Ryan, Have a question?? Watching you do a pull off I see no real hard pulling action in your technique. Mark Smith had a video showing how to do a pull off and he literally yanks on the string and talks about how you need to do that in order to get the pulled off note to ring properly. For me trying to pull that hard on the E string or A string and get that clean tone may never happen but lifting off the string works well. The tone is weaker then the first note but its there nice and clean. Maybe with more practice it my happen easier. Can you comment on how technically you actually do the pull off? Are you so versed in playing you mange a hard pull and its not noticeable? ( By the way, you are very very versed in your technique)

This is a good question! I personally don’t believe you need a lot of “pulling pressure” to get the note to ring out, but it does depend on each individual’s playing style as well as the set up of the bass. If the bass has lower action and needs less pressure in general, then you don’t need to hammer on or pull off very hard. If the action is higher, you will likely need a bit more force. The best thing to do is to practice the technique with the goal of good tone, a clear sounding note, and no more pressure than what is needed. I hope that helps!
