Late Summer Afternoon Cub Flying after a Flooded Start and near miss With a Few Deer.

After three days of Airbus Flying, it was nice to get out to the airport to go hit up some Grass strips. I flooded the engine when it didn't quite catch on the first few pulls, but fortunately starting a flooded Continental is pretty easy. Once I got it going I went to Allen's (3nj9), Pemberton, (3nj1) and Redwing (2N6) followed by a few laps back at home before the sun went down. It's really hard to beat sunset flying int he Summer with the doors open. I never really have a propose other than doing three point landings, wheel landings, slips to a landing, and simulated engine outs.

Pops learned to fly with the Army 101st Airborne. After his special forces patch and jump wings, and After Libya and Germany, He signed up for training in a spotter aircraft which ended, before finishing. Then once he was out in 63 he re-trained and finished at a local flight school. He had LOTS of hours even before he solo'd for his Private Pilot ticket. Dad flew for 45+ years. Just about every make and model of light civilian single engine aircraft. We went everywhere. Once while landing his Bellanca Citabria in Northern Idaho, we almost clobbered a whole herd of deer on landing. It was plenty scary. Luckily, they were smart deer. Thanks for the Touch and Go's , , brings back memories.

I got my entire private pilot certificate in a Cub, and than I started flying the Aeronca Champ (L-16A) in 1957. What a difference! No bouncy-wouncy landings like in a Cub and you soloed from the front seat.

That last landing was beautiful man!! Loved how you cut it in tight, slipped, and buttered it. 🤙🏼

What a great video, thank you. Fun little slips into a couple of the airports. Looks like you used about 1/3 of a tank. The cub is such a fabulous plane.

Pretty immersive capture for vicarious experience, so valuable. Great rudder and stick work there. Thanks, safe flights.

That was delightful!! I feel like I just went flying solo in a Piper Cub..... something I would loved to have done in my lifetime and dreamed of since I was a boy, but sadly never will! Such a nice experience on such a lovely evening too!

@@Bananasssssssss Indeed. Been about 60 years since then, but if you learned in a cub or any other tail dragger, you can fly just about anything. But then again, for pure enjoyment nothing beats those classics.

Very nice!! I do the same sort of flying with my Cub down here in Alabama. Too much fun.

Ahhh the classic Piper Cub flooded engine start. So frustrating, but perfect explanation and execution!

Love the calm, cool, and collected way you deal with a flooded engine. I also like how you are careful to point out the consequences of skipping a step in the process. Be safe, always do everything in the same way every time, and the outcome will always be the same if your process is safe.

Thanks. I am relatively new to Cub flying. So far no problems landing and taking off but I hope I'm ready for the day something goes wrong. Multiple Cub landing videos are what I need at this time.

Thanks, Joe! Post-annual Stearman test flight got flown this morning. Tailwheel current again! And my Boeing flies so much more nicely than my employer’s Boeing. Thanks for the Cub content. I’m looking for a nice clipped-wing. Your footage just makes me want one even more.

There must be proper tribute paid to the machine when flying an aircraft older than you are and for me I'm pretty old ... 80 years.

This is the first time I've noticed the tach is backwards. What's the reason behind that?
@Bananasssssssss
@Bananasssssssss 10 месяцев назад
There is a reason but I forget why. Was hard to get used to at first
@brettphillips8650
@brettphillips8650 10 месяцев назад
A65-8 and CXX-8 engines use counter clockwise tach rotation. The CXX-12 engines have more gears in the accessory case for the electric starter and generator options and use a clockwise tach drive.

Man! The second landing had me holding on to my chair like it would somehow help finish that turn before your wheels touched down on the grass strip. Especially with a tree line so close to the runway. Great flying skills and energy management! Reminds me of the flying style of an old friend, Bob Hoover, who was famous for flying a production model Shrike Commander for North American Aviation as an EVP and test pilot. He always said you can make an airplane do incredible things as long as you understand energy management. We can all learn a lesson rom Bob. Here is my favorite video of his flying skills. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PT1kVmqmvHU.html
