Maybe you're distracted by the arpeggios, but ms Mitchell is off tune several times in this song, and so she is in other ones. On the other hand, ms Aguilera has never once used playback, and you can count her errors with the fingers of a single hand in any show she participated in. Use your ears if you're gonna talk about technical matters, not your amygdala. If you're saying ms Mitchell better conveys to you the feeling of a particular song or many songs, then i can't argue with that - of course it's not what you were saying.

You forget that this song wasn't originally sang by Christina and both Christina and Leanne performed their own unique renditions. Christina has the tendency to force her high notes and sing with improper placement of the larynx thus at times it sounds like she is screaming especially when she tries to tackle the whistle register. I agree though that she has an amazing voice, I'm not disputing her capabilities or talent, indeed there are a lot of songs I like all I am trying to say is I much prefer this version to Aguilera's.
