The very first thing that always strikes me when I see this performance of Lea’s - how is this 15 years after the “On My Own” performance???
@ryanc5517
@ryanc5517 3 года назад
The “On My Own” performance, she played the role of Eponine for the 10 year anniversary concert for Les Mis. 15 years later, they had the 25th Anniversary Concert where she played the role of Fantine.

I have seen this show countless times, and never once realized (until this performance) that Fantine always had a locket. I only noticed it watching Lea. Like you said, she sells it.
@nowthen.4363
@nowthen.4363 3 года назад
She really does! I think most portrayals have the locket. But yes, not every actor makes it noticeable. I'm sure she thought, as an amazing actor, i've been told Fantine has this locket, now how can I make this work and find a reason for Fantine having it. We don't need to know, but the actor does. Brilliant xx

Your reviews are always great! We learned a lot about the intricacies and complexities of singing and theatre. And at the same time, entertained on your reactions. @christian - the way you raised your brows twice... and did you whispered “cheeky” as she was singing “then I was young and unafraid..”? Love it! 😉🥰 Suggesting another “Lea” Miserables reaction video. 😉 Fantine’s Arrest. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x7F86J3Zu64.html Especially the part of “you let your foreman send me away” and the emotions on “I never did no wrong”. I read the line "I dreamed that God would be forgiving" as not really asking to be forgiven but hoping that God would be merciful, kind and forgiving so she would not suffer or at least suffer less for her choices. Enjoy your analyses of these songs. The great thing about songs from musicals is the story held within and the depth of meaning. I suggested this before so I was glad to see you react to it! I'd like to suggest/request you guys to check out Jessie Mueller singing "She Used to be Mine" (but maybe not from the awards show bec I think that was a slightly shortened version?)
@nowthen.4363
@nowthen.4363 3 года назад
Hey!! Yeh that’s a good way of looking at it too. I guess we grow up seeing God as an all loving and merciful God. But she sees her life not going in a good direction and questions if God really is forgiving. If he was would she be where she is now. That’s also the beauty of musical theatre. It’s actors choice who to perceive the lyrics and also I guess an audiences own personal perception of that. I love her performance of ‘She used to be Mine’ Jessie Mueller is stunning! I’ll try and find a stage version. We’ve got a new voting system so I’ll eventually add it to there. X We’re also going live on Sunday 💙

Sorry I had to see this 6 months later. But then again, this is yet another great reaction , voice analysis, interpretation whatever music professionals call it. I’m just really enjoying watching you guys doing these reaction videos and watching your videos has become a part of my daily routine to put my self in a great mood. I’ve always wanted to watch all these stage plays in person and be able to understand deeply about what each character portrays and the message they want to convey through these songs. And to me, you guys are like my personal guide watching these music plays and giving me a breakdown of the performances and making me understand better even with the simplest gesture the singer is doing on stage; explaining why she did this and that… Thank you so much Beth and Christian. Stay awesome you guys! ❤️ from the Philippines 🇵🇭

I'm a huge fan of Lea and awed by her career. As for those three iconic Les Mis and Miss Saigon roles: Kim? Yes, I saw her as Kim on the final Broadway preview performance of Miss Saigon. Eva Noblezada was also wonderful as Kim years later but Lea has been the best Kim for me. Eponine? Not so much... I saw her twice during her stint on Broadway and she just didn't do it for me. I know I'm spitting into a tidal wave of Lea Love here. I also love Lea, but not as Eponine. As she did in the 10th anniversary performance, she overpowers 'On My Own,' rather than feeling it... I much prefer others, starting, of course, with the definitive Frances Ruffelle, who was Eponine. Fantine? I saw her just once live as Fantine on Broadway and she was much more convincing in that role than as Eponine. As I said, I'm a huge fan of Lea. Each to her or his own for preferences. Finally, Beth and Christian, if you ever read this, you two do a great job with your reactions... in this case and with 'On MY Own,' you're such fans of Lea that anything she does is tops for you. I'd be interested to see/hear you two do a comparison with others such as Stephanie Martin, Frances Ruffelle, Sutton Foster. Aside from that understandable perspective, your commentaries are excellent and truly appreciated, especially from a fan of Les Mis since the 1980s. Thank you!

I think I heard that inside Fantine's locket there is a lock of Cosette's hair, so she carries Cosette with her even if they're far away from each other. Maybe I'm wrong tho, but I think I heard it or read it somewhere, maybe in the original novel.

They know the story as well of the musical it's like I'm being taken inside the story because I feel it the way they explain the artist's portrayal of the character through her emotion, diction and stuffs that I never would have noticed if they didn't explain it. I was so taken by the performance because of how detailed their analysis is.
