to games at RFK! The stadium actually vibrated when the fans went crazy! I am always going to call them the Redskins.
The Washington football team should have never left rfk stadium they should definitely go back there now that they’ve changed the name I think that’s part of the reason they had to leave there

Way before everyone got woke and butt hurt and offended and loved the name it makes me sad that this was such a great American pastime and now they treat it like it's garbage screw you cancel culture and ruining a great football franchise I know Dan Snyder is not the best owner in the NFL and he is hurt the team more than he's helped it but at least he tried his damnedest to keep the name all hail the Redskins!
Well with the new owners it looks like you Washington fans might get your old name and stadium back. It sounds like the new owners might be thinking about moving back into this stadium after some costly renovations of coarse.
What has gone right in Washington since Snyder purchased the team? Nothing. This is what you get when a team owner can care less about tradition and fans. But purchases the team for the tax write offs.
dude skins fan here i feel exactly the same way. the slight distaste i have for the giants is just for being in the nfc east. but for the cowboys and eagles my hatred couldnt be any stronger. i was glad the giants beat the patriots in those two superbowls but if it were dallas or philly i'd unfortunately have to root for the patriots
