Purchased a Trailrider mid last year and it’s a great Ute. Then purchased a pro after that. Compared to everything on the market at the under $40k mark the LDVs are a great choice. For the ones that say “should have bought a Toyota,Ford, Isuzu, Mitsubishi ect”a lot of people can’t afford over $50k- $60k for a Ute that is can be used for work all week and still take the family away on weekends. It will never be a Hilux or a Ranger but it will always be a T60 and they all have a place in the market and if LDV can do it for a budget friendly price why can’t the others?
@@rickbell814 both T60’s have been great, considering both utes are used for different purposes. The Trailrider for play towing a camper and long distance driving. The pro gets used reasonably well carting around loads and long distance driving. only had one issue with our Pro and it was the DPF failed to do a regeneration but was taken to the dealership and reset with no problems since. I am now awaiting the delivery of my new LDV Deliver 9 LWB van. I am quite happy with the brand and the support from my local dealership has been above and beyond my expectations.
I have had my T60 since April 2018, and love driving it, albeit infrequently in the Covid lockdown period. Sure, it may lack a bit of power at times, but I don't need that very often, and I'm not sure who does. On the freeway it just purrs along at 100 km/hr with no difficulty. Can't wait to take it on a longer trip when the opportunity presents again. Last service (30,000 kms) cost around $600, but that included new fitted wiper blades. Only problem I have had is getting my phone to connect for navigation via the big screen.
I have a few friends who have T60's mainly because they were 20K cheaper than a Hilux. They have done 50,000 km each with no problems. They start, accelerate brake, and turn when required. Considering the price I think they are ok.
@@CruiserBrah No I would never throw away that much money on a useless truck. there's a reason they are so cheap on the used market. They devalue extremely fast because Chinese trucks are not known for reliability. If a 15 year old Toyota is worth more than a 3 year old Chinese made truck that just goes to show how unreliable they are. Absolute junk, avoid them like the plague. Crappy quality control, inferior components, no customer service and not to mention your money goes towards supporting a communist regime.
had a t60 for 2 years now with a trailer around 2t hooked everyday. it's about 70k on the clock now and no issue at all,it's not the best ute you can get but it is the best value ute on the market.
Good on them for making a sensible dual cab ute. It also just goes to show that it’s not hard to bring in “niche” models. I pray for the day I can buy a single cab triton (or similar) with a proper tub back on it.
"Now, you might be worried about owner prospects." Well... Can't be much worse than a Colorado owner right now XD. I bought a Triton over an T60 because I was concerned about the longevity of the brand... I was worried about the wrong company apparently. I have been seeing more LDVs on the road, and honestly? I'm happy for them, the T60 was very comnpelling... I'm a little pissy this mega tub version was just released after I bought my triton though. I don't tow much but I do tend to carry a lot, that big tub woulda been nice.
Noticed a little too much bounce over the speed humps loaded. But at 2/3rds the price of the comp, Bilsteins are totes affordable. Why didn't Walkinshaw tune the motor while they had it? Wonder if Benny or Turbo Yoda could warm it up? Solid review Matt.
A bigger tub on the back. Let's hope the others are paying attention. I do like the look of the proportions. The only other options for a larger tub starts at 80k ram
I love the step into the back. Super practical. I'd live to see a detailed comparison between the LDV T60 Mega and the Musso XLV - including when towing and off road. Does the LDV T60 Mega have an auto locking rear diff?
Thanks Dave. We'll see if we can arrange that - we're intrigued as to what the outcome would be, too! And yes, the Mega does have the same auto locking rear diff as the standard top spec models.
Love the fact that they have moved the rear axle and wheels further back. This allows the ute to carry a load better rather than having the load hanging behind the rear axle. But on the flip side when you go offroad 4wding you now have a huge ramp over angle. Which means you will be more likely to get hung up on stuff. So in other words this ute would be great for a tradie using it only for work. But if you want to go 4wding not the best option. Plus it would be a pain to park at the shopping center being so long.
@@letsseeif completely different. Japanese succeeded because they had a very good process in place. And had a perseverance for perfection. Look where the country is after down to ashes during the WW2. I don't see chinese being able to replicate that. For a matter of fact nobody was able to replicate the Japnese reliability yet.
@@pummyy I don't know that for sure. I've had Toyotas aplenty, but the dealers leave tended to leave me less than gruntled. They're reliable vehicles though. I sometime wonder why The Empire of Japan violently killed so many in Asia and Aussie ! Yet, both Japan and Germany were largely forgiven and told to 'play on' as they say in Cricket.
@@pummyy you probably don’t know that the Chinese make all the luxury makes like BMW etc What makes you so sure their cars will not continually improve? Manufacturing cars is not rocket science which they have already mastered. Plus they have economy of scale.
What is the Dealer Network like? Do they provide you a loan car when it’s in for service or a warranty repair? Do they readily stock common service parts, and body parts like headlights / tail lights? A Ute or car can be great value for money, butbif there is no reliable after sales support, the car is worthless..
Are you serious? I don’t even get a loan car for my almost AUD60k Toyota Kluger when sent in for service or warranty repairs. And yes I hv had a few of those- 3 actually.
Andy Y I’m not saying a loan car should be “free” ( I think only Ford provides that service, right?) , but all other major brands off a loan vehicle for about $40-45 per day. If they want to be taken as a serious contender, then they better offer the same level of after sales service. It also depends where these 80 LDV Dearlships are situated, what is their spare parts support like ( do parts , other than consumable service parts, have to be ordered in? ) .
I've Been keen on these utes as my spending power is limited. I've seen many good reviews about this vehicle all round but the under powered engine is a problem for me, maybe a uni chip and retune could be the answer but at what cost for how much extra power to at least match my current car a 2014 Kia sorento that has plenty of power and torque to spare. Can anyone advise? Cheers
Okay, so you can easily jam 2 trailbikes in the back of that, side by side, and still close the tailgate.. probably three if you managed to get one in backwards.
Most dirtbikes are 210-220cm total length. Maybe with wheels turned side ways and some angle action you could get 2 in...but I'm guessing 1 dirtbike corner to corner diag. This tray is Slightly shorter than a falcon Ute tub and they generally fit 1 bike corner to corner. 176cm would get you up to about the rear axle on my 450 if it's straight. I still like this Ute. I hope more extended chassis options come out. It's the way to go
do they provide them with a tray or without the tub and is there a load increase if heavier springs are installed? Is there a factory spring boost and trailer hitch availability and what are the service and parts availability like?
Love my LDV T60 only thing I could complain about is the lack of quality in the stereo. On the engine output side of things I have the SDrive and is sensational really tuned up to a Colorado equivalencies
Finally a decent sized tray on a baby 4 door ute. Now all they need to do is make the same chassis with a space cab . Reminiscing about my old Rodeo with the long tray.
Matt Campbell 4wd action recently did an off-road test where all the utes has the same tyres, would love to see something similar with the LDV and SsangYong included.
The distances cross border between ksa and Jordan is 900km....I use to drive at 120..130km/hr speed. ...which is more fixed on road and less noisy from engine and air out side
The pick up is nice. But can you show us how it brakes from 100 -0 km. fully loaded with 5 adults and 500 kilos??? And please make the same with a Triton and a Navara and Ranger. This is real life working for many of us.
@@gheufbfff Maybe. But the actual test would solve any doubts. I almost had a crash because i assumed that my chinese pick up would work just as the others....and i was wrong. And lucky. I can tell the story with my family. Cheers.
You know what I have done with all my utes over the years? I've disposed of them. If you really want to see disposable - check out an electric vehicle.
@@davexb6595 don't get me started on electric vehicles. All this talk about them having zero emissions or being good for the environment. You know what would be good for the environment? If the world stopped making cars for 5 - 10 years and we just use and maintain the ones we have. But there would be no money in it.
People get hypnotised by the cheaper price of this sort of thing, blindly forgetting that the cost of a vehicle is the difference between what you buy it for and what you sell it for. How many takers are there going to be for a second hand Chinese ute?
@@jimhing if someone turned up on site in one of these they instantly mark themselves and their company as being cheapskates, and of an inferior standard. Therefore I wouldn’t employ their service.
I'm in Saudia Arabia. .the price for diseal is 0.45 for 1 ltr. .I'll use it for long distances roads and little use for cargo. I have 3 sons. ..in Jordan I'll use it also for transportation. Really? ?which is better 4 me. .t60 or wingle7. Both are available in manual transmission
…0.45 in what currency, mate? That does sound very affordable 😃 If you won’t use it much for cargo do you really need a ute with a big tub? Dunno what the wingle7 is - haven’t heard of one or seen it yet. Who manufactures it?

We would love it but the problem is that it would be easily double the price of what you pay in the USA. Plus fuel is almost twice the cost also. If you can find a way to get an 8 foot bed full size pickup here in RHD for $60,000 - $65,000 AUD with 5 year warranty, you would sell thousands of them every year. The cheapest full size pickup available here is the RAM 1500 Classic Express 4x4 5 seater auto V8 petrol without options, which is $80,000 drive away. All the other full size pickups are over $100,000. And they only have a 3 year warranty. (The norm here is 5 year warranty with many having 7 years). You can't get an 8 foot bed full size pickup at all unless it is custom imported and custom converted to RHD. Whereas the auto of this LDV mega tub 4cyl auto diesel 4x4 with all the options is $37,000. There is also the SsangYong Musso XLV 4x4 diesel which is $33,000 - $41,000 depending on model (slightly better engine, more payload, slightly smaller tub than LDV mega tub).
@@davexb6595 I think that if Ford/GM/Ram decided to build their big trucks in RHD for RHD markets they would sell like crazy, especially for people who pull large trailers for a living. I would think that a Cummins Ram would do insanely good in AUS if it came factory RHD, the only issue I would see would be space. Here in the US, we have parking spots that were basically designed for large trucks, whereas in Australia and New Zealand I imagine it would be way too difficult to navigate a crew cab long bed dually around suburbs. After watching Ranger Raptor reviews and hearing how difficult it is to drive a vehicle the equivalent size of a toy truck to our mammoths in AUS and NZ, I can only imagine how bad parking our beasts there would be. I could see our trucks being mostly rigged out bush vehicles or just for highway towing use.
@@stephenvelden295 Yeah I believe they are converted by what used to be HSV, so if you have an already expensive vehicle and add a lot of reengineering to it, obviously it won't be cheap. How about this, you guys give us a few Maloos/HSV Commos and XR6's and we will give you guys a few of our giant land barges in RHD.
@@1spunkymonkey2 You are spot on. If Ford/GM/Ram decided to build their big trucks in RHD for RHD markets they would sell like crazy in Australia and some into NZ and South Africa. But part of that means getting the costs down and offering entry level options to build market share. Once they start producing more hybrids, that would only help them sell more. The main draw back is price here. Then there is parking space. Although that is less of an issue if you never take it to the inner city. Also remember that fuel is about 60+% more expensive in Australia and double the cost in NZ. That said, about half the tradesmen tow around a box trailer with their tools etc inside. This is because the "toy truck" (as you put it) or ute is not large enough. But if for slightly more they could have a reliable full size truck then it would actually be easier to park. Also note that caravans are extremely popular here. What I think you call a camper trailer. These seem to get larger and heavier every year. However the 4x4 ute (toy truck) maxes out at 3.5 tonne towing capacity and often in reality this is really 3.0 tonnes if you want any other cargo. So more and more caravans are close to the limit of what these utes can tow. If you could buy a full sized truck for not much more than a ute, then more and more caravan owners and horse owners would buy a full sized truck. Most manufactures have figured out how to make factory RHD versions for this market. Yet the US manufacturers can't be bothered or just can't figure it out.
So LDV have built a modern looking Ute that has all the issues of a 1970's Fiat made from Russian tractor steel.... Hmmmm Who would have thought that a cheap nasty Chinese car would be badly made and impossible to get warranty for ?? That's just bizarre... LOL #LDVRustcourtcase
Look if you can’t afford anything else sure go for it but if you can spend 40-45k just just a middle of the range ranger hilux or dmax until they are proven here no one is going to buy them
Can't get F150 in Australia. Except as custom import. So get "a Ford truck" means get a Ranger, which is $20,000 more than this thing yet has a smaller tub.
@@hawkermustang LDV - Leyland DAF Vans, was a British manufacturer. It was a merger between Leyland (British) and DAF (Dutch). LDV was sold to the Russian GAZ Group but after the recession of 2008 the intellectual property rights were sold to SAIC - which is Chinese. Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp. Now one of the largest auto makers in the world. SAIC also own the MG brand (British). I thought I read somewhere that SAIC is a big shareholder of GM. Buy one of these, thrash the bejesus out of it and ditch it once the 5 year warranty runs out, buy another one and flog that. All for about the price of ONE top spec hilux.
They’re probably not even that bad though. You could perhaps keep it for a long time. I mean the Koreans used to be the joke for cars and remember the “jap crap” period?
