I miss Laverne & Shirley, I kept watching them when I was an elementary to junior high student. Their stories also inspiring me to earn money as great worker like them ;)
sending a heartfelt tribute to a most talented comedy writer, director and overall mench that ever lived. Missing you already Gary Marshall, one of the last of the good guys! May he RIP.
No. Love Boat theme sounded like a lounge act. This one, The Jeffersons, One Day At a Time, Cheers and Mash had great melodies. So did Facts of Life which was written by Alan Thicke.
I remember vaguely my mom watching this show when I was growing up, ignored it, recently rediscovered it on COZI and MEtv and it's GREAT!! In fact, most of those old-school shows are AMAZING compared to the utter CRAP on tv nowadays. I'm hooked!!
Wow they had forklifts and warehousing back in the olden days? I'm 41 and this song was burned in my head for last 35 years and finally get to hear it again. My older brother watch this show as a kid.
The opening of Laverne and Shirley reminds me of my first job in a processing plant.. right down to the forklift coming through the swinging doors! We dressed about the same too. This was one of my favorite shows too! Thanks! :)
long long time ago ... so many memories of back then small town slept with all doors and window's open all night not even one lock on the door... we played outside all night always sleeping out all night no worries...miss those days ... Now every door in the house 2 or 3 locks on them we have alarm systems so when we are out no one will go in.we sleep with guns in drawers by our bed or under our pillows. and a child is not even safe in his own yard or neighborhood..... So where did those good ole HAPPY FREE OF FEAR DAYS GO???????????
Bonnie Draper dont forget a person could work a simple 8 hour day/ 40 per week, and had enough to live off of and still enjoy life. Meanwhile, no cameras were over your shoulder at every turn. Life is terrible in this country now...terrible.
Bonnie Draper The dirty lie is that they're still here, people were just sold decades of fear by politicians and oligarchs to make them buy products they don't need and give up freedoms they should have kept in order to stay safe from phantoms and boogeymen. If you send your children out to play now police will round them up and you'll get a visit from child protective services. It's sad that people are willing to give up their sanity for protection they don't need. 9/11 changed everything, and not in a good way.
I became aware of this show in 1977 when I was 5 years old. Reason is because I was watching the Fonz in Happy Days and this was a spin off from the show as Fonz was dating Laverne.
The creator of this show, Garry Marshall just passed away...this was just one of his great creations! RIP in Garry... Sorry to hear of your lost Penny.
This show we had on TV in Europe when I was young. Now, I can relive all memories digitally enhanced. Thank you very much for posting this catchy song!
I blame my older sister for making me remember this theme song. But i loved it though. Brings back childhood memories after they showed those daytime cartoons
shlimazel Someone with constant bad luck. When the shlemiel spills his soup, he probably spills it on the shlimazel. Fans of the TV sitcom “Laverne and Shirley” remember these two words from the Yiddish-American hopscotch chant that opened each show.
Been trying to figure out those first few words my whole life. Actually what I guessed was pretty much what they do say. Now if only I can get the song out of my head.
Suzanne Sperry , who is not Jewish but grew up among Jewish friends, tells me today re this rhyming rhyme at the beginning of the show, ''Dear Danny My childhood recollections go back to the early 1930s, so I expect it really predates Laverne & Shirley! -- Suzanne''
my friends at wikipedia and company tell me Don Harrison my wise editor was right re quote from wiki: ''At the start of each episode, Laverne and Shirley skip down the street, arm in arm, reciting a Yiddish-American hopscotch chant: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated,"
No wonder "Shotz" beer went bankrupt!!...quality control went down the tubes with these daydreaming bottle cappers!..(and yes..I know there is no real Shotz beer) :)
Michelle I was thinking same thing. 2 broke girls is no doubt influenced and is probably a 2010's updated version of this tv sitcom classic. Not the biggest fan of L&S but it still was better than 98% of scrpited shows now on tv.
Michelle Evans L&S was good considering the era. Can't take the comedic gold that came from many shows in the 70's I mean you had to be big to get a Spin off from Happy Days
