It was heart breaking. I and my family will never forget our business class round trip Tokyo-Vancouver flight in June 2010 with B747-400. We will miss you.
My first flight with JAL was on the 747 back in 2008. It was one of the best flights I've ever taken. It's sad to see my favorite airplane of all time retire from one of my favorite airlines. I hope JAL orders the 747-8!
The incomparable Boeing 747 served JAL well for four decades. It was the aircraft that really began a great partnership between JAL and Boeing that continues today with the 767, 777 and now the 787 Dreamliner.
It broke my heart when I saw the last JAL flight leave Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport. It was heartbreaking to see the video of the last JAL Boeing 747 leaving the fleet. Japan Airlines: I'll always remember the way you took care of your passengers as heartwarming. Bless you !
A true sign of the times. In a just few years, the 747 will be a very rare sight to see. Whereas, just a few years ago, it was very common to see 747s everywhere at most major airports. :(
A great send off for the "Queen of the Skies" on her final flight for JAL. To the best of my knowledge, the incomparable 747 was the first aircraft JAL bought directly from Boeing.
Man, I didn't know they were retiring their entire 747 fleet! I'm glad I had the remarkable experience of flying one back in 2006. Here's to the financial health of JAL and perhaps the return of the 747 in the future. Maybe they'll work something out.
@thepowelljr the B747s were replaced with B767s or B777s. I flew the last revenue B747 flight from TPE-NRT last year, now this schedule is flown by B767s. JAL has drastically reduced its fleet under their reorganization. Its sad the B747 and to some extent the A300s had to go.
I know , I took the 767 with JL 017/018 and it was actually better experience this time with the Magic V entertainment system instead of the older Magic III for the 747. I'd love the majestic 747 but in the end, safety and inflight service counts more for me.
its not so bad really. I flew to tokyo in jal 767, i still enjoy the excellent in flight service, newer entertainment systems. I undestand why they had to phase out 747 because of efficiency.
hate to said it but looks like its almost the end for 747. now that the twin jets are able to compete against the 747 performance. many airline start phasing them out. first the gorgeous wide body trijets now the 747. even airliners are beginning to phasing out a340. damn those freaking twin jets
