Lavar Ball responded to criticism he had received from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who claimed Ball had a negative effect on the sport of basketball. Ball countered by suggesting Abdul-Jabbar pay closer attention to his own family. Furthermore, he dismissed accusations from Nancy Armour of USA Today, who labeled him the "worst sports parent ever." Ball retorted he cares for his kids and is proud that his son, LaMelo, was drafted number three by the Charlotte Hornets. Additionally, Ball discussed his admiration for sports figure Deion Sanders, asserting they share a similar mindset as fathers coaching their children. Ball appreciated Sanders for not making it about "a black or white college" but simply about college in general and trying to do what's best for his family. He argued in favor of supporting colleges rather than focusing on racial ratios.

I can relate… not on this man’s level but I’ve always been hands on with my kids’ athletic development. I filmed all their basketball games, track meets etc.. I was hard on them because I saw the talent and I knew that they both had a chance to compete in college athletics. Other parents would look at me crazy and talk behind my back about how I was too involved. My son is D1 track and field sprinter and my daughter plays collegiate basketball… now those parents that doubted and criticized my involvement call me asking questions about how we achieved the recruiting interest and how I trained my kids…😂😂😂😂😂

A lot of discussions I have with my kids deal with my experiences in life compared to what they are experiencing now. I’m 56 years old so I’ve done a lot of living.. athletically I was a athlete so I can relate to their abilities and I can train based on my experience and what I learned through other trainers.
