Lavenham in Suffolk is said to be the best-preserved medieval village in England. It is one of the jewels of Esat Anglia. Suffolk sheep produced the wool to form the cloth, Lavenham Blue, on which the prosperity of the village was founded. At the beginning of the 16th century, Lavenham was judged to be the 14th richest town in England paying more taxes to the Crown than either Lincoln or York.
The "wool" church, one of the largest parish churches in England, the Guildhall in the Market place together with the numerous half-timbered houses are unique examples of their kind.
The Swan Hotel built before 1425 houses the Airmen's Bar which has become a place of pilgrimage for returned American servicemen and their failies sinc e the end of the Second World War. It is a shrine to those who gave their lives for our freedom. The video ends with a story of a hero's sacrifice in the skies of the Second Wor;d War - at Christmas.
Lavenham's fame has continued into the 20th century with two properties, the De Vere house and the Guildhall, featuring in the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
