Hi all, after my spiderweb coaster experiment with the stencil film, I thought about using stencils in layers in resin. My only deep enough mould is this mini stand I got from a seller on Etsy a while ago, link in the tools below, but if you wanna have a go at this with a deep mould of your own please do!
Disclaimer: I'm not claiming this idea, by now I'm pretty sure everything has been done before in resin, at least everything I think of lol. But we all put our own spin on things, and that's fun to see. So if you've done something like this before holler in the comments, I'd love to see.
In regards to the patterns I used for the stencils: The diamond one was downloaded from a free site, and I edited it slightly for Design Space to be able to cut it. (Link below).
The damask was part of a pattern I THINK I bought from Design Bundle. I edited out a single design from the pattern sheet and used that.
✨✨
I really appreciate any and all likes, comments and subscribes, as a new channel they really help push me out there and I would love to build an audience within the crafty community.

I have totally fallen in love with this idea! Thanks you for sharing 😊 Have you tried using tacky glue, or gilding glue before adding your mica layers? Was just wondering if that would help the mica stick to the resin better, and since you are putting another layer of clear over the design, it would lock it in just fine.

Thank you! I did think about using a repositionable spray glue to stuck the stencil down, but I was concerned the residue might leave marks. I didn't think about any other glue prep, to be honest, but I'll definitely try some tacky glue next time and see if that works better - thank you!

I commented on your last video where you used glue on the mica powder and it got me thinking it would work well with holographic glitter. Now I have to try this for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Hello from mumbai, india. I was going thru youtube videos on stenciling on resin and came across yours which is the simplest method i’ve seen-others use glues/mod podge etc but i didnt want to ruin my stencils in case the glues didnt come off with washing. Your idea is by far the best one and i cant wait to try it. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you. I had a comment on this video suggesting I use tacky glue next time, and honestly I found it a very good tip, the glue is easy to peel off the stencil when it's dry. I got a much even, clear edged layer of mica powder on the resin with tacky glue. Perhaps try and dab a bit of glue on your stencil, leave it to dry and see if it comes off okay? I hope that's useful advice : )

@@looseskullsscrafts Hi. Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately we dont get all the crafty stuff you do so have to make do with whats avaulable. Saw on my amazon they do have elmers tacky glue. Is that what i should buy?? I can also get adhesive glue for gold leading so which of these 2 should i go for???your valuable advice will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your troubles.

Sorry i mean adhesive glue for gold leafing-pls excuse typo error

@@babujaan18 I think Elmers brand is American so I haven't used that, but it does seem to be popular with lots of crafters, I have seen them use it a lot. I just bought a very cheap tacky glue from my local craft shop, I don't think it matters what brand : ) Some commenters have suggested gilding glue to me, so perhaps it is a good substitute! I haven't used gilding glue in resin yet so I can't say for certain how well it performs.

@@looseskullsscrafts wow!!!thanx for your quick reply. After writing to you i happened to come across steve mcdonald’s channel on stencilling on resin and he used gilding glue to stick mica powder on a stencil and it worked great so maybe i’ll go with that. Many thanx again for all your inputs. Much appreciated. Have a great day

Looks good! ..,But yeah, there's a reason "pouncer brushes" exist and are recommended for stencils. Brushing anything over a stencil pretty much guarantees seeping under the stencil unless you've got a sticky stencil. I think maybe you could get away with using a firm eyeshadow brush though. Also, UV resin might be useful for getting the layers done faster if you pounce it on right after the mica then remove the stencil before fixing any areas that need it and curing. Another option is a quick light mist of a spray glue but you might need masking tape for the edges if you do it that way since you made the stencils smaller than the mould. Keep experimenting! 😉👍

Thank you so much, I hadn’t heard of pouncer brushes, will definitely look those up. Another commenter gave a very good tip of using tacky glue for projects like this, so I tried it out and it was very effective - excellent tip 👌 Thank you so much!
@ChibiChula
@ChibiChula Год назад
@@looseskullsscrafts Pouncer brushes are also called "stencil brushes" so you don't get confused. You can search them up under either name. You're more likely to find actual brushes under the name "stencil brush" and the foam type under the name "pouncer brush" but they both work well. And yeah, tacky glue is also a good option, either putting it down before and then sealing the powder after with it or just mixing the mica in and treating it like a paint. Experiment to find out what works best for you. 😁👍
