I didn't know Freddie, "Boom Boom" Washington had an album out. It sounds much better than the John Travolta album. Thanks for posting, and sharing.

Actually the album was advertised on tv in 1978-- but it didn't get as much commercial play as John Travolta's LP, which was messed up. I liked Larry's singing. And as far as I can determine there was absolutely no airplay. It was not played on any of the.local soul stations. I think it could have done well on the charts.

His album was released around the same time his label was sold to MCA and eventually folded. ABC Records was also the home to Steely Dan. If you remember, they released "Aja" a year earlier and this merger between labels was a huge reason why there was a three year wait for 1980's "Gaucho".

Cochise, Freddie Boom Boom Washington, Joe Jackson can sing! I heard a snippet of his voice from Cooley High and The Jacksons American Dream, but I never knew Larry had an album. This is rare, a gem. Thanks for sharing Mr. Jacobs talent.

I am honestly and truthfully blown away I only discovered Lamont Dozier a little over 2 years ago with fish ain't bitin' and learned of his passing close to a month ago at 81 years old but Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs has been a crush from not only Cooley High but Good Times and Claudine. I am saving this into my music section and I might look for the CD.

Ahh, the 70s! So much talent all around on full display! With ultimately, nowhere to go-except back to pseudochurch! When I think of the people of that era, the works they were generating like “Raisin, Bubblin’ Brown Sugar, Sophisticated Ladies, The Wiz, Roots,” et al. in an industry that, somehow, never could find vehicles & outlets for people who should have had them… … & the executive deciders who COULD have easily (& profitably) produced constructive platforms THEN, no other way to view them but as malignant, opportunistic Narcs in Entertainment (& all other areas of activity). ♥️💖🖤 Thank You, Reelblack!! (& big Thanks to Lawrence Hilton Jacobs, III, too!🖤💘)

I was teasing the chat because I never realized that LHJ had put an album out, so it is very far be it for me, to suggest the brother stay in his lane, and would be very remissed, to neglect to say that Hilton Jacobs has classics under his belt in Cooley High and Claudine. And he got third bill on Kotter, a top hit television show- that had a very large white cast. And Boom Boom Washington has more charisma than Bobbarino. He has comedic timing and one of the best straight faced eagle eyed mugs in the game. Never a buffoon, represented for the hood, b-ball, and is a ladies man. you want to see the antisisis of JJ Evans? Check out Hilton Jacobs dealing with his siblings and James Earl Jones in Claudine.

I was expecting this to be a comedy album! Anyhow, I looked on Discogs -- this and the next year's follow-up "All the Way... Love" are pretty common, then after that he put out a couple of ultra-obscure singles in the mid-80s, including one on MCA Records that was only released in Colombia (?!?)

He has another album too that came out a year later, "All The Way...Love". Crate diggers have probably come across one of these over the years. One of those risky late 70's albums you hope to find something to sample from but will probably just come up on a bunch of wack disco sht. I always thought the song "Mr. DJ" was apex sus. Singing a ballad to a male DJ? What part of the game is that? This dude is on some quiet storm sht, trippin' over a dude that plays records. A simple "good lookin' out DJ.." would have sufficed. Don't get your hopes up because Lamont Dozier had his hand in it.
