I had no idea this was coming, and yet here it is, and I'm playing it, and it feels like some sort of weird dream but in a good way. Thank you to everyone who turned out to watch this, including all the friends I've lost touch with since the original Undertale playthrough! So much has happened; I hope you'll forgive me for catching everyone up and talking a bit more about what the game means to me, but it's nearly impossible for me to disentangle my own emotions and my life from my Undertale experience.
This game is absolutely adorable. I have faith that Toby Fox will tug on my heartstrings, but in the meantime, I am having a good time with it, and it's beautiful and unsettling in a lot of quiet ways underneath the great humor.

2:42:56 Toby Fox worked on Homestuck so yes, it's almost certainly a reference. Hoo boy, here goes... As the chat briefly mentioned, in Homestuck there's a race of aliens with a rather bizarre reproductive process. Firstly because they actually have _two_ types of reproductive relationships, both romantic love _and_ romantic hate. (Symbolised as ❤️ and ♠️ respectively.) Secondly because they're a bit like like bees or ants, where couples must collect their "genetic material" in buckets and donate it to a hive queen who combines it, then lays all the eggs. Thus buckets are seen as extremely risqué objects in their culture. So by featuring a bucket with a spade on it, let alone in the middle of a "frienemy" scene, Toby's making a faux dirty reference for any Homestuck fans who might be playing. That's... that's basically the crux of that joke. :/

And basically the chat is imitating how the aliens react whenever they see humans interact with buckets, being inexplicably disgusted by what they assume is something extremely sexual while to us it looks completely normal. So in a sense, their reaction makes just as much sense to you as it did to the heroes in Homestuck.

Considering the discussion of what has changed since the first Undertale streams.... I've come out as trans since Undertale came out, moved from my old university where I was failing to one where I'm succeeding, redirected my efforts toward game programming, and I'm generally in a better place. I'm glad everything is working out for you, too!

LAAUUURENNN I literally haven’t been keeping up with you since your UT streams. But when I heard about the new game, I was like: “I HAVE to see Lauren the Flute play this!” I wasn’t sure you had, but at the same time, I was 100% sure that you would! The UT playthrough was is a stark memory for me (as I watched you right when I went back to college), and I love what you said in your preamble. You’ve gone and thrived, and that makes me so happy (maybe even more than watching this playthrough, but also maybe not. Win-win though!).

This really looks like a Paper Mario game(which makes me happy since I love that game). I got spoiled on Undertale so I never actually played it. But I am going to try to get this game blindly if the full game does come out.

Hint: You can pacify enemies when the game says they're sleepy and you can spare them if they have a star next to their name (normally, their names are yellow when they can be spared but when they're sleepy, it's a gradient from blue to yellow).

I know you never did an evil run in Undertale (no blame, I didn't want to either) but do you at least know what happens if you do? Because if not, you might want to read up on it, 'cause there's additional information about certain characters which can only be obtained that way, and it REALLY looks like it's going to be relevant.

Yes indeed! It's been a few shades of pink/red/purple this year and I may branch out beyond that at some point, but it's been fun! I am excited about UT again myself and I hope there will be more chapters to play through before too much longer...

FF Tactics - the original PS1 one at least - is I think my absolute favorite game ever, so I hope you do try it and enjoy it again! Just uh, if it ever gives you the opportunity to save between battles, ALWAYS save on a different slot. I do recommend it over the War of the Lions version, which has a different translation.

I've always talked a lot about my thoughts and feelings in games! Nothing different here. I didn't fall in love with the music in Deltarune as much as I did Undertale or some of the other games I've played more recently, though it's still good - so the things I was commenting on were things that meant more to me than the music in this case!

Honestly? I haven't finished it, but from what I've seen, it's just a lazy rehash. Oooh, quirky but likeable (debatably likeable) characters. Oooh, pacifism encouraged in combat. Ooh, puzzles. Ooh, themes of friendship and teamwork. Even the lead character is just a stretched-out palette swap. The person who once put a delightful unconventional spin on all the clichés has now become a hollow cliché himself. I know originality is tough, but...come on. It's not THAT tough.

I feel like it's not a rehash at all; the characters seem really different to me. If anything, it's uncomfortable how much it directly skewers your expectations if you want it to be just like Undertale. It's asking different questions and exploring different conflicts, and the parallels between the two games really just seem to highlight (for me) just how much Deltarune *isn't* Undertale...

@Lain Yup. I've played it all the way through and my observations ring louder than when I started. This is 100% a lazy rehash. "Recycled" is probably the best compliment I could give it (but I'm sure even that will upset his legions of sycophants). Rather than give everyone more of the same (which is precisely what this is), Fox could have sprang something out of left field that had absolutely nothing to do with Undertale, which would be way easier than it sounds, but no. A puzzle game. A racing game. A choose-your-own-adventure. A sim. A mix of any of the above. Nope. Undertale-style RPG. Worst game of 2018.

Ok, after reading the edgy comment (this was litteraly chapter 1/7 (maybe more) this is like saying that undertale is bad after stopping before Toriel fight) I want to know what you think about chapter 2
