After about a year of making mistakes and learning I now have my dominant aggressive male dog walking with a group of 10+ dogs at a time on a doggy walk service. And I have to thank this channel for it, at least 80% of what I use comes from this channel. Please realize the free dog training you can get from this channel and please keep investing in your dog. I have been through it all with my dog and he changed my life on a very deep level. Wow! I have a question about neutering and walking a pack of dogs! I'm afraid that one dog will trigger a fight, I've been bit multiple times breaking up fights that I believe my dog starts. Im afraid of putting my dog with other dominant male dogs, but I'm aware that he deserves a rich social life. Any advice?

The creepy dude at night scenario actually happened to me - but the creepy dude was my boyfriend. I was fostering a young pit and we had to go outside. He was meeting my boyfriend for the first time and my BF decided to wait for us outside. The BF was in an alcove - I couldn’t see him - and came out of nowhere. My normally chill little dude was not amused at all. But TBH if it had been an unknown creepy dude on our dark nighttime walk - it was an appropriate reaction. Lesson learned. 🤦🏻♀️
I found your videos last Monday and even though I can tell it's going to be a long road with my dog, I can absolutely say I am starting to see minor improvements and am more confident in introducing my dog to other pups now that I have tools to control the situation. I have spent way too much money in the past for a trainer to tell me to build an obstacle course in my backyard to exercise my dog properly and you have given me the best information for free. It is a long road with some dogs, but my very strong, highly reactive rescue dog with anxiety, a Staffy Boxer cross, has come a long way after I started using Beckman's techniques, especially the 'Lead Pop' one.

I think the point you made about being militant and then easing off is the BIGGEST thing that people don't understand. You teach discipline and respect by being on top of everything and not letting them get away with anything so they learn to make good decisions. Once they can make good decisions, they get the privileges.

I've been learning so much from your videos I can't believe. We started our HIGHLY leash reactive and very aggressive pit bull mix with the gentle leader for walking. It's just a few days now but after continually correcting him when he gets near dogs (who are behind fences) he is getting better. And he's walking on a loose leash. This is a massive improvement for us.
That's great to hear! Pit bull's and other bully breeds are lovely animals, but they're so strong that most owners give up when the dog starts pushing boundaries.
The big white dog is like “stop being an ass so we can play”. Despite the snappings the little dog tried on the big dog, the big dog was still play bowing.

I like how he proved my point. Most people try to argue with me over my husky not being overweight a malamute mix. They think all huskies are huge and they usually don't know what a maly is. They think female huskies are supposed to huge. That's not the case . They are smaller and very lean.
I just adopted my second Pittie and she is so different from my male. Way more assertive and shows aggressive behaviors I’m not used to. I’m having to figure out a different way to train her and this helps so much! Thank you!
This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for for 2 years, but haven’t found help with till seeing THIS THANK YOU THIS helps me with my 2 1/2 yo black GSD. I’m a senior (68) now & she is teaching me so much. I thought I already knew, but had no idea I didn’t. l’m never giving up on this dog even with her - Dramatic separation ANXIETY, controlled epilepsy(med), rescue puppy, & elite ESCAPE ARTIST - 1 root canal & an almost broken nose, & also the only runner!! BOLTER .. She’s a life style commitment, no more board & trains, ever, or $$ I don’t have for private training on a fixed income … Must train together w/others & dogs, or she’s perfect while there & falls apart with ME. I didn’t have to leave her & go back to work or take care of others & it’s still so challenging, I almost can’t do it & I have 41+ yrs of having GSD companions We’re sitting in the car together currently at the dog park, patiently, GOAL - GET OUT of the car, calmly, until we can walk AROUND THE OUTSIDE of the dog park, on the sidewalk, not at the fence … set up for success at our ages The lack of meeting any other dogs since she was 7 months old means she actually doesn’t KNOW HOW TO MEET ANOTHER DOG WITH THE CORRECT ATTITUDE, BODY LANGUAGE, & CALM REACTION she doesn’t know, but I THINK SHE CAN DO IT by age 4 😅 This training is needed for so many in the same boat from that time who got puppies for the 1st time during that time. It’s why, I believe, people are surrendering their companions from the last 2 yrs at record rates. If she had been my 1st GSD, instead of my 5th, I would not have had 4 more. It would be too much. I will work tirelessly to get her to her best place. Not one group class has let us train with other dogs .. “she’s too much dog for you” “NO” etc etc … I trained my 4th Shepherd to be my mobility service dog & he went on airplanes with me. She’s had many private lessons, training, even a nightmare 2 wk board & train .. because of not getting to train APPROPRIATELY WITH OTHER DOGS .. my last black GSD was like Prince, he never met a dog, (cat, rabbit, horse) he didn’t love She’s an “isolation” puppy .. I really enjoy your videos and the fact that you show your methods with untrained dogs. I would love to see a video about dogs and kids (kids playing with a ball/toy and the dog trying to get the kids toy and getting all too excited.)Our dog also doesn’t bark or growl at kids but she gets very excited around small children and she has very high energy. We adopted her (Rotti) with 7 months and we think she never got exposed to children or actually anything at all. She has gotten so much better with everything except for the excitement that comes up with children running around. We are also working with a trainer to get her used to children and it is not really working. She is 16 months now and we really want her to be able to be around children without getting into that high energy level. She is great with other dogs and adults. We dont have children so we „practice“ whenever we get the chance from a safe distance and on leash but we don’t know what else we can do right now. Would really appreciate the help. I've trained dogs as a novice with a very basic understanding of how to train them. Rewards for doing what you want them to do and punishments for bad behavior. Making sure the dog has no doubt that I'm the boss. There have been some situations that (as a last resort) I've considered smacking a dog's upper rear quarter to correct bad behavior. I've never been comfortable with that idea because I want them to always feel safe with me and not have a fear of getting smacked. It's just never sat well with me, but I knew that punishment is necessary sometimes. Your approaches to corrections have really enhanced my understanding of dogs as well as given me a whole new angle to consider in corrective options so that the dog is obedient based upon him/her not wanting to endure unwanted consequences of it's bad behavior, without having to resort to methods of physical pain. That is one of my favorite things about your training methods. Are there any times that you have found a smack on the hiney to be helpful?
Thank you for these videos. I joined a train your own service dog group who only uses positive reinforcement training and big surprise, many, even most dogs are flunking out of training. Teaching a dog boundaries etc is essential to a happy and healthy dog. There is a fine line between correction and abuse, and overuse of correction without use of positive reinforcement and praise especially, could even be considered abuse, but I 100% disagree that correction that doesn't hurt and isn't yelling and is balanced with positive reinforcement is abuse. It's no wonder that the local shelter here is filled with adolescent huskies and shepherds. An example of what is not abuse: Crowley has a problem where he gets mad that he has a leash on. Especially at night when he's tired, infact it's mostly at night. He barks and growls at the leash, actually gets mean about it and even has snapped at me. And if you heard it you would be shocked its coming from a puppy. The minute he acts that way, I say no in a firm but even tone and pick him up and take him inside. That is not acceptable behavior. Now that it's happened a few times I can give my warning which is eh-eh-eh and he has a chance to stop or he's going inside, which he usually does. I'm not mean. I don't yell at him. I just don't accept that behavior. The new accepted training method is to ignore that behavior or redirect. Redirecting in this scenario is actually a reward for bad behavior. Ignoring let's him know that behavior is ok. A behavior that could turn into true aggression if not addressed, and has some Aggression to it already. The way I do it is considered abuse lol. Even things like "no bite" are no longer acceptable. It's insane. I'm shocked pet smart is even letting you do this.
Naw huskies are alpha dogs from their tymir wolf heritage. I spelled that wrong I'm sure but yeah. They approach any dog with the same energy. But I step in when I know a dog is talking shit to my husky. Her hair goes up across her back. But huskies end up in shelters because the owners are weak and they only wanted a fluffy wolf like dog but don't have the will to train or teach them how to behave and take orders. Unlike wolves huskies will be friendly with almost anybody. But barking dogs often get slapped by huskies. They don't. Like yapping In their face. They are very smart and that makes them head strong. If they don't see you ass the leader than it's their way or no way. Husky has to have a clear leader they can easily faulter on you if otherwise..
This is wonderful! I have a service dog who is just like Prince. He is very friendly to other dogs (NOT in a “oh he’s friendly” as he rushes another dog sort of way). He will tolerate them but doesn’t stand for rude behavior. I had a woman bring a pet dog into a store one time while I was there with my service dog. She, of course, brought her pet over to my working dog. I tried to say no and she pushed herself on us. Sure enough, her dog gets in my dog’s face then decides to jump up and put it’s paws on my dog’s head. My SD rightfully barked and gave a warning snap (no contact) to back the hell off. And this lady had the audacity to say my dog was poorly behaved! I wish more people cared about dog behavior and body language… and public access laws. It’s not acceptable to greet another dog by jumping on them. It’s rude for them. Maybe even frightening. Same goes for the sort of people who let their dogs bum rush others because “he’s friendly!” Doesn’t matter. That’s NOT an appropriate greeting.

I've been watching your videos for ages and have followed your pattern for my two collies and it was great worked a treat .. But the last few weeks the dogs cannot be in same room, can't face each other in their crates without wanting to rip each others head off.. Tried everything any advice please, desperate.?!?

Going to have to try a gentle leader. My dog was good with a muzzle but then she had a freak out over reactivity and got her jaw stuck underneath one of the Baskerville muzzles. Thought she was gunna hurt herself. Gave it another shot a couple weeks later a bit tighter and it happened again.
Hi can you do a video on helping a dog( I have a female 20 month old husky) that has kennel aggression but mostly if she knows she’s done something she should not have. She has recently nipped at my girls and not a full bite but has broken the skin w a couple small puncture marks. The last incident was because she ran into my daughters room( normally all doors are kept closed but she walked out for a sec and back in to catch the dog running out w a q-tip in her mouth) she grabbed the q-tip and ran straight to her kennel. I heard her growl bark and she nipped very quickly at my daughter who was trying to retrieve the Q-tip. She seemed to get this way over her kennel in her last cycle. So about 7 mos of this. She’s gotten better because I’ve been trying to work w her ( she used to growl if we gave her a treat as a reward for getting in the kennel and you tried to pet her while her treat was still there) I can now pet her and rub her mouth ect while her treats are in there but we can’t have her biting my kids or anyone if they are trying to retrieve something from her she shouldn’t have. If she’s done something she shouldn’t have ( like rip up paper or peed in my sons room, yes the only room she does this) and we come around she runs to her kennel and acts aggressive. When she’s acting this way I will lift up on the back of the kennel til she comes out and close the cage door and then retrieve the item but she shouldn’t be acting this way. Even if she thinks she’s in trouble and isn’t or will get yelled at she does this. She’s a sweet sole otherwise and my husband is ready to resolve the issue in other more permanent ways if I can’t fix this. Help!! I know she’s a sweet girl you can see it in her eyes Just something is going on
Ive currently started seeing a man that has took in a (rescue) Samoyed about 2 years ago, from a family member who’s spouse was ... uhm.. basically physically semi-abusive (i.e. relied on negative and positive punishment only, but might have been worse) He is terribly afraid of most men, and some people in general, but will have excited(non-aggressive) dog reactivity. As I dogsit him while my boyfriend is at work, Ive been looking for distractionary techniques and how to “format” the re-training process. Dog parks are not going to really work the best for his breed so I have to socialize him as we go and assess his behavior. Ive started to master being able to keep him at heel with me on walks, without too much effort, but getting him to not focus on other dogs then pull on the leash a bit is my next task. The leg/butt technique you showcased would work wonderfully!
Question: I Just got a 9 week old doberman last week. (10 weeks as of this past Sunday). I’ve been using your methods to teach him different commands. I’ve been training him to learn his name and Now when I bring him around my family , while he is in his crate sometimes, they repetitively call his name to get his attention. Are they tainting or ruining the process of him learning his own name? Should I be concerned ? Or are they in essence helping him learn his name?
I like your videos. I recently got another dog. Both were got during the pandemic they have not been around other dogs. They both have bitten. If one is in the kennel and the other one is out they go ballistic you would think they are going to kill each other. I am 63 and can't walk or stand very much. So I am trying to get them used to each other. I ha e gotten to the point that I can put them outside with muzzles and e collars. In the last 2 days I have been able to take the muzzles off in the house where I can grab them if it goes side ways. They play aggressive play fighting but with teeth. One is a gsd and the other is a border collies. Do you have any suggestions. I live in texas I called a trainer and they want 4000.00 per dog. Can't afford that. I have been trying to get them to be friends. And then work on some of the things in your videos.
Hey I’ve got an interesting one for you. I adopted a German Shepard a few months ago (1.5 yr old) and he is a great dog. For some reason when he plays with other dogs he incessantly smells them and then when they try to check him he thinks they’re playing. After this he continue to makes them mad until they chase him around. I haven’t found a video on your channel that addresses this and I was wondering if you had any tips.
So the poodle at the end is like my dog Barks like a crazy girl on leash. I’m always trying to get her to stop. Same scenario where I let her sniff at a dog on other side of fence and other dog went crazy. She was fine with other dogs before and then very reactive after. Thank you
My 14 month old Labrador has started growling at children (particularly my youngest son) and I have no idea why. My children have never hurt my dog and they are respectful towards him. They often help me with training and will offer him treats. He's always been a timid boy, but he's gotten so much better with socialization & daily walks. Any advice? We've had him since he was 8 weeks old.
Have a 10mo dutch/Belgian shepherd who is reactive like the poodle (x?) At the end. It's 100% fear/ lack of confidence. Finally met a "good dog" which we were able to go on a walk with. My pup elected not to say hi, but stopped reacting to other dog. Little confused on how long/letting barking to continue as seems to be a bit of contradiction
We used to have farm dogs Golden Retrievers that lived outside and really enjoyed hunting with us in the woods when we were kids. If we ever shot any game like a squirrel or rabbit for example, the dog would instinctively grab it and if it was a rabbit or dove they would just eat it... if it was a squirrel or something larger they would often rub their face and sides of their neck on it and then go carry it off somewhere and bury it. I wonder for what reason do dogs rub certain scents on themselves. In this case it was the scent of the dead animals we had shot... And do they bury the prey so they have something to dig up later and eat?? just curious 🤔
How do I give a correction on my dog's aggressive behavior when he is 140 lbs? I am 100 lbs. I have the prong collar on him, but should I try the e-collar as a correction? I can do what you did in this video because he weighs too much and I would lose control of the situation.
How do you deal with a very fearful toy dog who just wants to run away from everything? One of my Italian Greyhounds is like this, but her sister is calm and friendly. The only place they can meet other dogs is at the dog park, but I am afraid to bring them there because there are many large dogs there who run around uncontrolled.

Joel how do I get my great dane mix to stand up? I have the opposite problem of lay down. I can get him to “stand up” (eventually) with clapping my hands and saying “come on” but that just gets him from lying down to SITTING up. He constantly sinks (esp during his bath) and doesn’t like standing I guess. (He will stay standing if he is in 1 spot on the leash or going potty.) Off leash, he’s glued to the floor. Ever since he was a puppy (he’s 2 now), he has always been MAGNETIZED TO THE FLOOR. How do I get him up? I tell him all the time while I’m struggling pulling up on him to “stand up fir yourself” (lol) but he just says No. Please see this request & please help us! Love what you do! Take care…
Maybe taking your dog to the vet to check its spine health & appropriate weight will be a good start. If you feed your dog kibble, perhaps needs some meat & bones. Good luck!

He just….if you’ve ever seen the movie “The Ugly Dachshund”, he’s like that - he’s like Brutus when he’s crawling around like a dachshund. He HOPS 1 good little hop toward me if i take a simple step backward just so he can stay next to me (while he’s already in a sitted position) so now picture a great dane with big bunny feet lol. Idk he just…he refuses to stand up. He prefers ground hugs and cuddles but sometimes i want to stand up and pet him but he sinks every time to say nothing of his baths (!) and … danes are heavy 👀. His name is Squeakers btw❤
What is the best approach to dealing with serious human aggression (history of biting)? We have our dog muzzle trained- but he 'acts' more aggressive with the muzzle to try and scare people. He's a middle eastern street dog, likely beaten in the streets before someone brought him to the shelter. Loved people prior to my adopting him, then suddenly a switch flipped and he started biting everyone except me/my boyfriend. He will not accept people in the home and repeatedly tries to bite people who come within five or six feet of him. Also has a serious resource guarding problem that we've made some progress on. Right now he wears a muzzle when other people are around and we don't let him get within 6 feet of them. Is that the best we'll ever get from him?
Joel could say that I have a perfect dog as well after a meeting with ONE other individual. There is so much chemistry involved. He is intact, and some of this absolutely best friends are intact males. Right off the bat. But some individuals he just feels the need to attack, and I don’t know why. Even if the other dog is not even looking at him, sniffing the grass, or laying on its back. I think he is quite nervous in reality, and the other dogs state is mind and stability really affects him.

Does anyone know if there is a Joel in the UK? I have a reactive 18 month old Rottie. He is over friendly, doesn't listen and 55kg. Out of control with other dogs. He's on a head collar, and I've seen so much improvement since watching these videos (he's been to classes for the last year and had a personal trainer for 6 months...all positive trainers only. Added to this, he's just had TPLO surgery and 10 weeks on, is still limping and swollen (vet hasn't done another x-ray yet saying he's big and young and bouncy, so all that might be hindering the healing process). However, it's just making meeting and greeting so much harder as well as worrying about his leg! (I'm pushing for an x-ray next week by the way.)
I need some help... i have a 5 momth old red heeler puppy. Adopted her at 10 weeks old. She has been in a car every day 8-10 times a day since i adopted her and she still hates cars. Absolutley loses her shit when we start driving... im dissapointed because i wanted to take her with me in my work truck every day but I dont want her stressed out in a vehicle she doesnt like 12+ hrs a day. What can i do?

Some dogs just don't like other dogs, just as people can be anti social. He's fairly young so he could just be fearful n needs to see other people n dogs from afar with postitive associations. He could be protective of you or his home depending on how the interactions start, which you can walk him away every time he starts acting up, letting him check things out on a leash when he's chill or paying attention to you until you're comfortable doing that with multiple people. Since Jack's are small try to let him meet either an older dog who won't jump on him or a smaller dog so the interaction is less intimidating.
Em-Lou. My girl is reactive too. You must get their attention, all the time. Then you are the boss. When you have a problem, don’t accept it, find a solution. There’s always a solution if you think about it seriously.
Go back to his awesome reactivity videos from the last 18 months. He has some on Terriers, and all types of reactivity. Identify the reason for the reactivity first, then you'll have a better idea which of his methods may be most effective. Also, check out Larry Krohn on RU-vid, 80%++ is adjustments make within the home and humans. Start with the foundation, then cater your criteria for your dog's personality and breed 🙃
