37 here, played it as a kid also. Never really got far but I didn't care, I was still blown away by the music and the super-detailed (at the time) environments.
@@CopiousDoinksLLC Same here, I never knew where I to go in the game and the Last Ninja games bored me quickly, but the music and graphics are amazing.
A true story. I managed to complete all three Ninja games on the C64, but it took me years to do it. The third one took me until the mid 90s. In the mid 2010s I replayed all three games to see if my brain and hands were up to it. Back then they still were and I remembered things and how to do stuff. One thing I remember having nightmares about was The Basement in LN2. Years went by in the late 80s/early 90s for me to figure out where the poison was and then how to jump on the boxes. Every time I hear this music I'm back there, more than 30 years ago, stuck. And then one day I figured it out. But this level, for me, is the most haunting one. I love the music but love/hate the memories. Hard games, but they did open up the mind. Those were some amazing times for games in general. You approached them with caution because you knew they were going to smack you in your face.
What a rapid trip down memory lane. I had the version of this on the Amiga that came with a rubber throwing star and full pullover ninja hood. Great times
22:33 you can disable the Alarm by going into the other room, that way when you fight the guy in the stairwell he will not almost kill you with his boosted power when the alarm is tripped. 22:52 you can flick the lights on before entering the dark room where you have to figure out the path. Also for added fun each time you switch the lights on/off you get 500 points... you can do this as much as you like to boost your score.
Best C64 game ever. Back in the 80s, I used to spend some afternoons in the school's computer room, which was equipped with C64, and one of them had a big color TV (the others green monochrome). Was I lucky when "the one" was available and I could go for LN2! Memories...
my favourite mag was C+VG (computer & video games) .. i collected nearly all of em between 1985-1992, however im not sure if i still have them in the loft.
I have a lot of Xerox(yes people, that was what people called copy machines back in the 80's), copies of those same magazine pages that I paid about .10/page to copy off those same magazine tips/tricks at the regional library. The trick was to get there before all of the older kids would get to it and rip out the pages like the jerks they were. No way my parents would spring for anything but Time and Nat Geo subscriptions to our house and I think most of those personal computer mags even back then were about $1.10 and up so, that was my only option to fuel my C64 addiction, haha.
Those were the great days. No social media, but just good cartoons after school on TV and great video games 🎮 on C64. Not forgetting going out on my BMX bike.
This is amazing!!! I loved this game as a kid, I could never get past the carts. Watching this and then seeing the final level brought all nostalgia back. The sound track still bangs to this day!! Many feels were felt 😂🤣😂🤣😂 It's a shame this and the 1st one weren't included in the retro console.
My thoughts exactly. The 64 games included in the mini were definitely not the best 64. I'd say a quarter are good another quarter playable and the rest not worth putting on. Fortunately it is pretty easy to ad games to the mini through USB. It's the only console I been playing the past few months and I have a ps3, Xbox and others.
19:23 - What a view! I remember playing this as a kid, thinking about the possibilities of future graphics. Now it's 2020, and I'm about to load Mirror's Edge: Catalyst.
1:32 The scroll actually has no use. The computer code at 18:00 isn't random but equal to the play time at the start of the Office level. 19:25 if you wait for a short while here, you can see Superman flying by. Awesome game, awesome music.
The key to it was to use the MODE CHANGE option by pressing "J" on the keyboard, pressing J twice would make it so which ever direction you tapped it would face that way, it made it tons easier. J Twice, then tape the joystick the direction you wanted to face then J to revert back to default control.
You reckon that's annoying, what about the office stage trying to work out how to proceed and get further! Got the code and then after a hour gave up. Secret door was too secret, no hints at all the you have to pull some secret stick to open the door, and what about that high powred fan !!! Other than that the game is perfect. I can't believe I finished this as a kid without a walkthrough - mind you I had a friend who we would work together in sharing our knowledge.
Wanted to see how to get down from the stupid roof w. the stick... Ended up listening to the music in the background, forgetting everything about the game. Nice!
I bought this and Amiga Bubble Bobble together. Couldn't get home quickly enough. If the Sewers loading tune were female I'd marry it (and there are some pretty tunes here for sure!).
The music for "The Basement" (12:29) is still cool as shit to this day. Matt Gray did a bang up job taking over the music from Ben Daglish and Anthony Lees from the first one.
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays I will! I remember seeing, hearing and playing this one on my real C64 years ago and it was a great experience. The only thing I can compare it to, musically, was the first time I heard Rambo:First Blood Part 2's *AMAZING* intro and high score music. To me, at the time anyway, it was light years ahead of anything else at the time as far as music goes. Still makes me smile to this day whenever I hear it. The game itself was so-so, but the music was 10/10 (in my opinion).
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays Also, have you seen this live band rendition of the Central Park theme from LN2? Sounds great! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZYupKsqwDuM.html
Most of the time when I played this as a kid, I died because I had no idea for what every item is xD I had no clue about the levels and the game controls were difficult. The music were great ^^
No argument from me :) Mike Clarke did a good cover of the soundtrack for the Amiga, but the game is really quite sluggish when compared to the C64 version.
19:59 - this segment reminds me of the end of the first map of the first Mirror's Edge (2008) game. Just like here we reach the roof with a ladder. On our left is a taller building where our friend Celeste is waiting for us. To our right there is a sack. AND forward is the direction we need to go to catch a flying helicopter to finish the map. Coincidence?
Due to being shit at this and thus unable to correctly time my jump onto the first boat I was unable to get out of Central Park and have been stuck in there since 1989. This game is wonderful, it is great to be able to see it in its entirity.
It required pixel perfect precision, just like the ridiculous jumping puzzles! From memory, if you don't grab the chopper in time, you need to redo the entire level for it to re-spawn.
Honestly I think 1& 2 are way much better than the 3d. Enviroments are less detailed but have more personality, music is awesome and gameplay makes more sense with recognizable objects and enemies.
There was a prototype that System 3 were working on for the original Xbox that got canned, but I hadn't heard about anything more recent - it wouldn't surprise me though 😃
OH FFS! So you did not have to fight every single one :-O = I was a very shitty ninja in 1988 :-/ Still my first BIG game to complete 15:25 Ah! Here we are ☠️ I REMEMBER (poor joystick) ..jump puzzles...sigh
Well some of it, listen for yourself: Tangerine Dream: Alchemy of the Heart = Last Ninja 2 Mansion stage Tangerine Dream: Midnight in Tula = Last Ninja 2 Office stage loader I don't know if there are more.
***** Absolutely not. I don't even know if anyone's noticed until recent years. Also, I don't think anyone cared at the time, if you made direct C64 covers of actual songs. Matt's still a well respected C64 musician to this day.
WOW, thanks for the info bro. I never knew about this. Matt's version is much greater, but still easy to hear it's a remake of Tangerine Dream =) I would love to know the original artists of the other tracks (if also they are remixes). Nice to hear the original version. Matt made them BADASS though =)
probably the least ninja ninja game ever made. Might as well have called this Worst Ninja. I mean i'm not saying the game sucked, but this ninja can't be stealthy and can't fight. He can hardly beat a beat cop.
@@DanafoxyVixen You should delete your comment, go away for a bit , think up a stronger diss and then comment again because right now you are to the art of the diss as this last ninja is to the art of ninjutsu.
