I like to come back to this when I need cheering up . I love how it portrays Yorkshire folk. Compo, Clegg and Foggy were the best and so amusing together. Nora Batty, Ivy, Edie and Wesley, Auntie Wainwright, Pearl and Howard I love them all. Rest in peace and thank you for the non-trashy TV unlike that which surrounds us these days.
@@ruthdavies7550 Same age as me, Ruth. My second favourite episode of the lot. I recommend Oh Shut Up and Eat your Choc Ice - best of them all. Seymour is so eccentric!!!
@ruthdavies7550 , I am in the U.S. and watched this from the early 90's when PBS began airing it. I only wish that I could find every episode, from the very 1st episode to the very last. I'm sitting here watching this, laughing so hard that the tears are running down my legs!😂🤣😅
Man I miss all those folks, it was one great show, ran for a long time too, because it was so good! That Compo he was a damn nut, sht they were all pretty nutty that’s what made it so good! A lot of good ones from here have passed on too, R.I.P. all!
Thank you to all the cast and crew of this wonderful show for all the years you made us laugh hope you’re all making everyone laugh wherever you are now R I P
I still find it hard to believe, after meeting Bill Owen (Compo) in person many years ago, that he actually spoke with a middle class Cockney accent in reality, but could do a beautiful Yorkshire brogue (Just like my own :-D) with no problem at all. I truly miss all these wonderful people, but in my mind, their bodies may have passed away, but their characters and legends will live on eternally :-)
@@dpinto6278 He was a true gentleman, loved talking to his fans, and put on his character for anyone who wanted it. Wonderful, warm personality, who fell in love with Holmfirth, where they filmed the series, and is now buried there.
He gave me a rabbit when I was a kid my dad told me. He met him and it's weird cos my dad was the split of him They was like twins in everyway and my dad was from yorkshire Barnsley as am i. I never met him sadly but true story according to my dad. But I always wondered if they was twins same size and hair in everyway quite scary when I look back now.
Last of the summer wine... Perhaps. More like , the generation that saved the world. Trying to have a childhood that they missed. Before they are called to come to God. WWG1WGA
Love this episode but there are so many holes in the plot. First of all if Barry’s Uncle Eric was asking Nora about Christmas hampers surely Edie would know all about it and he’d have asked ALL the ladies. Secondly why do we see Nora at the bar, then at home in curlers in the next scene, then being dropped off at home without a wrinkle in the next scene?? I guess I’m just a nerd but man do I love LOTSW!! Can’t get enough!!
We got the box set at Christmas did your wife get yours? At the moment we are watching re- runs on TV channel 20 (drama)it's on at 7.20 every week day at the moment it's with truly being the 3rd man
I love this show! Compo ( Bill Owen) really made the show! He was so funny! My neighbor used to call me every afternoon and we would watch the show and have a good laugh! Both Bill Owen are gone now, I miss them both!
Think about how it would be without the music of Ronnie Hazelhurst His musical score is incredible Listening to the clarents and violins sets the mood Thank you mister Hazelhurst 😊😊
Iconic person, makes me miss the days when life was like this, not the rubbish we have today. Would love to live around this area as I love the outdoors, very expensive though unfortunately
The best of this show were until Foggy left, the 70’s and early 80’s were the best, every episodes is like looking back to times sadly gone for good, if they were to do a new series now it could not be imitated, just like they tried it with Porridge and the film version of the Sweeney with Ray Winstone, no chance it would work.
Decent little programme. Makes me think of Sundays as a child. Watching it, I mean. I wasn’t a retired Yorkshireman as a child. Nor am I now. You get the point.
For those not aware of it, this series holds the record for longest running tv comedy series in continuous production. The first episode was aired in the early 70s and ORIGINAL episodes were still being filmed in 2007...IIRC. Obviously, by the end, the majority of the original cast had gone to their eternal reward. This series played on some PBS stations in America but did not prove to be all that popular, I am assuming because it is a bit too gentle in its comedy. When I first saw this series I was " middle-aged ", now that I am as old as many of the cast members were when this was filmed...I find it even more endearing. Nora Batty reminds me of my grandmother, tho I seem to remember my grandmother as dressing with more style. And the men remind me of my father's friends who used to meet once a week for card playing. It was the same night my mother met with her friends to play cards, so both had nights out.
Howard Kerr, I'm American and have watched BBC all my life. I adore the comedies, but I also love the mysteries. Watched father Brown last night. I too love the simple, clean, un political and dry humor. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙂🙂🙂💚
Those in charge at the BBC didn't have to like the show themselves, but they should have shown respect for the audience. If it pleases and is successful, then it can't be wrong. The cancellation of the series was wrong.
Thanks for the upload, I love the humour (I'm Lancastrian), this was my Dads favourite programme, I didn't understand why at the time but as I got older I did.🌹
English Welsh British accent cobblestone streets rolling hillsides brick houses with basements that rent out warm and happy people beautiful establishments and wonderful pubs I love it
Started watching these original series after watching all with Frank Thornton group and thick accents require I listen carefully but still funny, funny, funny ❤
Loved this show!!! It ranks at the top with Mr. Bean, As Time Goes By, Keeping up Appearances, May to December, Open All Hours, The Old Guys, Are you being Served, To the Manor Born, The Cafe' and Allo Allo.
14.26-14.34 - Compo's face when he's being insulted, "because you look disgusting", but you have to love how the insults just roll off him, 14.45-14.47 - "arr, but apart from that", lol! Bill Owen was great in the role of Compo.
"the way Compo goes on about Nora is kind of silly and to him she maybe beautiful but he just goes on a little bit too much, he's just to nosy when it comes to her."-😄🖥🍺☕🌐..
This is my favorite show. I love all of them and would have liked to have been there and met them all. Truly wonderful performers! Their characters were so believable. Roy Clarke is a brilliant writer. Oh how I miss them all.❤
