No match for "Steptoe and Son" "Dad's Army" "The Likely Lads " or "The Good Life" It's the beautiful West Yorkshire countryside that is the real star here. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Well, let's give a nod to Hogans Heros and McHale's Navy...English actor Richard Dawkins contributing greatly to Hogans... Neither however had the subtlety or realism of the UK Britcoms, but they were/are a hoot...

I started watching Dr. Who on Tulsa PBS in 1973. Got hooked on British comedy then. Now have watched every episode at least 4 times. I have the full Black Adder DVD set, the full Red Dwarf set, Fawlty Towers full set and a couple of other sets. Vastly superior to most American comedy.

I've been a big fan of British Comedies since I first discovered Fawlty's Tower, Black Adder and Monty Python on PBS in my early teens, growing up in Connecticut in the late 60's. I'd still prefer it over American Comedy any day.

BY FAR. Only problem being is these guys are making the angels laugh now but I miss them...

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"

Alvin is no Compo. But he is ok. I don't know why Roy Clarke had to make the female characters so miserable. There are several exceptions in Glenda and Davenport.

It's funnier this way. Also I think their women being the way they are is why they spend so much time rambling the countryside...and thinking up odd things to do.
