I learned from friends at CBS that when The Nanny was cast and they had their pilot episode, the execs didn't like Lane's character and wanted her written off the show. It was Drescher who fought hard to keep her, and they invented a kind of running hatred between Lane's character and Daniel Davis' butler to keep her story line in the show. It just proves what a generous woman Drescher really is.
I agree they steal the show. But the writers were going for something like Shakespeare's Benedick and Beatrice - a mutual "exchange of wits" - but it always ends up seeming one-sided, Niles just bullying CC. Her line aren't as clever and he can be genuinely cruel. Hard to believe she ended up so happy sleeping with a guy who called her ugly all those years. Although, I will say, there was always a sexual charge behind the insults, and you CAN kind of tell Niles is "protesting too much."
Especially in later episodes - there would be a Niles/CC storyline that was supposed to be a sub-plot, but it jumped out at you more than the Fran-Max story, if that made any sense.
@@scottlang7271 I think I read that Lauren grew up in Oklahoma and then went to Texas. So it's pretty impressive that she portrayed someone born and bred to New York high society. (No hint of a Southern or Texas access.)
@@jessicalillianweinberg4401 She grew up in Arlington TX, Lamar High still has a good drama dept. She went to UT Arlington. All right in the middle of Fort Worth/Dallas.
I commented a year ago saying that we never crossed paths because I was an education major and she a theater professor. Well since then I have switched my major to theater, started acting, and as a senior I am in her class. She is absolutely fantastic and I am so honored to be taught by her!
Met Ms. Lane just the other day in a theatre class. She was so lovely and just as funny in person as on the show. So down to earth. Plus she took a selfie with me so!
+Cynthia Finnegan Me too! She was a lovely woman in "The nanny "and she was as fine as Fran in a way.Fran sometimes irritated me,it was her role but i think that C.C or lauren Lane was more classy and bright and she is a very good actress. She made it and without her the Nanny wouldn't have been so funny.
And I thought their personalities worked together, and there was more to them than "the physical" whereas sometimes for Fran and Max, it seemed like it was all about being physically attracted. They were so different.
Without wanting to mix em up ... but, Lauren is giving some SERIOUS Meryl Steep vibes ... Love it. She is on the same level, super classy, smart and sassy.
Why is everyone complaining about Lauren Lane's looks weight. She is a professor now and does not need to look glamorous. As to weight, many Women and men gain weight after forty.
Would Lauren Lane not make the best Ursula ( Little Mermaid ) when she sings her voice is so low and perfect and besides the whole evil vibe she could 100% pull off!!!! Am i right?!?! 💙💙💙
I had an "ah-ha!" moment when she said that her daughter was 4 when the show ended. In season 2 C.C. had gained a lot of weight on the show but it was just to cover for her baby bump in real life. How cute!
Nia There was a scene in one of the episodes where she was obviously pregnant and the line by Lauren Lane was "don't you just hate all those tv shows where they tried everything to cover up pregnancy" and making a commentary how they used to hide the women behind things.
It is interesting that the show continued for a year after Fran and Max got married, but it was the finale after Niles and CC got married. I think Niles and CC should have gotten together first and I wish Fran and Max had been inspired by them. As famous as Niles and CC are for a "love-hate" relationship, Fran and Max did a LOT of clashing, and didn't seem to work together very well. It seemed to be "physical" with them, whereas Niles and CC seem to admire things about each other beyond looks (although they cover up that they feel that way.) And I prefer the couple where the woman is rich and good with money and business and the guy does housework.
I can't think of anyone so poised, classy and good looking as Lauren to play CC Babcock. Fran does have an eye for casting. Throughout the show both her and Fran have been fashion references in both areas, uptown classy and downtown skanky. Hats off to such great actresses.
Oh no, you don't mess with her. She's an angel and cares about all of her students on an extremely personal basis, but you learn quickly that you need to be on top of EVERYTHING in her classes. It also helps that the Theatre Department at TXST is really hardcore, everyone there is working their butts off to succeed in the business.
@@fatiniliqahazarulariffin2127 It was interesting how, in some ways, she wasn't a great contrast with Fran. She wasn't all uptight, prude, or "proper" - she talked about wanting sex and tried to show off her sex appeal to Max and Niles. And, while she was often laughed at because her attraction to Max would always go un-reciprocated, she was actually more independent than Fran, in some ways, at least by season 4. She seemed to manage money and business well, and to be using that to show why she was better than Fran. She seemed to have more "to her" than the goal of getting married.
She’s a very smart lady. I love the way she speaks of young people and how nurturing she is towards them. It’s important not to ever discourage young students but encourage them. Your opinion could possibly damage a student. Always tell them the truth but never, ever discourage them.
I've been attending Texas State for the past 3 years and am about to graduate. I can't believe I didn't know that she's a professor here! That's so awesome!
to be honest, lauren's face didn't age at all, but i think that the hairdo makes her look older, if she had the same hair as she had on the nanny she would look exactly the same. by the way she is so different in reality;)
I wonder why none of the actors from The Nanny really went on to have big careers, besides Fran Drescher. That show is so hysterical, so perfectly acted by the entire ensemble.
I knew Lauren's Austin sister (they were actually raised in Oklahoma), and was away when she talked about Lauren. Then Lauren came to lunch with a group of us, and I dead-ass told Kim, "your sister looks just like the actress who played Cece Babcock in this show called The Nanny."
I really like Lauren Lane :) she is the whole package deal!, Smart, Funny, beautiful and a nice voice and a great laugh... Lucky Texans... I envy you :)
I like her better than Fran, just for being a smart businesswoman. Fran seemed very ditzy and incompetent a lot of the time - sit-coms often have a bumbling dad whom the mom "bails out" - often without him realizing it - but Max really did have to bail Fran out of trouble a lot of the time, especially when it came to money, and Fran even tried dishonest things with money. CC seemed to be good at business and producing - and even though we're always told she's mean, she usually got investors and celebrities interested in working with her company - and often it was Fran who drove them away. She also wasn't THAT big a contrast with Fran, in some ways...she put Fran down for how Fran dressed, but she (CC) wasn't a total prude or image-obsessed society lady...she tried to show off to Max and Niles how sexy she was. And by season 4 or so, Fran seemed needier than CC, especially with Max. I do think they in some ways mishandled her relationship with Niles...they did hint early on the the attraction, so it wasn't as out of the blue as some people think, but some parts of the progression of it were...weird.
Loved this clip of these 2 talented, beautiful actresses! Love their unique & crazy relationship on The Nanny, as well as the fabulous, hilarious, and brilliant one that Lauren/C.C. had with Niles/Daniel Davis! 🎭 💕 So awesome to learn Lauren Lane is also a tenured Drama Professor at Tx State University in San Marcos, near my beloved former city of Austin, TX! So fortunate are her Drama students, to have such a talented, enlightened, and empathetic teacher! LOVE you Lauren!❤️👠👠
Knowing the personal HORROR Fran Drescher has had to live thru from her past... (altho I MOST STRENUOUSLY... PASSIONATELY & VEHEMENTLY DISAGREE with her politics)... I think she's a doll & have only the utmost respect for her strength, her tenacity, her intelligence & her SHEER WILL. She is a kind, generous, big- hearted lady. And as beautiful as she has ALWAYS been on the outside... she's even MORE beautiful on the inside & wants only to GIVE more to the world than she ever has, or ever will, take. God bless you Francine.💕
I like the fact that I don't know her politics. She is someone you can love no matter what her politics are. Politics shouldn't define our identities. It's our character and degree of love for our fellow man that are more important than politics. Fran has plenty of these! I'm guessing that my politics might be different from her but I don't give a damn. I love Fran for her CHUTZPAH!
jessie james The title "professor" doesn't mean anything in the US, only that you are teaching adults. It's not an earned academic title (following the PhD) as in Europe.
