This was heavy. I just want to thank you for sharing your personal experience of the game with us, it has been over half a decade since I last experienced this game and I had forgotten basically everything, so I have loved to fall in love with it anew through your lens and commentary. And I know you don’t usually do it but the voices you have done for this play-through have been so fitting and brimming with cuteness, you really breathed life into the characters and it definitely increased my enjoyment. I hope you consider to continue doing voices in the future. (Maybe even for Deltarune?!?) And though I didn’t remember much, (apart from the cozy Radiator robot with the sleeping cats.) I still recognized and recalled the anguish of that one choice. I made the same choice as you in the end. I have NEVER seen anything past that choice though. So now I am swathed by the possibilities of what may happen next. And I’m glad I get to see it here with you. If I am able I will try to catch the beginning of the next stream to say hi, but it is during the middle of the night for me so it’ll only be for a bit. 💤 Anyway thanks again for all that you do, keep on keeping on!

This was a really engaging stream! I found your thoughts about how this game fits in with different games like Undertale or Spec Ops: The Line and the different natures of their endings really interesting, not to mention the comparisons to The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. Also, I'm definitely with you on not finding this to be a game I'd describe as "charming". I was really surprised when the atmosphere and setup for the game wound up reminding me so strongly of Dark Souls in the first session, and the more it's gone on the more it's built that emotionally heavy feeling you mentioned. For me, that's a welcome revelation, but it's not what I was expecting.
Yeah, I think you're right, there's a strong parallel between this game and Dark Souls, thematically - a world that is literally crumbling, a looping cycle meant to keep it going that is not enough to stop its slide into death, and an effort to break that cycle (successfully or unsuccessfully). It's just that OneShot very much seems like it *wouldn't* be compared to Dark Souls, you know? Just look at how cute and innocent Niko is, and how cute and innocent some of the other characters are! I think I would have probably had an easier time of things if I'd let go of my expectations and embraced what the game actually is (when have I ever been disappointed to find something is more dramatic and/or tragic?) - but I was so convinced I must be doing something wrong!
