League of Legends Bel'Veth Reaction - Cinematic, Champion Trailer and Theme 

You mention the eyes and mouth at her "midsection" a few times, but what I think you don't realize is that her "head" on top of her body is more akin to an anglerfish's lure than a real face, and that her "midsection" is her true face. This isn't a void-corrupted human like Kai'Sa - it's a pure void being, something completely alien that simply mimics the human form. You can tell by the way her face and body moves in the first cinematic, something about it is slightly off.

The first time I saw the Bel'veth trailer, I was instantly reminded of Pennywise from IT; the way her human guise is just a lure, an extension of a much bigger, nastier being... it's got "Deadlights" written all over it 😁

Don't play League but always enjoy their animated cinematics. I like the end you see she peels the girls armor to show that beneath the alien armor there's just a human inside, whereas the other character removes the mimicked human part to reveal a monster. I imagine the pretty face like a lure from a frogfish where it reels in someone before wrapping them inside the mantis ray-like wingspan to devour them like a venus flytrap.

I've posted this on several of the other reaction channels I follow for this one. This does take place after The Call, but not immediately. Kai'Sa was fighting Rek'Sai (the giant burrowing void monster) in a part of Shurima and this takes place in the Void in the area to the south where the city of Bel'Veth was before the Void got to it. Bel'Veth was originally a coastal city in the League world that was destroyed and literally devoured by the Void. Not only did the Void consume the city and all of the thousands of people in it, but a large portion of the surrounding ocean was also absorbed and consumed. And as result, the void took on elements and aspects of what it had consumed. Bel'Veth herself is a being of pure Void. She's basically a Lovecraftian horror. An avatar of another dimension that is trying to consume/destroy portions of our conventional existence and is on it's whole generally in defiance of our reality and our human senses level of comprehension. Bel'Veth the character is the physical embodiment of what was consumed by the Void (including a large portion of of the ocean and sea life surrounding the city). That is why that area "feels" like it is underwater and why her physical presence looks like a manta ray. That's not a cape, that is her fins/wings. Her "head" isn't real, and is akin to the lure of an angler fish. The eyes and mouth below is actually her "real" face. The "false" head is there to present a face that may be more enticing and acceptable to "normal" humanoid beings before she reveals her true self. It's why when she "speaks" in the cinematic, her mouth doesn't quite move properly to match what is being said. It's something truly alien and inhuman making an attempt to convey communication in the way it sees us communicate through the memories and essence of the humans it has consumed, but not quite pulling it off right. It adds so much to the "Uncanny Valley" effect for her and is 50000000% intentional. Much like her "legs" aren't actually legs, but more akin to the smaller fins on the lower bottom side of manta rays which they use for additional forward/rotational propulsion in the water. But when combined with her false "head" it adds to the illusion of her being at least somewhat humanoid and therefore more acceptable, comprehensible and palatable to human senses in our reality. The thing about Bel'Veth's theme, it gives that sense of almost being melodic and coherent, but underneath is this swirling foundation of chaos and discordant alien tones. It is intentionally "unnerving" to reflect how "other" the true nature of the Void itself to our limited human senses and levels of comprehension. It is just absolutely perfect for the champion.

Bel’Veth is supposed to look more like a stingray, hence the voidlings she spawns look like evil fish and the void having a bit of a “scary unknown creatures at the bottom of the ocean, we’re not supposed to be here” vibe the cinematic gives off. There’s also a really big void event suspected to be happening this year as well, to progress (and possibly wrap-up, but I doubt it) the story of the beings of Runeterra fighting the void and trying to seal it away forever

She's definitely a Keeper... in the Patrick Rothfuss sense. As a game desgner, I'm always fascinated by Riot's ability to take their characters to unexpected places despite the fact they often get criticized for being derivative as hell, and truth be told they are; there's LOL SaberWulf and LOL Scorpion and LOL Harley Quinn and LOL supergirl and LOL anime/manga [insert thing here] and you can tell where they came from no doubt... But Riot always integrates them into the world and the game in a really organic and natural way, it never seems that they're just copying the echo they came from in a shallow way. Most of the time the heros and villains feel like they were always there and should be, and in a way that people can really get into and get behind. Her theme is also straight fire.

You guys have got to react to more champion themes. If there’s one thing better than their Cinematics, it’s their Champion Themes. They always manage to get the essence of the champions and put them in their theme, it’s insane how consistently good they are.

A lot of Champion Themes are very atmospheric, like this one, but many of them have really great melodies, like Pantheon and Nunu and Willump! They might be worth a listen.

Riot ands their cinematics will NEVER disappoint! Also Bel'Veth's theme is just so good too! On par with Fiddlestick's theme in terms of creepiness Think there will be plenty of comments explaining this but. The pretty head is fake. It's the same concept as an angler fish where it lures in prey with something pretty. The big mouth and eyes on her shoulder are part of her real face. She's basically a big manta ray/ angler fish. Which if I remember correctly is because as a void spawn she lived under water for a long time consuming ocean creatures, slowly turning into a more sea like appearance. Then later when she and her spawn devoured the city she got more humanoid features too. (like the head). It basically all to lure in prey and consume them to spread her void-ness.. Also she's no longer a part of the main void that plagues Runterra. She controls her own sub faction which is cool

Fun fact, after the Cinematic bel veth grew like 20x the size she was in Cinematic,they had conversation about kaisa joining her against the watchers, she wasnt too fond of the idea, after she took control of her "suit" Back she striked her with everything she had, and did nothing at all, then bel'veth slapped her back to the surface

yes, it was a continuation of the last trailer. Bel´Veth is a new faction out of the VOid. While the Watcher try to annihlate everything to have their peace, Bel´Veth wants to consume everything to reform it in her own creation. She only has that humanlike head, because she consumed soo many humans, all that emotion and human intelligents literally made her human form. If u look closly in the cinematic, while she talks her lips dont synch with the words comming out, that because she dosent need it to talk so she immaditate how humans talk. same goes for how she "walks". Notice she is actually floating not walking, but yet she moves her "hipes" to immaditate how humans walk. As she said, she isnt some mindless creatue, she actually, cares about her name, has unlike most void creatue goals and unlike any other void creature, she is completly independet form the Watchers and does what she thinks is in her advantage

Bel'Veth is a monster imitating a human, keyword: "Imitate", she sways side to side as if she was walking but she has no feet, her lips moved but the words that came out didn't match her lips as if that's not where the sound actually came from. It's safe to say that Riot really nailed her design, they gave the community the monster that everyone was asking for while also pleasuring themselves by also giving her the "sexy hot girl look" that they want in order to sell future skins. It's a win for everyone involved.

Bel'Veth's design is inspired by sting rays and angler fish.

If you look closely, you notice that Bel'Veths mouth is not synced with what she says. That's because she doesn't know how humans talk and she doesn't need that mouth to talk, she tries to imitate it, but it isn't perfect. Same with her walking, which is just her swaying from left to right.

I never thought of getting scared of a “Sting Ray” champion that make me super scared on what LOL might carry in future villains out there. 😬 also was it attentional of matching the clothing colors with the video or just a fashion sense?

A void version of an anglerfish that makes its lure look like a human face to lure its prey. Even to the extent that it tries to lip sync the words even though the "face" is not actually speaking. This plays on the human nature to attempt to see a human face even in the most unfamiliar of situations. Nice art directing here.

I would like to mention that some champions have amazing themes. Bel'Veth one fits the character quite well but I wouldnt listen this theme in my free time , on the other side some champion themes are absolute master pieces and I got them actually in my playlist.

her atk animation feels a bit janky... i think the animation iself isnt fast enough to keep up with her attack speed, so she is constantly doing animation canceling in her attacks, and the fact that the animations is a wide swipe definitely doesn't help
