I feel like cops where I live have nothing better to do than to show up to court. If they went out of their way to give you a ticket then you’re gonna see that one cop that cares there.
I got a ticket. I had watched one of your videos awhile ago about doing continuances on my case several times because the cop might not show up. At my last court date I had, the cop didn't show up. Everything was thrown out. It was all you that got me out of paying a lot of money. Thank you for that.
@@forceinater214 that’s not true lol. Don’t listen to him 😂 had a $400 speeding ticket criminal speeding and never had a bump on my insurance. If you’re reoffending then maybe ya but you’ll get kicked off an insurance before you start getting $3000 monthly payments lmao
Helps that some cops are also dumb, making it easier to fight it. I say some cause I know there's some smart ones out there, we just haven't found them yet. #1: Cop tried to give us a ticket for not having a seat belt on, we were in the parking lot at the bank, door open, vehicle off, about to get out and go in. #2 Speeding ticket, cop was going to opposite direction making his radar inaccurate. He didn't show up to the court date.
I ALWAYS go to Traffic Court. Over the past 10 years, I've contested 7 parking tickets & 2 moving violations. As of this date, I am 7 dismissals & 2 reductions in fines (+ no points against my record). I hate to admit it, but now I mainly do it for sport - Except for the annoying Bailiffs in the City of Atlanta Magistrate Court, it's fun!
Question I went to court once 40 yrs ago ( yup i am a quasi geezer) and pled my case to the judge. The judge yawned and sided with the cop....plus......there was an additional "court cost". I relied on a reasonable argument but cops and judges are blood and they despise civilians. You are a brave soul to fool with that crowd.
@@compassioncampaigner728 That's how they build that despicable wall of intimidation. Some Courts are more into it than others. Shame on your Court for sticking it to you. Tha' makes me wanna go bait one of them into an improper ticket just to win one in Court on your behalf ! Anyway. Best to you.
@@archlab007 You are a comforting listener. Here's my all time uber injustice and then i am done: ......drove into aa all traffic booze checkpoint 6 years ago .....not a problem for me - i dont drink at all ......cop asks for lic and reg. ......just had gotten the car and in my cleaning frenzy i misplaced the reg .....the cop's hair lit on fire from joy when i said i couldnt find my reg (and the cop scores a summons for his quota) .....cop went off to gleefully write the ticket ......i found the registration and ran up to the cop to show him within 4 mins of his walking away to write the summons .......cop said " Too late, I already started the ticket" ( i am thinking- not too late if i was a cop relative or Public Works guy or county employee) ......in court the judge reduced 180.00 to 100.00 instead of zero becz of my points - like my points have anything to do with anything in this paperwork case. Subsequently, I pretty much despise cops and D As and judges because they despise civilians, see traffic court civilans as ripe revenue portals..and......they brutalize the defenseless. Defenseless? Look at Uvalde and Stoneman Douglas.....they run like rabbits from even the slightest in equivilent firepower ( not suggesting i support school shooters-just the cops who in both cases run and hide from them). I digress. Thanks for listening. That is a sore poiat that has become a very mild and only occasional itch given that it was 6 years ago, but the injustice energy never goes away.
@@compassioncampaigner728 You touched on a Root Cause of why trust in the police & courts is low. The overwhelming perception is that they are there to make things difficult, not solve problems' & that the court is not for the people who are pulled in as plaintiffs or defendants. It is there for the Officers of the Court. Same can be said for most Police Officers. All that said, the solution is definitely NOT to defund police, but it IS definitely to change much of the mission of the Police.
@@archlab007 Defunding has been torqued by the corp media (6 corps own 100% of the media t hanks to Clinton's '96 Telecommunications Act) into suggesting ALL money be removrd from cops. Not the genuine thrust at all....a reduction in funding ( fewer armored cars/hollow point bullets/etc.) and a reduction in psychotic behavior is the meaning of defunding. Sleepy Joe, however, just gave the cops $38 billion with no strings attached..... .so much for nationwide protests against cop bullying/persecution. All empires behave exactly like this as their decline accelerates.
I was going to fight a Traffic ticket once. But the Court house told me if I enter a not guilty plea, and I lose, my fine will be automatically doubled. What kind of world is this where your punished for defending yourself ?
It must have been because of lots of cases where people who were clearly guilty (not you, other people such as say people driving 70mph/113kmh in a 50mph/80kmh zone) pointlessly argued against thier tickets and just wasted everyone's time when they were very clearly guilty. If someone has some decent evidence (i.e. a picture of the parking zone, a noted inaccuracy in the written parking ticket, photos of relevant speed signs, the requested video footage from the video camera mounted on the front of the police cruiser, etc) they can likely easily fight an unjust parking ticket. If they cannot then that's telling. It's just like how the IRS can instantly level additional fines on defendants in America who argue against tax avoidance charges with ridiculous nonsensical "sovereign citizen" claims such as "i dOn'T tHiNk tHaT's tHe U.S. fLaG hOIsTeD nEaR tHe fRoNt oF tHe cOuRt bUiLdInG, I tHiNk tHaT's a nAVaL fLaG iNsTeAd" or something like "I tHiNk tHe sTaTe gOvErNmENt iS iLLeGiTiMaTE". I'm talking about pointless arguments that just waste everyone's time, are almost instantly struck down by a judge and needlessly cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars. Also most parking tickets only involve relatively small amounts of money, so that's probably why the policy has not been struck down due to political controversy.
@09mrmarshall I thibk I have a slightly less cynical view about the U.S court system than you do. The person can still contest the charges, it's just that if they're proven guilty they have to pay double the fine since they took up the court's time when they most likely knew they were guilty. U.S. judges have very little leeway in determining what laws they get to enforce or not. Like one time I remember reading about a judge residing over a case where a very poor financially struggling single mother just agreed to get like ten grams of cocaine shipoed to her house in an envelope and then to mail that envelope ofd to somebody else's address using her house's address ONCE in exchange for several hundred dollars. (Basically she agreed to be a one time drug mule of sorts.) The judge at the sencting basically said "unfortunately you're clearly guilty and our state's minimum sentencing guidelines says we have to give you ten years in prison." The judge also said "I genuinely don't want to have to prosecute you to ten years in prison, however that's the minimum punishment I can give out for this type of criminal charge". Also judges are specifically trained to be as emotionally objective as possible when analzying cases and deciding verdicts. Even if a driver contesting a driving ticket is a jack off (not OP, just a hypothetical naturally unsympathic person in a speculative scenario) like say a California douche bro who nonetheless offered evidence like "yo yah honourable judge or whatever this ticket is b.s. man, I got a picture of the speed limit sign that says the speed limit where I was driving is 50mph where I was doing 55mph when they said it was a 30mph zone, this is wack bro" then a judge would be required by the legal requirements of their job as well as probably their job contract requirements to seriously consider the evidence. If the judge found that that evidence was legitimate and the defendant was indeed only going 5mph over the speed limit when the cops said he was doing 25mph over the speed limit, then the defendant would win their case and the ticket would be thrown out. However if the evidence was illegitimate (like the defendant had intentionally or unintentionally misled the court by giving a picture of a speed limit sign from a different road) then the defendant would lose the case and be forced to pay double the fine. Also I think there are lots of dummies out there who get speeding tickets and argue crap in court like "bAh wHatEvEr I cOuLdn'T sEE aNyOnE eLsE oN tHe rOaD aNd iT wAs LaTe aT nIgHt", or stuff like "Waah tHe sPeeD LiMiT sIgN iS tOO hArD to rEaD" (wheb one of the 2 front lights on their car is busted) that's probably why the local lawmakers instituted that rule that if you disbute a parking ticket and lose you have to pay double the fine. (Having worked in lots of unskilled and low-skill blue collar jobs I can personally testify that there is a TERRIFYING number or barely mentally functioning out there in the world, just as I'm sure anyone who's worked at a frestaurant or grocery store also could.) It does not help that in our current day and age it's considered uncouth to call out other people on committing objectionably stupid acts i.e. driving fast late at night just because you think nobody else is around.
I have a fun story about a cop forgetting info. He forgot to list which court to go to, so calling every court in the area for weeks, finally find which one it's at, go, get it dismissed. A week later, my license is suspended. The cop wrote another ticket, with the court listed and forged my signature on the new ticket. I sent a copy of the orginal ticket and the forged one to the judge and had it dismissed again. I hope that cop was fired but it was Phoenix so...Probably not.
Dates are usually for the cops favor, call for difrent dates, they will give you also cop favored dates, ask for dfirent dates from the list nicely. You'll then get the second list of dates that are bad for the cops
Several years ago Had Pay To Park electronic ticket that you display on dashboard to show you paid - when I closed the car door - the receipt flew off the dashboard - got a parking ticket - went to court WITH the receipt. Judge REFUSED to even look at it!
Important to check who the ticket is from. Tickets from colleges for example can be totally ignored. All they can do is hold your transcript, if you went there and need them
One time got a ticket when I had paid for the spot. Took a picture and never even had to go to court. I called department that did the parking lot (maybe DOT, can’t remember) and they dismissed the ticket themselves. This was a pay and park public parking lot.
Tried this and included the photo evidence as well as explaining the situation and error of the cop. However, somehow I still didn’t win for some reason all though I was in the right
I fought a speeding ticket and went before the famous RI traffic court Judge Caprio. He wasn’t online yet though, he was just as compassionate as he appears!
Law by mike, if I kill someone for self defense. How can I put the odds in my favor? I know it's a dark question but, this could help quite a lot of people.
Hey Mike Disputing a ticket is not that easy. I tried scrutinizing the ticket and the judge said he’s not going to allow me to nitpick on the ticket. He said either I am guilty or not guilty. So I presented photos And the judge said the photos do not illustrate how the ticket was erroneous. So I had to pay because of an unsympathetic/ bias judge. In the past I was usually successful at getting the fine lowered with my evidence.
Why is there randomly a picture of Steve Buscemi in the background??? I mean, I love the guy's work, but his pic in the background here just seems random lol
Got a parking ticket in Washington, DC on my rental car. The rental agency sent me a bill for TWO parking tickets. I sent them money for ONE parking ticket and a note. The note said, "Check date on second parking ticket. It is beyond date of my rental dates." Never heard from them (or Washington, DC) again.
I’d rather just pay the 25 to 50 dollars it takes 2 minutes rather than waist and entire day going to court and probably paying more in court fees than the actual ticket.
Yo lawyer Mike, if I missed jury duty because I had no transportation; the bus to get to court is more than 90 minutes, what do I do? Do I contact the court?
I got a ticket in DC recently and am so pissed because they said I failed to display the parking receipt even though I did display it, I just didn’t display it in the windshield because it wouldn’t have been visible. I didn’t take pictures at the location because I didn’t notice it until after I left.
In Australia the magistrate just postpone, so you have to come again. When it comes to making money for the state, you screwed. That why if you done crime, you got a good chance not to go to prison, but pay fine
Yeah I went through this BS in 2018. The cop was all kinds of wrong. And I took pictures, but they didn't allow cam phones into the court. I didn't have a printer. So I had to pay to have them printed at Walgreens. By the time I got my day, the judge had already dismissed the cased. I should have sued that cop for my costs. The ticket was a lie and was written incorrectly anyway.
I accidentally made a wrong turn on a one way (it was dark, the sign wasn't visable, and there were no cars to tell me where I should go) but the second I made the turn, I realized what I did, so I pulled over but it was too late. I kid you not, eight police officers surrounded me like it was the drug bust of the century. It was going to be $280+ but I went to court to fight it. I had never been to court and I was scared senseless. I presented my case to the judge, he heard my explanation and I apologized for my mistake. He was very kind and moved it down to a $40 parking ticket so it didn't even go on my record.
What the courts do in my area. You go to court. Court knocks it down to impeding the flow of traffic. Traffic. You pay Court costs. It doesn't go on your driving record. You get no points on your driving record
Here in AZ, we have speed and red light cameras. When they catch someone speeding or running a red light, they photograph the car, plate, and driver. Then they mail a ticket to the address associated with the license plate registration and include the pics and data. Truth is, that "ticket" is just a letter rudely requesting your money. 😸 If you haven't been officially served the citation in person by a person capable of doing so, it's not valid. If you ignore the mailed ticket, the government has 120 days to send a server to your house and physically hand you the citation, which makes it legally durable. If they can't or don't send an agent to serve the ticket or if you evade the agent successfully for 120 days, the ticket is auto-dismissed from the court. Chances are, a person with no offenses and 1 small red light or speeding ticket isn't worth the investment. The court selectively prioritizes whomever is a repeat offender or recipient of a high dollar ticket and serves them rather than the small fries. 😺 You know how the cops say you must sign the ticket they give you and that it is not an admission of guilt, rather it's just acknowledging receipt of the ticket? That's why. The signature is legal proof that you were served the ticket by an agent capable of doing so, and it's valid because of that. What's not durable in court is a nastygram in the mail saying "We got your picture here pal, so you better pay up or else! We mean it! Not playing here buster, send in the cash!" You just rip that puppy up and toss it in the recycling, then don't answer the front door for 4 months and hope they don't care enough about you to hunt you down. Btw, the other thing people have done is wear Halloween costumes which conceal their identity fully, and when they go to court they just say "That's not me. How can you prove that that's me? Yes that is my car, but I did not commit the crime. Someone took possession of my vehicle without my permission and committed the offense without my consent or knowledge. I'm not liable."
Yeah but if you fight it an LOSE you then have to pay full price PLUS court fees But if you just admit it you can usually get it down to at least half price
It's true! Just go to court. I went this road when I was a kid and had my driver's license suspended twice. Now it's valid, and about to get my g.e.d. to join The California Highway Patrol
My friend got out of many tickets by checking disagree at the traffic stop and he wouldn’t even go to court. I guess a lot of the times the cops don’t go either. Is he for real or is he filling my ears with BS 💩
Yeah how do we fight these camera tickets for making a right on red when the light was red for 0.2 seconds... Then for bonus school bus camera tickets on 6 lane highways, how are you supposed to stop in the opposing lanes and not get in accident?
