She's the same age Amy Coney Barrett was when Trump raised her from merely a highly respected Law Professor to a Federal Judge, also on the short list to be a Supreme Court Justice, which happened in 3 years. Barrett must still be in a state of amaze, here she is the most influential Justice, number 5 in the 5/4 decisions and in 2017 she was just a Law Professor. Merchant is much more accomplished at age 46-47, and has a much better resume for Federal Judge, then I'm 2028 before he leaves office Thomas or Alito could retire and an only 51 year old Merchant could replace them. So she, Barrett and the other Trump nominees would be a solid block of four Trump Justices that a future Republican POTUS could add to when Chief Justice steps down. In that scenario there could be at least 25 years of at least 5/4 Trump style Republican dominated Supreme Court. So it's a good move on her part.

The judge took way too long to make a decision but at least they were thorough enough that an appeals court will toss this frivolous request out. Trying to get this case tossed because the DA went out with another attorney who is even more successful than her is absurd.

Different states have different laws/procedures. In Georgia, you are exactly correct. To have a prosecutor removed from a case, they would have to show that a specific factor would not allow the defendant to receive a fair trial. That includes the DA having a relationship with the defendant (good or bad), or being paid to go easy or be unfair to a defendant. They are fishing all around about an HR problem for the county. I think this is the water she swims in so she can't see that this has zero impact on the trial she is involved in.
