Thank you so much. When I saw you uploaded another one I was so happy. These seriously are the best lessons on RU-vid. The fact that you are doing it for free is unbelievable. The way you coordinate each lesson to build on one another is so much easier and intuitive to learn, and slowing down with pauses so I have time to give each phrase a shot really helps. Most other videos just spam random phrases that have nothing to do with each other so I can’t even really tell what each individual word is. This method you’ve been adding to your videos is just the best. I actually have faith that I’ll be able to speak with my family in Brazil now, you’re the man! God bless

So happy to hear that the videos are helping you. Yes, there's a reason you don't really see series of videos on RU-vid that progressively build on one another in a logical, coherent way--creating them is a lot harder than just making a stand alone video. It has to be carefully thought out and it only gets harder the further in the series you get. That said, I think something like this needed to exist on RU-vid (even if it's a relatively short series), which is why I felt compelled to make it. If the videos continue to perform well, I would love to go up to lesson 10, but for now I will take it one video at a time. Thank you for your comments...they mean a lot to me!

It's interesting that in the "linguagem coloquial," the tendency is to say... Esse filme (with "i" on the end). In short, most Brazilians would say... Ele e ela (Êle i éla) Three "e" sounds!

@@DecodingWordswithAndrew ps: I’m very much guilty of making direct translations in English I know that i should not but it’s hard to shake off) question I have using a simple example “can I have a beer, please” is the correct way to ask a waiter “eu quero uma cerveja por favor” ie I want a beer please or “posso ter uma cerveja por favor” ie can I have a beer please?
@DecodingWordswithAndrew
@DecodingWordswithAndrew Месяц назад
The best translation for "Can I have....please?" would be "Me vê.....por favor?" I talk about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kb_06G-0gAg.html
@DecodingWordswithAndrew
@DecodingWordswithAndrew Месяц назад
This is a case where the word-for-word translation "Posso ter....?" would not work. I actually made a short about it: ru-vid.comX8h-vP8MQ3I?feature=share

Super helpful thank you! Could you please explain the 'quis' following "sempre" ? 😊
@DecodingWordswithAndrew
@DecodingWordswithAndrew Месяц назад
Glad you found it helpful, Stephanie! "quis" is in the past tense (specifically the preterite tense) of the verb "querer" (to want). If you'd like to go more in-depth with how verb conjugations in Portuguese work, you can check out this tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mii9OopUePg.html

When saying I like something it's always with a de before the subject but when I say I want something it's not in there, the de .... Por que?
@DecodingWordswithAndrew
@DecodingWordswithAndrew 29 дней назад
The verb "gostar" (to like) is a verb that requires the "de"...only a very small group of verbs require the "'de"...most don't.
@erictrzaska5771
@erictrzaska5771 29 дней назад
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew is there a specific reason or just because? 😂. Thank you
@DecodingWordswithAndrew
@DecodingWordswithAndrew 29 дней назад
that's just the way the language works...some verbs like "gostar" will always need to go along with a preposition like "de". Others require "a", as with "começar" (começar a...). You'll just have to learn as you go which verbs require a preposition.
@erictrzaska5771
@erictrzaska5771 29 дней назад
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew you are correct. That is just how the language works. I ask my wife and she has no idea why. It just is
@DecodingWordswithAndrew
@DecodingWordswithAndrew 29 дней назад
@@erictrzaska5771 yeah, it’s like asking an English speaker why we say “to rely ON”, “to participate IN”, or “to depend ON”. An English learner would just need to learn the prepositions that go along with each verb.
