@Sultanoftippoo let's look at one example. The tories recently allowed companies to pollute our water systems. This didn't have to occur and likely wouldn't have under a different government. I had a similar experience with an american who was REALLY into Ayn Rand. Centre-left person here. I have friends and family who have voted a mixture of Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem and on both sides of the 2016 referendum. I think if you want to fall out with someone because you think they have a detestable personality, that's totally understandable, but I think such extreme othering of people just because of their affiliation with essentially the other half of the political spectrum is no better than othering exercised by the far-right-leaning members of the Conservative party such as Suella Braverman (and increasingly by more mainstream right wing members such as Sunak). "All Tories are disgusting" is no better than "woke lefty lawyers are the enemy of the people."

What if you yourself qualify in one of those brackets, like the people who worked in the EU and their family members voted for Brexit causing them to lose their jobs? If someone is voting against my own interests then that suggests they do not care if you get hurt in the process. That's an abusive relationship.
