Looks a lot like the coax connector wrapping tape. Nice quick fix. Something like Shark bite fittings might work as well. 73

If there are water pipes, it is not a Furness you have, it is a Boiler. Boiler heat water that heats radiators, that in turn heat air. A Furness heats the air directly.

I had a pisser once on the heating circuit. Luckily I caught it before any damage. I always have a look in the cellar most days. We have a semi finished cellar, and a leak in the finished portion would be a bad experience.

Do you have well water? It seems like houses with well water have more pin hole leakes in copper lines then city water. That looks to be the supply pipe for the domestic hot water coil in the boiler

Your biggest mistake was not cutting the pipe out so you could turn it into a 70cm antenna……..
