Often wondered how a cantilevered beam is supported. Neat solution.

Excellent work guys. It’s nice to see other builders/tradesmen taking pride in their work and demonstrating the complexities that we often face to make customers requirements a reality. Most don’t understand the preparation and technical work that actually goes into building projects. They just see the finished article and superficial touches.

Hi fatprawnMTB thanks for your kind words, it helps having a great team and it is true most clients don’t understand but we do like to involve are clients as much as we can because I do feel it’s part of their journey and dream. Thanks for watching and Keep Safe regard Tony

@@BuildWithAE Hi Tony, thanks for your reply and I hope that you guys are keeping safe during these unprecedented times. Just to clarify, I was referring more to the wider public (rather than clients) that assume extensions etc are thrown up in no time etc. Much like you, we try to keep the client involved as much as possible so they can watch their dream become a reality. Many actually make scrapbooks of the developments, you've gone one step further with the videos. Really interesting to watch from another builders perspective, always nice to see how other reputable tradesman operate. All the best guys

Great video - given how accurate the foundation measurements have to be, how do you ensure you don’t pour too much concrete into the foundations and so bring the concrete up too high? Or is there a sufficient tolerance in the footings that’s this is not really a concern? Many thanks and thanks for sharing the vid - am enjoying the series! 👍

Hi Ash in the U.K. it’s very rare that you have rebar in the footings only in a ring beam situation sitting on Piles all the best Tony 👍

Only just started watching your vids, very informative btw, but have to ask why the encased steel beam and stub column in the footings?
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 4 года назад
Hi coops66, I'm glad you're enjoying our videos. The steel and stub were installed in the footing to carry the cantilever beam above it. This was specified by the structural engineer. Keep watching the series and all will be explained. Thanks for watching, all the best John 😊

Hi guys, thanks for the vids. Generally not trying to nitpick but learn or gain some advice. Why didn't you shutter around the waste pipe work and lintel over? Genuine question, thanks guys :)
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 4 года назад
Hi Leigh great question, couple of reasons, the engineer first because he didn’t want the gap because it affected the line of the steel post and another reason the existing was going to become redundant once we had run the new drains, it was only being left in temp until new soils were put in, which you can see in later videos thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍

Great vid. One thing I'm confused about is how you've very accurately laid out the position for the footings, but then obviously the spray paint is not v accurate at all. How do you know where withing the spray paint the exact position is? Thanks

Why don't they use rebar in the foundations? I see it all the time in American builds.

I'm researching before undertaking a lot of my own work on an extension and am curious about the pipes which don't seem to have had lintels installed over, and just wrapped in bubble wrap or plastic prior to pouring. Can you let me know about that?

V.interesting series! But those Acros look terrifying, with hefty loads on them and no diagonal bracing right, next to the unsupported edge of the footings. Must be worrying working on such a confined site.

There is no way that self leveling concrete with no rebar in it is strong enough to carry a house.

Hi Scott Huff well just so you know it is, if you look up the specification sheet of Tarmac Concrete you will see everything that you need to see to put your mind at rest thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍
@Aaron-gl8cm
@Aaron-gl8cm 3 года назад
You would only need rebar to distribute the load to a larger area to reduce the bearing stress on the soil as concrete is not very good in tension the compressive stresses allowed in plain concrete are huge. Most of the wall is a standard strip and usually in this scenario (domestic) the governing design factor is the ground rather than the concrete. Where you would typically need rebar is below the steel column however, in this case they have used an encased steel to do the same job. Very neat and tidy.
