The video you are reacting to may have been posted 12 years ago but it was the filming of a concert in 1995. Lea started in musical theater when she was 7 years old in the Philippines. She played her first lead role at age 9 (ANNIE) and released her first album at age 10 which certified gold. Lea hosted a musical tv show from ages 12-14. Throughout her childhood and teens she did theater, films, tv, concerts and albums. She became an international star when she originated the role of Kim in MISS SAIGON in London at age 18, on Broadway at age 20, and then won all the major theater awards for her performances. (She is often called "The Pride of the Philippines" because her success with MISS SAIGON put the Philippines on the map and brought attention to the amazing talent in the country.) She is the singing voice of two Disney princesses: Jasmine and Mulan. There are many, many more credits, but let's just say she has been working for over 43 years now (she just turned 50 earlier this year). Lea was the first Asian (and first person of color) to play Eponine in LES MISERABLES on Broadway in 1993. I believe she was the first person of color to play a lead role in LES MISERABLES on Broadway. Lea was asked to play Eponine in the LES MISERABLES 10th Anniversary Dream Cast concert in 1995 (which is where this video is from). Lea replaced as Fantine in the Broadway revival of LES MISERABLES in 2007 and then was part of the 25th Anniversary concert in 2010. Lea is the original Kim in the musical Miss Saigon in both London's West End debuting at the tender age of 18 (She's 50 now) then moving on to Broadway in New York. Her debut role won her the Laurence Olivier and Tony Awards, among others. She was then cast as Eponine in Les Miz where she became the first non-caucasian to play the role. She's likewise a Disney legend providing the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan. Her credentials just goes on and on. She's considered a national treasure and a living legend in the Philippines.

This video was from the 10th anniversary concert in the Royal Albert Hall in London, 1995, with a handpicked 'dream cast' from the show. This is widely regarded as the standard for 'On My Own.' Later on Lea played Fantine in Les Mis and came back to sing 'I Dreamed a Dream' in the 25th anniversary concert.

Lea (pronounced Lay-ah) is the pride of the Philippines. For me she along with Sierra Boggess are the greatest theater performers of this generation. Lea’s renditions if Les Mis, On My Own and I Dreamed a Dream are flawless, also Don’t Cry for me Argentina from Evita. A true treasure.

Hi Samantha, I just saw your reaction, loved it! I don't know if you're familiar with the story, but Lea is playing a girl who is in love with someone who only sees her as a friend. At the end of the show she jumps in front of him and takes a bullet, saving his life. He holds her in his arms as she is dying but she is happy that she can finally feel him holding her. I cry every time but it's beautiful, this is from the same concert performance as On My Own.
