Super excited for your game! I'm an avid city builder player and Laysara is the one that stands out among so many generic releases coming out. I hope you can find a solution for building rotation, as I feel it's pretty important to give this level of choice/strategy as well as adding depth to the world, or else it feels super flat and lifeless (which is my main gripe with The Wandering Village). I also really think we should have a free camera, so we can rotate, zoom in and get immersed in the place we're building, and enjoy the stunning vistas that our villagers get. I understand it's a challenge but I think it's essential, even if it's in the way Timberborn does it (unlocking the camera in settings with a warning that janky stuff might show up). It's hard to connect with the world we build if we're locked at a bird's eye view. Wishing you lots of success! Will be getting this as soon as it's available.

I would just say to have a second build option for the models which have different lengths and widths. Anything that's square makes sense to leave as is; rectangular structures should probably just have a second build option. That's just my opinion and it's a lot of work, but it would exempt creating a rotate function and it would lock certain buildings in a proper manner, which is technically accurate for slope building cultures.
@zoranvujovic998
@zoranvujovic998 Год назад
It would make sense to use a circular building mode (similar to frostpunk) when you build on a slope with mountain as a center. Also, in frostpunk, most buildings are pretty close to a square so rotating doesn't give you anything space wise, and is not possible if my memory serves me well. With rectangles that have big ratios between sides (eg 2:1) you end up wishing you could rotate them for easier city planning. Btw, great idea for a game, wish you all the best.
@ThePwnageHobo
@ThePwnageHobo Год назад
Building on a mountain means that every building sits on a slope. So if they wanted to allow you to rotate buildings, they would require 4 different models for each variant of each building, and then more for clumping. That's a lot of extra work for an indie dev

The only part he was specifically wrong about was the "powder" part. Mandala don't necessarily need to be an expression of impermanence through art, but what he was attempting to describe in the video was the exact practice LaserStorm referred to. You can even see this in the video. The Mandala "building" gradually builds up the art and then after some time dissolves it, only to redo it shortly thereafter.

What I do for Eggs in a Basket: 1. Take a circular lid from one of your spice jars (something in your kitchen will work) and press out a little hole in the middle of the slice of bread. Butter the bread _on one side_ more than you think is appropriate (trust me). 2. Put the burner on low/med-low and put both parts of the buttered bread in the pan. _Carefully_ crack the egg into the hole in the center. Cook for like.. 3 minutes. 2a. I usually don't let the pan heat up all the way before I put the stuff in. That way, the egg has time to heat up gradually along with the bread. This helps prevent the bread from burning before the egg has time to finish cooking. 2b. Cover pan for 30 seconds if you want the egg a little more done in the middle, but it's not strictly necessary. 2c. At the end, you can also flip it *very carefully* (using 2 spatulas helps) and cook on the other side for about 10-20 seconds; that finishes up the less done egg on top perfectly for an over-easy style egg! 3. Salt + pepper + maybe hot sauce 4. At the end you can use the little circle toastyboi from step 1 to soak up any tasty egg yolks that may have ended up on the plate 🤗

Now it's a superfund site and they're reprocessing the slag into sandblasting and roofing material, so Mordor is slowly disappearing.

When I was in college, the Dalai Lama came to give a speech and there was a Tibetan art exhibition at the museum that included a group of monks making a sand mandala. I got to watch them build it, then wipe it away and pour the sand into the ocean. Sand mandalas are part of Tibetan Buddhism and they do represent impermanence and nonattachment, but mandala paintings are common in Hinduism and other forms of Buddhism. They're geometric patterns that represent deities or a spiritual journey and are used to focus a meditation.

Egg in a basket or Hobo egg, is a dish consisting of a slice of bread with an egg in the middle, fried with butter. It is prepared by cutting a circular or square hole in the center of a piece of bread, which is buttered. The bread is fried in a pan with butter or other fat. At some point, an egg is cracked into the hole in the bread. I will put a fat slab of butter in the middle of the hole so it makes a little butter bath that the egg will fry in. You also fry up the little part of bread you cut out so you can dip it in the egg yolk while you're eating.

I suspect they don't allow you to rotate buildings because the land you build on is a slope. They have designed all the models to nestle into the side of the hill, so they'd have to make a second, entirely new model for each building to allow you to rotate them 90 degrees.
@ItIsYouAreNotYour
@ItIsYouAreNotYour Год назад
You could literally rotate the thing he was talking about by 90 degrees. It's nothing about having a new model.
@dadude455
@dadude455 Год назад
This. Prime examples are the farms or bath houses which are terraced and wouldn’t make sense to just rotate the model. Even the houses have steps that go down the slope. The mandala doesn’t have a terrace or steps but it does conform to the slope… so rotating it 90 degrees wouldn’t work unless the model stretched to conform to the slope
@ItIsYouAreNotYour
@ItIsYouAreNotYour Год назад
@@dadude455 It's an optical illusion based on the camera. It could literally be rotated 90 degrees and look the same. Otherwise, putting houses together wouldn't be possible. You don't need a separate model to achieve this. It's not exactly 90 degrees to match the road. Whatever the angle is, it can turn that way.
@Sk4lli

For anyone curious about what a Mandala is. Mandala are specific circular patterned artistic forms that also hold meaning for certain spiritualist beliefs and practices. And they were also used as a sort of road map for towns and cities at one time.
@TJ-vo3rv
@TJ-vo3rv Год назад
The important part specifically related to what Splat was trying to remember is the specific practice of painstakingly creating these pieces of art, only to then destroy it upon finishing it. You can even see this in the video, where the Mandala "building" gradually completes its piece of art, only to dissolve it and start again, exactly like the real life practice (Edit: only, with the real practice, each Mandala is meant to be a unique expression of the artist(s) in the moment they are creating it, not the exact same one as before).

That do be what Buddhists do with sand mandalas. I think that it's called the dissolution, or at least what it was referred to when I went to see them. So I was looking it up after you said that. There are two core ideas with a mandala (from what I'm seeing in my dictionary). There's a geometric display, symbolizing the universe, then there's it being emblematic of unifying the self.

If you take my advice, you will be glad that you did. The proper way to make an eggy in a basket is to butter both sides of the bread, but don't toast it first, then use a cup or something with a medium to small diameter and use it to cut a circle into the center of the bread and remove the round from said center of bread. You then place the bread into a heated pan and crack an egg into the hole you created in the bread. You then proceed to season the top side before flipping ad tasting the second side while you season the other side. You can fry up the little bread rounds you removed at the same time for a like bready snack. Once the other side of your bread is cooked, flip it once more just to toast the seasoning into the second side of the bread before removing it from the pan and subsequently devouring the miracle meal that IS the eggy in the mother effin basket! You're welcome!

The meaning of "decimate" is: to separate into tenths, e.g. make ten equal pieces. It comes from the Latin prefix "deci-" and originally referred to dividing military formations into powers of ten (1000 > 100 > ten > one); ten men (called a decade) being the optimal wedge shaped formation for breaking enemy lines and defending from all sides against cavalry. When a decade was broken, it was considered decimated. Hitting any pins in a single frame while bowling is a proper modern usage of the term -- a strike or spare is decimation to the last man.

@Splattercatgaming A mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, romanized: maṇḍala, lit. 'circle', [ˈmɐɳɖɐlɐ]) is a geometric configuration of symbols. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. In the Eastern religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Shinto it is used as a map representing deities, or especially in the case of Shinto, paradises, kami or actual shrines.A mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from outside to the inner core, through layers.

Alternatively, however, it would also be kind of cool if they built some in-game lore as to the way that things are built the way they are. Like say in the world's culture, it is believed to invite bad fortune to have the front door facing the mountain; but good to have it facing out to the open. Mandalas always need to be oriented a certain direction to direct their energies toward/away from the mountain. Stuff like that. They could take that limitation and make it a point of culture.

This game is just adorable and such a nice step forward for civ games. I'd like to see death play a more central role in the lives of your little sims, particularly in the need for temples, graveyards, and sim downtime for funerals. That'd create more areas of impetus for the player to improve tools, skills, and safety for their workers, and would work really well in the civ games where each sim has a name and tracked family. For this game in particular, where mountain climbing seems to be the central theme, I would like to see bridges and shafts require an establishment period where climber sims have to traverse rock to create ropeways before new ledges can be accessed (and therefore have the possibilities of sim deaths). I'd also like to see civ games require building upgrades to need more adjacent land before they can be upgraded, just like irl. Unless you can develop better architectural engineering to build up, players should be faced with the challenge of reclaiming neighbouring plots to get bigger and better facilities. That'd put a lot more planning and prioritisation expectation on the player for more complexity and fun!

While Tibet does have temples, they have few if any graveyards. They have sky burials where due to the severe lack of land and the rocky mountainous ground being unsuitable for digging graves in people instead prepare the corpses to be eaten by wild animals like wolves and vultures (those might be the wrong animals I listed, been a while since I read about this.) Basically there are few if any graveyards in Tibet. It's also a spiritual thing in line with their local shamanistic beliefs, since that way people who come from nature become part of nature again when they die.

I feel the reason why buildimg doesnt rotate because it had to do with the mountain Feng Shui? Or theres this things about Aura/how power flows through the buildings.. idk i do feel like there should be different varieties when being rotated like horizontally the gates change its place

No building rotation?? That's a big no no
@misdur
@misdur Год назад
I think that the developers decided to don't allow the rotation of the structures because of the game design. The buildings are lying on the slope, and keeping them in the same position at this point make sense. Maybe in the future they will make assets for the rotate buildings, who knows.
@anubisfox5765
@anubisfox5765 Год назад
@@misdur its 3d theres no need to make assets for rotating since the whole building is rendered. Im inclined to agree with og comment, theres no good reason for a lack of rotation here

@@anubisfox5765 The challenge isn't in making them rotate, but having them use up space on the grid that isn't finnicky.

@@anubisfox5765 The dev responded in chat and said that the issue is due to the slope with it being a mountainside. While the models are rendered in 3d, they are created to fit the slop in one direction. If you rotated the building, it would still retain the slope of the building but going perpendicular to the slope of the mountain, so it would be rising into open air (or sinking into the ground). While this could be overcome with more work, they are a 3 man team that just doesn't have the resources to address the issue at this point.
