I really don't get why this is news. It has always been the case that private businesses investment covers a lot of the cost of net zero, how do they think windfarms are paid for, for example? Or how solar panels are made? A company makes them. It would be silly to point to that company and say their business is a cost to the taxpayer.

Wind farms get part funded through additional taxes such as the green energy levy that is put on all our bills and by the fact that every Kilowatt of Wind energy is charged as though it was produced by the most expensive fossil fuel. So the full cost isn't absorbed by the private sector it's just put back on customers indirectly. No doubt the full cost of any Net Zero actions will be paid for by customers eventually not the private sector. Just more 'smoke & mirrors'

A private company makes them because government legislates that they do. The government encourages them by giving them subsidies that are paid for by adding the costs to our energy bills. We pay for it, that’s why it’s news

Government subsidies is our tax money. Private companies won't invest without ridiculous long term price promises and those subsidies. Wind and solar is more expensive without the subsidies and needs fossil fuel backup for when there ain't no sun and wind. Net zero is disastrous, when will people wake up to this?

@@realityalwaysbulliesopinio1961 We know we subsidise green energy, as I explained above. This has always been the case. That is not the same as suggesting the government, and tax payer, are on the hook for the whole thing which is the implication from the Tory attacks. To point to the "hundreds of billions" quote and say "we pay for it" because some of it involves government subsidy or tax breaks is to, at best, misunderstand what you are reading.

I live in rural Lincolnshire many in my area are on living wage £12-£13 an hour. A car is essential because there are no buses & shops etc are 6 miles away. All the people promoting net zero never mention at some point that all these low paid people will have to find £25,000 for an elec car & heat pump.

The government legislates that manufacturers make products they want, they offer subsidies to do that. The manufacturer makes the products because they are being paid to. If the private company gets money from the government, where does the government get the money? Taxes and additional costs to energy bills.

Starmer has NOT ruled out increasing inheritance tax, make NO mistake he will Rob 40% from your house via inheritance tax (so if your house is worth £400,000 your children will ONLY receive £240,00.)

I'm sorry, why should my children not pay tax on money they've not earned? I'm the one who earned the money (which I would've paid tax for). If anything, inheritence tax should go up and ofset income tax.

Going green will obviously cost more to all of us financially, compare that to the cost in humanitarian aid. To the Gammons out there, if we treat the environment more kindly & reverse climate change, the less “illegals” will have to come here, leaving their own homes 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

The investment cost of any long term plans is going to be huge for every country - but not all money down the drain as it generates many jobs and services which drive GDP and increase tax revenue. The 100s of billion figure is projected overall investment all the way to 2050.
