You watch these two and all your ills and woes melt away. Tell me that again. As funny now as it was 70 years ago. How often can you say that about ANY comedian past or present?

One of my favorite exchanges/bits from the Laurel & Hardy I've seen. It's sort of in my internal/mental repertoire. I always ROTFL w/in minutes. If I recall correctly, the sketch keeps on being very funny, after this part. Thanks for making the 'If a man had a fish..' part easy to find!

I played this short for my brother and his best friend who was visiting. They took turns as we drove a Winnebago to key West and back to Miami. On the way back they acted out this part. I'll never forget it

Its sad that Stan never got the recognition that he deserved. He was every bit as good as Charlie, perhaps even more when it came to scripts. The duo never had business in mind, didn't have the right team of agents/producers who could carry and keep them on the spotlight. They were raw entertainers. And will live forever!

As clever and inventive as Chaplin was, he's not held in the same affection as Stan and Ollie. I hope they realised how much they were loved.

Profits to go to the fish. Stan had a brilliant British sense of humour, influenced so many comedians including Tommy Cooper and Monty Python.

Maybe this clip could be incorporated successfully into someone's high-powered presentation on business strategy and middlemen and all that. Step forward L&H to give that presentation!

Towed In A Hole was later remade by the Three Stooges as Cuckoo Cavaliers (1940), and Booby Dupes (1945). The gag of catching-their-own-fish-to-eliminate-the-middleman was used in 'Dupes.'

"you know Ollie, I've been thinking" Oh no, don't. These guys killed everyone. Impossible. These guys must be at the roots of the recorded alternative comedy family tree, if there is one.

Yes Stan should also say we won't go to the crowded ponds or Rivers which always crowded and you'll never get a fish we'll go to the unknown unwanted swamps where they dump all sorts of things in the water and you'll get all the fish you want.. and you don't even have to kill them after you get them, cuz most of them will be dead when you reel them in

I use Stan's second explanation to explain anything that sounds complex with the preface. ' so what your saying is-'.i think it's funny no matter what the person on the listening end thinks.

I love the bit right before this when Ollie is singing about fresh fish (to alert people around them), and then Stanley sounds the horn, and one time he sounds the horn but it makes this awful noise that's hilarious. Great moment.

In my family, we tell each other just the punch line and it makes us laugh.... "We Need A Bigger Truck" These two guys were in business selling something (we usually say bales of Hay). They keep buying the hay for One dollar and then re-sell the hay for 50 cents. After several weeks of doing this, they noticed they did not seem to be making much money. So, one guys mentions it to the other guy and they both think about it for a while. Finally, they both decide, "We Need A Bigger Truck"

So much better than that overused "no that's stupid, wait a minute (repeats the same concept)" joke that has been used to death. I can't stand that one anymore.

They did anything first that hadn't been done by Chaplin pretty much, although I bet both of them got plenty of inspiration from theatre shows and other entertainment that predates recorded footage.
