This was build custom by the company for a customer for logging in 1995, 4 years after the company changed to a parts manufacturer. It is the p12 w3 (might be the biggest model, I’m not sure) the first p12 was made in 1972 and the p16 model was made through early 50s but not branded as the p16, it was officially called the p16 in 1964.
No its the p12 the one in the video but the p12 w3 is the biggest but it dwarfs even this, edit: or ultra trucks from what I can tell the p12 w3 and p12 ultra? Or just ultra trucks are definitely the largest built for SAR (South African Railways) max capacity of something like 360 tonnes
Pacific made the toughest trucks on the planet. I guess companies didn't want to spend the extra money on these trucks. Even though a Pacific would outlast ANY other logging truck for years to come. Sad day when they built the last one...
@@Bear39224they have all the original blueprints of everything and still make some parts but the actual manufacturing buildings have all been torn down
I operate eight Pacific P12W3 6x4 units four of them powered by Cummins KTA 650hp and the other four of them powered bybCummins VTA28 1350hp derated to 950hp. Still operational in South Africa after being rebuilt in 2009 after running over a million miles.
I was at Pacific from 77 to 87.Some of the first trucks I worked on were the SAR trucks..The final order was just being finished..I had heard the remainder of the trucks were being rebuilt.I believe there was 24 in all..Some of the biggest trucks we ever built....I remember the trucks well...
Sorry...you are way off.Last truck rolled out of the plant in 90/91..I spent my whole time there in production and mainly doing P-12's and P16's...Look at the web site for Pacific's.Photo's from all years of the trucks.....Cory
Wes...I just chatted with Greg B..He and Mike C were there till 96.Larry,Mike S and Rollie were still there.Larry and Mike S are still at Pacific Truck in New West.Rollie retired about a year and a half ago...Cory
I drove one of the first Pacific that came out with the International cab after Int. bought out Pacific. The song hints that drivers will never be outdated unfortunately they are experimenting with full automated trucks, no drivers.
Coast hasn't had one of these.This one was built for Soda Springs Mine and they already have 2..Very unique P-12 built for Soda Springs.The whole build was video'd and on y-tube here...Coast did just rebuild a P-12 tho...I was at Pacific from 77-87
