Thank you for including the mistakes, either real on purpose, because it’s a learning tool for us to be aware of easy mistakes anyone can make

Thanks Sandi. That was a genuine mistake. I even double checked before putting the cuff on so that wouldn't happen. I think I over thought it🤣

People who don't sew, have no idea how tricky a job like that is. At least when you do as professional a job as you have. Beautiful work, Christine!

You're right Jas. I laugh when they come in and tell me it's an easy fix..... Until I ask them why they're not doing it themselves🤣

I loved watching this, Christine! I hate trying to alter clothing. But your video and especially your tip of deconstructing and reconstructing a thrift store piece of clothing is such a practical, brilliant idea! Thank you for being so generous with your expertise.

I totally agree with you. I only do alterations for family. I hate them (alterations not the family). Even my husband knows that if anyone asks him do I do any alterations, he says NO...lol I do the same sort of things with work shirt collars that are worn, there usually perfect on the other side. I just stitch up the buttonhole and sew a button on top and make button hole on the other side.. no one will notice its on the wrong side lol. Thanks Christine, your a treasure! 😊

haha, Chris and I had a good laugh that you needed to explain that you hated (alterations not the family). I had to reverse a couple of worn collars for a customer recently (her idea), I'd never considered that before. I thought it was brilliant!😊

Oh thank you Christine! I've sewn all my (long) life, but have shied away from shortening my sleeves. You've shown me that it's doable, especially not fussing with those plackets. And it looks great! You're the best!

Boy, that takes me back. My first alteration job 40+ years ago was a woman who had 2 blouses to shorten the sleeves. I was scared out of my wits but did them for her, she liked them, and gave me 16 more (both hers and her husbands) to do. Got my feet wet really quickly. Worked for several men's wear stores after that, mmm. Also agree, alterations is the best teacher and take your time doing only one side at a time so you always have a reference. Another good, useful video Christine.😃

Thanks Judi. Even now, I'm always hesitant when I get these jobs, and as you saw, I still make sill mistakes. I find it the best way to learn though😀

Patience, it takes patience to do alterations! Great job and another video that explains things so well. I gave up doing alterations years ago when a customer actually wanted me to take in her side seams 1/4 of an inch after the bodice had been reattached and she liked the way it fit. Yep..that was it.

Funny you should say that Ali. I have absolutely no patience at all, except when I sew🤣

Clever girl! I hate doing alterations. I’ll only do them for me these days. But I learnt a lot. Since losing so much weight about ten sizes it is easier to buy new clothes. I love the way you teach us how and why you do things. Please keep teaching us.😊

This may be ‘too frugal’ for most of your viewers, but my English seamstress mother would turn the collar of my father’s shirts if the edge that rubbed against the back of his neck would get a little worse for wear. It’s very similar to when you put the cuff on backwards. A collar’s underside gets no wear at all so to have a ‘new’ collar, just unpick, turn it round, and reattach. It’ll last a good while longer and make your money stretch!
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 10 месяцев назад
I think it's very sensible Pamela. I actually had to turn the collars for a customer some months back. Until she came in, I didn't even know it was a "thing"🙂
