LDS Church faces Lawsuit | "Fraudulent Scheme of Lies" 

Thank you for what you're doing here Jessie! I left the church over a year ago and I have been on a similar mission as you ever since. Exposing the TRUTH, and sharing our story on our podcast. Anyway, I genuinely appreciate everyone who is contributing to this cause to help more people out of all the messed up mind control in the LDS church. We all need to do our part right!

My family was destroyed by this"Church". I am 45 years old and don't have much contact with my family because of Church Doctrine or the changes to it. How do all who have been harmed in very heavy ways join this lawsuit?

Thanks for the video. I read about the lawsuit on a ex Mormon Facebook page. The things you talk about (the depression and anxiety ) are real because I experienced that myself as I was leaving the Mormon faith. I hope something comes of this lawsuit. Those leaders of the church should give up while they still can!

The more I dig into the morman church the more I see how false it is. I just love our God who makes the truth available if we seek with an open heart! It's sad that so many people are still being deceived to this day! If they would only search the scriptures for themselves without the morman church telling them what is true and false.

I felt the same way when I came to the realization that religion was based on falsehood. I feel I am still a good person but all my old friends who are still there, believe in it. I don't say anything not to be rude but I wish they would see the light as I did. I saw my light at the age of 26, but by that time I had already been inactive in the church for years. Several years ago, Tom Phillips tried to sue the LDS church in Britain. At first the court accepted the case, but later threw it out. Since then, a few people in the U.S. have wanted to sue but could not find a lawyer who was willing to take the case. Religion is very well protected here. It is a huge breakthrough for an attorney to be willing to try. It will be interesting to see how long this case can stand when our legal system has not wanted to touch religious issues or get anywhere near declaring a religion to be a fraud. If the case stands and is successful, History will have been made! It will be the talk of the nation for years to come.

Good for her!! I grew up a Mormon it was not until I was about 45 years old that I discovered the lies, 7 years ago. It is a very destructive "religion"/cult. It did me much harm and still has an impact all these years later. The church should pay for peddling known lies and deceptions.

I was born into and raised in the church, from a generationally LDS family (straight back to Martin Harris on my dad’s side). I can tell you it did immense damage emotionally, mentally and spiritually in ways that took over twenty years to even unwrap and discover. Stuff I’d long since buried, thought was my own fault, or didn’t understand at all. Plenty of existential crises, especially having grown up with gender dysphoria (I transitioned many years later). Still amazed I made it, survived, and was able to thrive once I hit my thirties. I will say, though, that I don’t think this lawsuit will go anywhere. Especially in Utah. Churches in this country are afforded _immense_ autonomy, and the US government dictating what is and isn’t truth about someone’s religion would really undermine the entire religious protections framework afforded _all_ religions. If they sided with the plaintiff(s), it would open a floodgate if lawsuits from former members of every other religion and likely cause immense constitutional crises. Some may say “let it all burn,” but I don’t believe in destroying someone else’s faith or dictating to them how their own development or growth will occur. Tearing down their religions from the outside, even if I feel those religions are dangerous and destructive, does not seem wise to me. People have to arrive at their conclusions on their own. However, we can support them and give advice if they ask for it, perhaps help them to think about aspects they hadn’t considered. But in the end, it’s up to them.

I'm glad that this person (together with the lawyer) who is suing the church is going after the church on what the church purposely and intentionally withheld from the public and their members willfully for years. I was hoping someone would do this. I think any religious organization who is withholding historical information knowing they had the responsibility to share this information to its members should be indicted for it. I was shocked when I found out that anti-Mormon literature was only anti-Mormon because it wasn't approved by the leaders until it was approved, how deceiving is that?, let's call it for what is, and stop sugar coating things. The article stated Joseph Smith was milled in MO. In actuality, he was killed in Carthage, IL. My heart breaks for all those negatively by the Mormon Church.

I grew up in the Mormon church, was baptized when I was 8 years old, I was 12 years old when my mom refused to go to another Mormon church, there was an older man that was a member was molesting two young girls under the age of 5 years old, their parents were also members, and they tried to keep it a secret plus no criminal charges were ever filed against the the child molester , I never went back to another Mormon church about 30 years later a Mormon shows up at my house and said if I wasn't going to be paying my tithing to the Mormon church they wanted to take my name off the membership, and I said please do, I had no idea I was still a member

I hope this lady is strong and doesn't just take the money and run if they offer to pay her off. If this is in Utah it may never make it to court anyway. My Mormon family members are brainwashed through and through.

Here's another "tell" that the BOM is a lie, [“And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and his mother shall be called Mary” Mosiah 3:8 Book Of Mormon]. Did you know that the word, "Christ" is NOT ancient Hebrew NOR "Reformed Egyption"? It is English for the GREEK word, 'Christos', meaning "The chosen one" or, "the anointed one" - Christos. The Hebrew word would have been, "Mashiach" or Messiah in English. So if the word, "Christ" was written on the supposed "gold plates" and translated by Joseph Smith, it would have been translated as, "Jesus Messiah" or Jesus the chosen one, but since Joseph Smith faked it all, he went ahead and put Jesus Christ, instead of Jesus Messiah or even Saviour or Jesus the Annointed, showing that he WASN'T TRANSLATING anything, but merely writing it himself. He is a liar.

Emeritus Columbia University professor Richard Bushman has summarized in great detail in his monumentally scholarly book Rough Stone Rolling all of these supposedly obfuscated elements of the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joseph Smith's use of a seer stone to translate the Book of Mormon does not negate the reality of the Book of Mormon plates or his early use of the Urim and Thummim. Nor does it negate the testimonies of the 3 and 8 witnesses and others who saw and felt the plates. The man who brought the suit against Joseph Smith for using a seer stone to find buried treasures was not Josiah Stowell, the person who actually hired Joseph to look for treasures--he was happy with Joseph's work, but a person who was annoyed by the fact that Joseph Smith was carrying out the activity at all. Joseph did not cheat the person who filed the complaint or the man who hired him in any way. Josiah Stowell actually came to Joseph's defense in the trial. It is an amazing work that stands on its own as a source of sound Christian doctrine and religious truth. I have read it many times and still find it's teachings of significant value. My father was the son of ministers of the Disciples of Christ Church and studied the Church's teaching in detail for 3 years before he became convinced by his own study that the Church's teachings are more closely aligned with the teachings and practices of Christ's church in ancient times than any other church in existences to day. The Church has opened original historical records of Joseph Smith's writing to scholars all over the world. I know of people whose fulltime jobs at the Church History Department is to help scholars get original accurate records regarding the history of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and others into their hands. Access to the historical records of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is as about as open and unobfuscated as you can get. I have pioneer ancestors who came to Utah in 1857 on my mother's side. They were first hand witnesses to the actions of the early Church leaders in Utah. Some helped build the Salt Lake Temple. One served as a bishop for 35 years. I currently live in downtown Salt Lake City in an area were the current Prophet and President and many apostles live. I lived down the hall from Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley before he became the prophet. He was an avid student of history and as open and truthful as any man could be. I felt the spirit of God in his presence. I think the person making these charges will find that the Church has considerable evidence to refute the claims and complaints in this lawsuit.

Hard to believe that a former member of this religion would now have hard feelings towards it. I am truly shocked that a disgruntled individual would make allegations against an organization that they now claim to be false. Mind-blowing.

This sounds exactly like the SDA(Seventh Day Adventist) church of which i was a member for over 20 years and the only thing that came out of it was a broken family, poor health from all the stress and we were never able to reach our American dream of owning our own home but the church was paid off and all the pastors kids had a great education inland and overseas while church members lost their homes and some even their lives.

I really hope this lawsuit enables the people to open their eyes, and see why they are not transparent into why they ask for money monthly..this is a cult! and hopefully this lawsuit uncovers their false devious nature!

These people would have depression anyway.If you wanna be depressed over a religion .. . Try Catholicism. Depression is a medical condition and has little to do with political or religious ideology.

Wow! This is the first time I came across you. Born atheist, became Mormon after adoption at age 8 and seen things that would have made anyone leave. I still go to church but Christ has always been my center. I know this makes me different from the rest of the members. I am beyond happy, yet many around me seem sad or depressed or even crazy. I see it all.

I can’t wait to hear Fair Mormon’s paltry rebuttal. When Jesus said His “yoke is easy, and (his) burden is light”, He meant it. There is no condemnation in Him, so depression from overwhelming feelings of inadequacy is NOT from Jesus. That alone should wake you up.

It would be good if this suit could succeed, but I'm not optimistic about it. Two reasons are; First, courts are very reluctant to deal with religions. Second, "The Church" has tons of cash and the best attorneys it can buy.
