What do you think about attorneys doing "free" initial consultations with prospective clients?
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
I'm not quite sure I understand the question. Almost universally lawyers will first meet with potential clients to understand what type of help they're seeking before an attorney can determine if they're in a position to help them. Let me know if that answers your question?
@drivethrutours1916
@drivethrutours1916 3 года назад
@@AngelaVorpahl What do you think about attorneys who only do "paid" initial consultations with prospective clients then?
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
@@drivethrutours1916 I honestly have no opinion either way because I don't have a lot of experience in the potential client consultation space. The only client intakes I ever helped with were for nonprofit organizations, and those legal services were free or low-cost so it was just a completely different business environment.

Hey incredible information, thank you so much for this interview, learnt so much from it. I'm an international student and so the gpa grading system is quiet different,so what do they do for international students since their undergraduate colleges are different and have different systems?
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
Great question and I actually have no idea! I woul definitely reach out to Anna to get insight into that. My assumption is that if you're from a country that the law school has had international law students before that the law school itself would have a way to "equate" the grades to the U.S. GPA system but I would definitely talk to the guru on that :)

I am an older pre-0L trying to learn about the admissions process. If I wanted to begin fall 2022, am I already too late to start the process? Am I supposed to have my applications in by Oct/Nov 2021? If so, I better go take my LSAT!!
@sbdxaric
@sbdxaric 3 года назад
No, you’re in time! But I really really recommend applying before December. Better odds + more money!
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
Hi Calvin! No and yes! Anna recommends that you apply by early admission if possible (i.e. Nov/Dec the year before you're looking to start law school). The recommended length of time to go hard studying for the LSAT is 5 months, so if you start studying now you can take your first LSAT in October!

Hi Angela What are the job opportunities for people who are planning to do an LL.M in U.S.A after a work experience of a couple of years at one of their home country's law firm. Have heard that the job opportunities are not that great, especially in law firms.

Hi Angela, would you mind if I ask your LSAT and GPA? You're the Valedictorian of a good school in the US and it's weird that the top-14 schools don't pick you up.
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
Hi Uyen! The first time I took the LSAT I got a 160 and the second time I took it I got a 165. I had a uGPA of 4.0. I applied to SMU, Baylor, UT, and Notre Dame. I received scholarship money from SMU, Baylor, and Notre Dame and was waitlisted to UT. When I got the news that I had received a full scholarship to SMU, I withdrew my spot on the waitlist at UT and accepted my admission to SMU. I honestly had zero idea about law school rankings or admission strategy, and defaulted to the main tenant of how our parents raised us (which was the idea that you can get a good education anywhere and saving money is what's most important) so the full scholarship made up my mind! Knowing what I know now, I'd probably make the same decision, but since UT was my number one choice I would have liked to see if I eventually made it in. Are you heading into law school this cycle? :)
@uyenla3137
@uyenla3137 3 года назад
@@AngelaVorpahl That full scholarship means you can get into a higher ranked school. I understand your decision as I made the same for my bachelor's degree. I had a decent undergrad journey & don't regret it. Do you think that just 2-3 points more on the LSAT could significantly help us get in a much higher ranked school with higher median LSAT? Law school admission seems a rat race to me.
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
@@uyenla3137 Your LSAT score is definitely a powerful metric that you have in your favor because your higher LSAT score helps the law school in their ranking, so it's a big benefit to them (which in turn means it's a big benefit to you). A few more points on your LSAT score can definitely push you from waitlist to admit (or even scholarship offering), especially if you're talking high-160's or 170's. The only thing to be aware of when you look at the law schools' current median LSAT numbers is that the LSAT scores for this cycle are likely not yet included and they were significantly higher than any previous cycle. It's not yet clear what that's going to mean for the Fall 2022 cycle numbers, but usually even LSAC waits to incorporate the current numbers 1-2 years later, so just be aware that the "real" median numbers for the entering class may be much higher this year.

@@AngelaVorpahl Do you know what the high LSAT of Harvard for this year is? Isn't it 175 anymore? 😓
@AngelaVorpahl
@AngelaVorpahl 3 года назад
@@uyenla3137 Hi Uyen, I'm not sure what the median LSAT score for Harvard is this year. I don't think any law school has reported their numbers yet because admissions haven't closed. But the strategy remains the same...get as high as you can :)

Hi Robert! I loved being a practicing attorney, it was such an amazing and challenging and exciting experience. When questions started coming up for me about what else I might be able to do with my law degree, it was a total shock when I realized how much I loved sharing information about the legal industry, and answering students' questions about how to do well in law school and develop an exciting and fulfilling life as a lawyer. But I felt such a strong connection to that work and helping that group of people build the lives and careers they wanted that I decided to go for it and became a coach. Becoming a lawyer was a fantastic experience, becoming a coach has been a fantastic experience, and I have no clue what the future holds but I'm excited to find out :)
