Lady-t-Michelle, this was so well written to acknowledge Mr. Mayfield's genius, and the talent of these other fine artists! Oh, you forgo to mention Aretha Franklin, and it was chosen for the closing scene in "Jumping the Broom"..
First time I’m hearing this I love it and Curtis Mayfield’s version ! Nai Palm’s version is so beautiful too 🤩Going to listen to Gladys Knight, and Angie Stones version next !
GOOD LAWD!!!!!! TALK ABOUT A JAW-DROPPING REMAKE!!!!!! Curtis is probably somewhere in Heaven smiling from ear to ear. That Lauryn Hill has always been an amazing vocalist.
When a poetess sings a poet's song it sounds like this. Thank you Lauryn for singing, and Curtis for writing! My second favorite version right behind Gladys, and that is saying a lot!
These are the makings of you.!!!!. Of course, the original creator of their crafts will always be rejuvenate to a New realm. Thanks Lauren Hill. You always hold a high respect for your musical gift. Queen Lauren Hill. Peace.
I played this version at my 2-day-old, granddaughters' "Homegoing" services! It was between this & Slyeena Johnson's (also beautiful) version! This is the 1st time I have listened to this song 🎵 since 2018! Today is her sister's 1st birthday 🎂! I'm just reminiscing on her sweet spirit & celebrating the gift of the abundance of life (I have twin granddaughters due in January & another grandbaby (I think/ feel it's a boy) due in April! God is still faithful to a thousand generations... Deuteronomy 7:9 ❤️🙏🏽🦁❤️ 👶🏽👏🏽!!!
My Lady Feel What Your Say'n and I'm a Grow Man!!! This is Song is Song So Beautiful, The Live Music. My Lady I Was at The Live. An I just Could Help The Tears From Falling...
this version.....feels like it wraps around you like fine silk.....feels like melted butter on Sunday morning biscuits.....feels like a summer breeze down a country road.....feels like....
Just seeing this Bruh. Luv your take! this is Lauren Greatest renditon of a Legendary Classic! RIP Sistah Diannah Caroll! The true definition of a queen in this movie.
Ms Lauryn did a fine job with this classic. Her voice, with its nuances, is perfect for this cover. She's a natural fit! Mr. Curtis's rendition is still my fav. though!
I don't care who you think you are, listening to Curtis or Lauren sing this record, will definitely make you cry. I had a moment while listening to this and watching my son. I couldn't hold back
And she's doing this without the help of studio-level acoustics and mastering. Open-air mic and she still pushes her range to her limits. Powerful. -- _the Boogie of the eL_ -- nuf said
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS VERSION OF CURTIS MAYFIELD's CLASSIC - "The Makings of You" -- One of my older brother (he has now passed -- R,I.P "Big Bro") would bring home all the latest and greatest music when he was in college at Virginia State in Petersburg, VA. Th
So beautiful. The lyricism, tendness and vulnerability of Lauren's voice is amazing . It adds beauty to anything she sings. Very seldom are the remakes as beautiful as the original versions, but her version is as beautiful as Curtis's original version..
I was truly fascinated by Gladys Knight and the Pips version of this song. I believe the CD will be lying somewhere in my shelf....the good and glorious 70's
I have been a massive fan of Curtis Mayfield for over 30 years and this is probably my favorite of all of his songs. never knew this version existed. I am not a fan of covers or remakes but she did this beautifully.
great taste Lauryn Hill... beautiful remake of this song, by the late, great, Curtis Mayfield and also sung by Gladys Knight and the Pips. not everybody can sing this song, like its suppose to, but you and Gladys, got it!
One of the greatest songs ever written and there are many. A woman who sings this is the type of woman I’d love to meet. Please forgive me I hadn’t realised how brilliant she is.
For my generation who searches for lyrics. Lyrics that quality I don't see too much these days. So, here you go: Add a little sugar, honeysuckle And a great big expression of happiness Boy, you couldn't miss With a dozen roses Such will astound you The joy of children laughing around you These are the makings of you It is true, the makings of you The righteous way to go Little one would know Or believe if I told them so You're second to none The love of all mankind Should reflect some sign of these words I've tried to recite They're close but not quite Almost impossible to do Reciting the makings of you
I was there at the Curtis Memorial in LA in 2000, 20 meters away from Lauryn as she sang this song. My favorite Curtis song. She was so cool and so fragile, crying behind her sunglasses. I will never forget this day. Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder were also fantastic. As mr Wonder shouted this day: CURTIS WILL LIVE FOREVER!
Props to Sister Lauren for providing this fitting Tribute. Brother Mayfield like so many Icons are rarely appreciated while here in our midst. He was a Lyrical Genius who contributed to the Music Industry in a profound way. His body of work was voluminous and relevant even in our Common Era. I miss his Consciousness and his gentle delivery. I'm 61yrs old and my childhood and teen years were filled with his Music via my father's tastes.. Miss Hill.....I salute you and thank you for preserving a Classic which is worthy of more airtime.
This Joy Of One Wonderful Song. Brings Such Lovely Memory's Of My Mother. Growing Up as a Kid at 5 or 6 I Be Leave. My Lovely Mother Just Running House at night. Cooking and Cleaning. With Me and Sister and Also All My adorable Cousins. Just Enjoying The Whole Night With Mouth Watering Food Fresh From The Hot Oven. Stove Top Food Also Smelling So Tasteful That You Have Too Ask, "Is It Ready, Is It Ready MAMA." I Can Remember at That age Just Feeling So Overwhelm With LOVE and as My Family All Share The Same Happiness. As We All Celebrate One Family Dinner I Couldn't Forget This Life Time Or The Next. But That Entire Night I Could Not Take My Mother Eyes Off Her. As I Just Kept On Looking at My Mother With Complete Stock Of Tons Of The Highest Amazement. As I Say Too Myself My Mother is ONE Wonderful Woman. An I'm So Damn Greatful She is My MAMA. So When I hear This POWERFUL SONG. It Comes With a Meaning That Hits My Heart and I Know What Woman Comes Too My Mine. An I Have Express My Feelings Too My Mother about This Song. "I LOVE YOU MAMA"
Not all song can b remade. She did well. Carries the same emotional intensity. I couldn't find the one great love of my life till 35 years later and late. I shed a tear when I think of her and hear this song as I remember my one great love.
Personally I think this is the best version of the song. It moved me in so many ways and made think of loved ones who have passed. A beautiful song sang beautifully.
Somewhere there should be for all the world to seeA statue of a fool made of stoneThe image of a man who let love slip through his handsAnd then just let him stand there all aloneAnd there on his face a gold tear should be placedTo honor the million tears he's criedAnd the hurt in his eyes would show so everyone would knowConcealed is a broken heart insideSo build a statue and oh build it highSo that all can seeThen inscribe the world's greatest foolAnd name it after me
+GolGaooo Uhm... it's not even her song. And as a huge Aretha fan, I think Syleena Johnson's, Curtis', Gladys', and Lauryn's stand before hers. She is very known for taking covers and expanding on them, but with this song, it seemed self indulgent. #justmytwocents
