my biggest guilt with this movie is that they made the only black lesbian woman in the group, Cynthia Rose, literally sexually assault Stacy throughout the entire movie and played it off as comedy because “they’re both girls”. it wasn’t funny and made me so uncomfortable.

I think Adam Devine's character is made by the fact that he is a regular dude but also still has that confidence and entitlement of any 20 something white dude in charge of a group of other dudes.

Love this movie and love the fact that Lauren's boyfriend's ex is in Pentatonix, literally the biggest a cappella group there is. Great choice to have Lauren in this podcast (and I mean that genuinely).

Actually, Anna Kendrick even says that Pitch Perfect is NOT a musical. She mentions this in an interview with one of the late night show hosts. :D

Kelsey nailed it. The fun of Pitch Perfect is that it satirizes the whole A 'Capella world while also honoring it. There are jokes that haven't aged well but it is still great, campy and fun and anyone who hates it doesn't love joy. Edit: Kelsey you go in the trash for saying that Anna Kendrick can't sing. Rebel Wilson and Ana Camp are okay but Anna Kendrick actually does have the voice of an angel. Watch her in "The Last Five Years" and you will know what I'm talking about.

I was in an all-women's choir in high school and outside of our spring/winter concerts where we sang you're classic holiday/hymnal/seasonal pieces, we also had an acapella invitational every year. Of course, the all-men's choir also participated in the concerts/invitationals. I think within the first week that Pitch Perfect was released, both the women's/men's choirs went to see it in theaters and we were so obsessed with it that we literally attempted our own riff-off outside in the hallway of the theater and we were promptly shushed and asked to leave because we were disturbing other movie-goers. I'm imploding in on myself like a dying star from the secondhand embarrassment of that memory but wow, we felt so fucking cool that night.

I have something to say: the Party in the USA scene is not pointless. It shows that the group is growing to trust each other and learning to listen to each other. It also shows that they like each other and want to have fun together. And for what it's worth, Pitch Perfect is not a real musical because that would imply the characters don't know they're singing. So therefore it doesn't need to follow the rules of a musical like Zach seemed to think. Finally, I will argue that every member of the Bellas except maybe Rebel Wilson is super talented and absolutely deserves to be in this movie. I refuse to hear anything else.

This movie was a talking point in my high school chorus group. And kids were using the Speed Stacks cups to recreate their own Cups song scene for WEEKS.

Can confirm Pitch Perfect is essentially a documentary of collegiate a cappella - a cappella people are a special and glorious group of people and I'm proud to be one of them!

the "guilt" reasons of these films are the exact reasons why i could never get into them. The offensive script was just tooo cringy to bear.Truly, I tried getting past the over-the-top offensive jokes but it was just so awk and uncomfortable and love musicals but...just no.

So I'm pretty sure Rebel Wilson said she was doing one of those diet companies like weight watches then got cast in pitch perfect & she got told to keep the weight on for the role bc of the character. Before Rebel got known worldwide she created tv shows in Australia on government funded tv channels bc no one would pick up her work or scripts so she did it herself and the script/sketches always had characters make fun of her weight or had dark jokes like su*cide. If you want to look it up some of its on RU-vid. Tv show called "Bogan Pride" and sketch show "The Wedge" and she was in few eps of comedy show "Pizza" which turned into Fat Pizza the movie

As someone who won a high school acapella trophy in middle school, I'm offended. It's the ICCA, international competition of college acapella, not IACC 😂

Okay the bass notes with notes does not happen (obviously), but coming from a voice major in college nodes are pretty much the more terrifying thing to any of us, and if you do get them it is a VERY big deal and just as dramatic as it was in the movie

Also musicals are the best way to pump massive amounts of exposition into a quick lyrical montage 😆 I love them!

Pitch perfect always have been my favourite movie.I was happy and so excited to watch this and then I end up making pitch perfect my guilty pleasure. GOD DAMN

So as someone who has lived and breathed theater for like 5 years, as well as movie musicals, I’ll have to disagree with everyone saying this isn’t a musical - it is. It’s a pretty standard jukebox musical. While many, many musicals do use song, music, and dance, what Zach is talking about is a specific use done firstly by Roger’s and Hammerstein, and made famous by a Fosse (I believe) quote & principle. But there are MANY, particularly old movie musicals, where they use the fact that these are performers to get away with singing. A vast majority of the songs done in Pitch Perfect are within the context of “they are performing or practicing BECAUSE THATS THEIR JOB” since a lot of people back then couldn’t wrap their head around spontaneous song and dance, especially since the medium then & now is done predominantly with just talking and underscore. I remember being confused as hell when How I Met Your Mother had a musical Moment cause I wasn’t expecting it and it didn’t fit because that’s not the world. I argue Pitch Perfect does in fact follow the rules of musicals, it’s just a set of rules that’s more uncommon and limits it’s ability to be a musical to having musical moments when the characters are aware they are singing.

Had no idea people didn’t love pitch perfect more than life itself. The only movies I own is all 3 pitch perfects and both mamma mias

Every year at middle school church camp in the mid/late 90s we would play the cup game. Sit in a circle and then you pass the cup on the last flip and keep going with your new cup. We didn't know the words to the song but played that game at EVERY meal. ♥

Definitely classify Pitch Perfect as a guilty pleasure. A lot of the jokes don’t age well but I really love how the female friendship is portrayed over all three movies and I’m here for it. Plus Anna Kendrick is stunning and uber talented. She was made for the stage.

Another classic Anna Kendrick guilty pleasure of mine is CAMP. She's phenomenal and hilarious in that role and it's the first movie where I saw her act. Fabulous, yet cheesy AF. Y'all need to watch it if you haven't.
