From Executive Producers Taylor Sheridan and David Oyelowo comes the untold story of the most legendary lawman in the Old West: Bass Reeves. Lawmen: Bass Reeves, follows the journey of Reeves (Oyelowo) and his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.

As an African American, this is the type of diversity I want to see in media. We don't need to be placed in places we never were like Viking armies or the Russian court when we already have a TON of great, REAL black men and women in history that have done great things. Not sure why Hollywood thought we'd think otherwise. They were just doing us a disservice.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and I was honestly suprised I would, when I first heard of Lawman Bass Reeves I told myself, no more Yellowstone spin-offs, but I was surprised how good it was considering the only actors I new were Dennis Quaid and Donnald Sutherland. The series was well shot, acted, presented, palpable and riveting. I didn't expect the twist at the end. It was great to see where Bass started and where he ended up. I hope it's all true❤

Because he dose not skimp on anything, dose not pander to fashionable Ideological sensibilities and not afraid to slaughter scared cows and handle mature subjects in fair, nuanced mater. He is also great storyteller, though his work can be melodramatic and be soap operatic at times, but he knows to do melodrama well. Cant help but admire him, poor kid from rural Texas becomes very successful in such a short amount. A true American success story.

@@erics1718 When it comes to issues of identity in his stories, such as Native Americans, he handles it with finesse and complexity. Rainwater is an excellent example of that. He's trying to right a wrong that was done against his people, but also you can tell there are personal resentments motivating it from his childhood. He wants what's best for his people, but he often uses corrupt and even a immoral means to achieve them. And though he strives to advance his people's interest, but his own ambitions are never far from the surface. Other words he treats native Americans as people, not helpless victims with no agency that identitarians treat them as. He treats them humans and all that implies. I always liked his tendency to imbue his characters with unlikable if not disturbing aspects to them, making us like them and hate them at the same time.

I truly hope so. I was born in the 70's and grew through the 80's, but my dad loves Westerns and I grew up watching tons of those (my dad still watches Westerns on his beloved DVDs). I LOVE Westerns so I hope they make a full comeback, especially as the superhero genre looks go be running out of steam. I love superheroes too (I grew up reading lots of comics), but in my opinion there's been an oversaturation of them in recent years. Time to give Westerns another round.

First of all, kudos to Art T. Burton for doing the research on the great Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves! I just purchased his book "Black Gun, Silver Star." I have watched just about every "behind the scenes" video for this Paramount Pictures goldmine! I love the way that everyone from David Oyelowo, the writers, the director, the cast, the crew, the extras are all single-mindedly focused on the task of making this a masterpiece! And, they have! Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves was great, phenomenal, incredible, preeminent in every way! He deserves to have his story told! I am extremely happy that it has come into fruition! Love the line in this trailer, "Your wicked ways are over!" God is awesome!

It sounds like this is based on a mans real life. He deserves credit for being not only a man of honor during that time period but for being a black man with all odds stacked against him and honorable. Sounds like this man deserves a spot up top with all the white western legends we all know. I can't wait to watch and learn about this guy and im just some white guy who doesn't really watch Westerns but am certainly interested.

Am sooooo anticipating this series..love me some Westerns n as a child in Jamaica, read up on the time period in American hustory, that influenced all the TV shows n Movies …Bass Reeves was my favourite , as his life experiences were used to pattern the comic book charscter , The Lone Ranger’…have watched documentaries about him n am looking forward to see David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo’s portrayal of him….must say that for a Britisher, he did a very good job in depicting another Icon, namely MLK Jnr in the movie , Selma

Just finished the series it was great I’m so happy they made a decent historical piece about a true BAMF. Hollywood needs to pay attention instead of just replacing white parts with POC and making pandering garbage. I hope the make a movie about Yasuke the black samurai or an epic of Shaka Zulu but Hollywood is 90 percent woke garbage these days.

Can’t wait! I’ve been wanting a series on Bass for a long time. The man captured his own his, and turned him into the law. It had a happy ending because his son ended up turning his life around. But either way, Bass was the real deal with a life that was larger than the big screen

@@amariskates Cleaopatra was a real person and they race swapped her. What my point is, many characters today were race swapped from original characters. Ariel, Snow White, Velma, Peter Pan, Robyn hood etc.
