Take an in-depth look at the tools and creative possibilities of Live’s Session View. Watch the entire Learn Live series here: bit.ly/37lA63p #abletonlive #learnlive #live11
Session view is fun but you can’t drop in little samples to play at exact places, e.g. play some audio on the 5th of an 8 bar loop. You can but you’d have to fiddle with loop markers and listen thru. This is why arrangement view is still best for composing in my view.
Right, you could put a MIDI note far along on the 5th bar (or w/e/) and then hold shift and select all clips in the session view so that it links all their transport. (This works with MIDI clips anyway, I think audio too)@@garbageland1
I wish that when you record to arranger view, it would carry over the names of the scenes in the form of markers automatically. So I can get a sense for intro, verse etc.
Hi, thanks for the idea! You can find out how to best submit feature requests to us by looking at this article: bit.ly/3Cu3KCX. You can also contact our Technical Support Team and let them know about your feature wishes here: bit.ly/3ZplhGq. Thank you!
You can hear the live piano crackling being recorded with monitoring on. I get that all the time when recording in a mix. is there any way around that? increased the buffer size to max and still the same. Have m1 chip so not a bad cpu.
Hi there - The feature you're looking for is called "Fixed length recording" and there are a few different ways it can be done. The best thing to do for help with how to do certain things in the software is to get in touch with an Ableton Certified Trainer: bit.ly/42La0Sx They can point you in the right direction. Thanks - Ableton
Hi there! You are able to select the elements in the Session view, drag them and press the 'tab' key to take them over to the Arrangement view. You can also check this video for more detailed instructions and other ways to do this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OaQpybm5Pcw.htmlNTg0NTYyMA%3D%3D&
Why is it that I can play guitar like a master and other instruments intermediately but this stuff gives me a headache. Well it's mostly the music it's making when I play with it that's giving me the headache lol. Trying to learn it all DAW a bit too late!
Trust me it was way easier to learn and more pleasing to the eye prior to versions 10 and 11. 8 was the best, and at the time the number one daw for EDM music.
How do you edit in session view when say recording a guitar clip? There is that slight overlap from finishing the chord to stopping the recording. How do I edit that out?
Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. Click on the clip to display it in the clip view at the bottom of the screen. Then you can drag and drop the clip loop end marker, the small left-facing triangle at the top of the clip view, to change where the clip's playback will end. For more help or other usability questions, we recommend reaching out to an Ableton Certified Trainer!: bit.ly/4bHDC7z Thanks - Ableton
Hi Samm. Thanks for the comment. If you expand the column where you would previously have put that info, you'll see that there are now columns just for putting tempo information in directly. Thanks - Ableton
I still don’t see the benefit vs just working in arrangement view right away. The main benefit I hear is that you can mess around without committing to something, but you can also do that just as easily in arrangement view? 😅
Hi there. There isn't a way to do that using the default Live settings and devices. However, there is likely a way to set something like that up using a Max for Live device or even some kind of user script. For help with that type of in-depth work, we recommend getting in touch with a certified Ableton trainer. www.ableton.com/en/certified-training/?NTcyNDkzMg%3D%3D&
@@Ableton This isn't "in-depth" work, it's an extremely basic song structure. Session view really should have this basic feature, if it doesn't already.
@@hughharsher When I edit it the way I want, Ableton's session view still isn't playing each scene automatically and sequentially. Apparently what I'm wanting to do isn't even possible according to a previous reply from Ableton.
@@Ableton Thanks for your swift response. Shall check that. Haven't yet fully understood Ableton clip behaviour. My doubt about Session view isn't resolved yet. Suppose my Midi track 1 has 4 clips one below the other say C1, C2, C3 and C4. My Midi track 2 has 3 more clips say C5, C6 and C7. How do I control the sequence of their playback? I mean if I want to play them in the order C6-C1-C3-C2-C5-C7-C4 how to achieve that? Let me first understand the Session view. May move to Arrangement view after that. I hold a Intro 10 license for 3 years now and overall very happy about Ableton. 😀 Thanks in advance from Pune city, India.
Hi Shreepad. Thanks for the response. There are lots of different ways to achieve the playback scenario you're describing and it depends on your preferred workflow. If you're looking for help with this type of thing, we recommend getting in touch with an Ableton Certified Trainer. They are experts at helping with just this type of issue. bit.ly/3Ei2kfh Thanks - Ableton
Man, coming to Ableton from Logic with no prior knowledge, session view was so confusing to look at. But with this video, I can't believe I haven't been using Ableton this whole time...
