Best teacher on utube!!! Changed my whole game for the better. U have a way of simplifing it so we can better understand it and thats what makes u the best golf yeacher on utube. Thanks for helping all of us with our game Paul. Ive struggled for years until i found your videos. Keep up the good work man!!
Paul I have been following your advice for a long time now and have to say my game has improved dramatically! It was no absolute easy fix and I had to work at it bit but after a few sessions practicing, "bingo" I got it and it works. Also after watching one of your videos on bunker play I can honestly say I am now "superior out of the bunkers where previously I was a basket case!!! Excellent stuff and I love this new video.
Thank you Paul! After I watch your effortless swing a month or two and practise. Now my driver reaches 225 yard and 3 wood 220. Iron 7 around 140. I follow your way to hit iron pure. My friend saw my swing and so surprised what I did. I always what you said feel easy. It is really helpful. Thank you again!
This is by far the greatest tip for weight shift ever. I have tried many years to get my weight forward with other tips but you hit this one solid. It works. Thanks again. Mary (Phil) Lodato
You are the best instructor that I've ever encountered I've always been flat footed I've used your effortless system to create a lot of power and good distance but this move you are showing me here is the finishing piece I'm always flat footed on my right foot upon turning if I use this approach this move you've shown it should take a lot of pressure on my knees thanks Paul you're the best
I have been watching your videos for years now and improving very well and use alot of your tips .. so i do give your tips to others too . thanks for your lessons ...
Hi. I'm a beginner. I happened to discover this a bit before, and then I watched your video to confirm. I want to protect my knees and back, hips, etc.. I"m thinking of the future so I don't want pain. Your videos fit the bill for me! Thanks! :)
Very good. You have come to the right place. In no way should the swing hurt your body. If it does, you are doing it wrong. Stick to the drills etc. and you will be playing great golf in no time and save yourself a lifetime of frustration ... and pain.
I've been searching for a video like this for a while now. I've noticed the pro's back heel coming off the ground for a few months now. Back in high school, playing just for fun a few times a year, we always thought it was correct to be flat footed. Now that I'm taking golf more seriously (50 years later) I search for videos like this. Thanks.
Yes, let this foot come off the ground 3-4" with irons and 5-6" with longer clubs. Do this and your back won't hurt. Keeping it flat puts a lot of stress on it.
So glad to hear the details on where the weight is loaded onto the right foot! FINALLY I understand (at 2:56) that even though countless teachers say to distribute weight 50/50, 80% of that weight should be on the left edge of the right foot which will greatly assist in rotating toward the toe as described. It's no wonder I'm playing catch-up in my swing when I'm flat footed throughout most of it. It was also a revelation on how much the foot is up PRIOR to impact. I'm sure if I look back at my videos, the heel would only be up a fraction of that amount. Great video....I bought your program and while change is hard, the results thus far are promising :-)
Yes, you really need to understand this stuff. This was a light bulb moment for you. These are great because they take your game to a whole new level. Thank you for your support. I appreciate it.
I self discovered this on the range while trying to prevent fat shots. It’s been a game changer for me! Thank you for professional confirmation😃! Love your instruction Paul!
Paul, I was playing golf today and using the techniques you've been teaching. I drove a ball, off the tee box, 189 yds with a smooth stress free swing. One of the other players said he had hit a weed harder than my swing. I'm a convert!!!
Thanks. I had asked you about this recently and this detailed explanation is very helpful. You are correct, simple but tricky. Appreciate you very much.
Great tip! I tend to spin my hips out leaving my upper body and arms out of position. This drill helps sync up weight shift with hip rotation. Thanks Paul!
Happy to help! It's a turn and shift. Just end up fully on the left foot and tip of right toe. Do it in practice swings. Once you train the ending point you will go there without thinking about it.
Hi Paul, best driving day of my life 2- 290. 1- 305. Relaxed swing letting the body do the work effortless. Irons are slowly coming missed a 10’ putt for a 79. 🤬. Getting back on that toe what a huge improvement. Keep those tips coming. 🙏.
Paul, I’ve tried following the advice of many RU-vid pros but yours is by far the best! I’m hitting longer and straighter than I have in the 30 years I’ve played the game. Thanks. One question though, as I’m not using my hands to power my backswing to avoid activating my wrists I’m often coming up short in my backswing, any drills or tips to avoid this?
Fantastic! You need to manually set the backswing by hinging your wrists fully. This means you will feel your arms as you are trying to master the position. Powerless arms is in the downswing. I am not hitting or helping the shot with my arms. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_O0H2QNFo0.html
How ironic! I was just working on following through the shot today with my coach - he was (different wording) telling me. I need to do this very thing!! Thanks for the great video and information Paul.
Very good. I like it when people are going to teachers who are on the same page as me. Keep at it. Weight shift is a big part of the swing. Too many people are stuck on this back foot at impact.
Just managed to get to a heel up position and it added 10 yards to my 4 iron. Was going straight too. Focusing on the feet helped take the tension away from my arms as well.
this what im struggle with right now its amazing how u post just the tip i need at the moment.i went birdie birdie then all at once it changed i then went bogie bogie an stuggled rest of the round
i figured out my weight was on my toes amazing how that messed my whole game up so fast.even 50 yard chips i was shanking cause was no shift..ball marks with the grass was at front grooves of the irons so it wasnt hozel shank cause i didnt shift flat footed hit
you right i went to driving range an i was still doing this an i finally figured out i wasnt shifting on left side my leg wasnt going straight with them 50 yard shot my friend was like you got the shanks i never seen you do it that bad.wasnt a hozel shank i was hitting ball at front center just wasnt turning it over shifting i looked on here nobody said thats a shank
The last time I watched him do a clinic (just before he passed away) he had hit over 4 million golf balls (he counted every one) so that helps. He was also a pro. From that position he did get up onto the tip of the back foot it was just after impact. I just find a super wide stance getting the weight off that foot is difficult and compresses the lower back. I did try this swing many years ago. My arms were killing me.
Gonna try this. It’s amazing how many iterations there are of the golf swing and instruction these days. Single plan, Stack and Tilt, Squat and Jump. 😳
Hi Paul. For years I have struggled to find that trigger move in the takeaway. This week it just happened as I was at the pitch and putt. Doing this slight movement in my trail foot starts it all. An almost imperceptible tilting the foot onto the instep, and off it all goes. The weight transferred the hips turned and the swing ended up beautifully finished up on my back toe. This video helped me understand. Have a nice weekend.
Good one Paul.....I think sometimes once the ball is gone we forget that the swing isn't over yet.....I find myself not getting up on that trail toe sometimes....... thanks for the reminder
Yes, the swing is certainly not over. The follow through is the most important position in the swing. That is why I have taught this first since my first lesson in 1991. Not sure I will be giving that away on YT.
Hi Paul! I’ve really been struggling for distance with my irons recently and I believe this is why. I try doing this whilst also staying behind the ball but I really struggle to do the two. I also think I come over the top. I might not have described that very well but do you have any tips? It would be much appreciated !! Love the videos - you’ve found a life long subscriber 🏌️♂️
Well the coming over the top is hitting with arms. So you need to stop hitting. Turn them off completely as you come down. So you are not hitting from the top and you are not trying to help the shot as you approaching impact (this is what I used to do). You do nothing. Zero. If you are not using your arms you would have to use your body otherwise your arms would stay up there forever. You fire the lower and upper tilts back creating the path from the side. If you can't do it that way you need to manually tilt until you have it mastered. Then you can go back to firing the lower. Hi Paul, love your tips and they're having a big positive impact on my game. Just a couple of questions about today's tip. Are you suggesting that we actively push off with the trail foot or does this passively happen in response to appropriate hip turn? Just trying to work which contributes to which, or do both happen together. In terms of sequencing, as the down swing is initiated, is this when the pushing off the trail foot needs to begin? Thanks for your thoughts on this
Thanks for the support. This depends on if you are triggering your swing from the instep. Watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZiIbTW14Was.html this is what I do. If you have a different trigger then it would just happen. You are shifting and turning immediately. Like throwing a ball. You would shift and turn. From the top to impact is 1/4 of a second. This is happening fast. Throw some balls out in front of you and get used to the feeling.
Great instruction as always Paul! Get the camera out boys and be sure to video the swing in 60 fps or higher if possible. That's really the only sure fire way to confirm what your heel is doing at and through impact. I spent nearly a year overcoming a flat rear foot at impact. Still to this day I have to consciously push off a little with the rear foot to get rotation in high gear!
Good day Paul! An instructor i know always says my rear foot is flat through impact, and it’s like playing golf with a parking brake on. What is the exact cause of why the foot won’t lift off the ground? I usually end up in a pretty decent finish position with most all of my weight on my front foot. Thanks for all the great info!
It's just cause your not turning You hips fast enough. The faster they turn the more the foot is pulled off the ground. You must have started golf as an adult so you today isn't moving. Do daily swings holding the club at knee high. Video it. You will see it perfectly off the ground. As you keep doing the drill it will happen with the ball on front of you
@@paulwilsongolf hey Paul thanks for the response! I guess I’m not following when you say “do daily swings with the club at knee high”. I’m not really sure what you mean by that. Anyway you could explain the drill you’re referring to a little better? Thanks!
How do you balance a good weight shift while keeping head behind the ball at impact (reverse C)? I'm always confused by these two things because they seem counterintuitive. Thanks for the videos!
Firing the lower is like hitting an accelerator on a car. As you fire, your body goes backwards. This is if you are experienced. If not then manually get the tilt by working on it. Then stop thinking about it. Watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BzBgiUhyrB4.html And: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sbE-hzTXgNo.html
So I went to the range tonight and took my 3 iron and after about 45 balls I took a break played on my phone and took a sip of water and was hitting range balls about 180 off a tee so not bad for me but I believed I could do better finished my break and remembered that I need my arms loose wrists loose but a strong grip and allowed my body to swing and my arms followed and all of a sudden my shots were higher and longer by 20 yards and used almost no energy.I was tired and my arms were sore but all things changed after I remembered the effortless swing
I notice when this problem pops up for me that it is more common with shorter irons and wedges (8-pw). So I was curious, is the problem of staying flat-footed/keeping weight on back foot generally more common with shorter irons? Do you see this problem more with shorter clubs and if so why would this be or is it just a peculiarity of my own swing?
Well the less you drive the lower body the less the heel would be coming up. Your hips turning pulls the heel up. So yes, it would be less with shorter clubs.
I haven't been on a mat so I don't know for sure. Right now I am working on getting to my left a little more to keep pressure off my right hip. I've had some hip pain for about 5 years (better now) so I am trying to be careful.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks, would you estimate it to be 60 left 40 right or more like 50:50. I had been trying at least 75 left but I think I was way off with that......!
Trypically It's going to be way more into the left than the right. Maybe search some weight distribution videos to see someone with catalyist or another weight pressure mat so you can see the numbers. Nowadays there are so many different theories on it depending on what swing you are trying to do. I would say at least 60 left if not more. You need the backwards tilt of you body though as you fire the lower. If you just shift you will come over the top and/or get ahead of the ball causing pulls, topping, skying etc. I talk about it in these tips: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sbE-hzTXgNo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BzBgiUhyrB4.html
@@paulwilsongolf yes, it's the backward lean at impact, but at the same time, getting the weight onto the left foot that I REALLY struggle with. Maybe a video concentrating on this would be good? Thanks for your replies.
It is tricky. I would be doing tons of swings up in the air: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x1NehGi8tyI.html Also, watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sbE-hzTXgNo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDlwfq_ZBvE.html

Hi Paul. You always talk about letting both knees touch in the downswing motion. Is that also the case when using longer clubs e.g. Long irons or fairway woods, since the feet are further apart during setup? Thanks.
I like them touching at the end so you get feedback to repeat the same movement each time. No feedback and how are you going to do the same swing? Different swing = different result.
@@paulwilsongolf I'm trying to do that but for some reason my right knee just cannot reach the left knee when using longer clubs. Perhaps that is because I have been crunching my right toe during downswing - a habit I may have developed from practicing my swing indoor barefooted. Thank you for the reply!
I see the toe of your right shoe is worn it looks like mine so I buy new shoes when it gets to worn down it’s a great indicator that the weight shift is good
I used to have that really bad. Not so much now. When I got those shoes I was working on something and scrunched the toe. I really don't do that all the much. It can be a good sign and a bad sign you are hanging back too much. Just remember to end up on the very tip of the back toe in the follow through.
I see these instructors that say that the weight does not shift on the backswing. they try to say the pressure shifts instead. i do not think they are right. weight equals pressure times area, so there is no difference. what would you say?
Everyone's got their own take on the swing. I just see it differently. One of the big problems is watching what pros do in slow motion on video. The problem with this is there are certain moves that happen in milliseconds. When people see these moves they thing they need to do them when really they happen without thinking of them. They also don't think of the student. Everything I do thinks of the student and what they can actually handle. It has to be super simple and doable for anyone. Also, keep in mind this analysis is of what pros do which is important to understand but pros learned as kids so if you learned as an adult you may never do exactly what pros are doing. As far as weight shift is concerned I think they are talking about lateral shift as opposed to doing the swing and allow it to happen. Not sure but that may be what they are talking about. Oh, finally all this technology is not making anyone better this is why I don't use any of this stuff. I do the Jack Nicklaus test. I ask myself if Jack used it or did it. If not, they why use it? He became the best with none of this stuff. Same goes for Hogan, Nelson, Snead, Tiger 01-03. So none of these new theories etc. are dominating. If they do, I may think about some of this new stuff until then I will just keep making people play great golf keeping it simple.
Hi Paul,I bought your ebook and its been great and has transformed my game, however I find more consistancy and accuracy with my irons particularly the short Irons with the ball behind the middle of my stance and the shaft slightly forward on impact,do you have a view on this,it seems to work for me and the compression I get with mid irons is amazing(180 yards carry with a 7 iron) it also seems easier to get the weight on my front foot.Any thoughts on this? I still use your advice on the long irons and woods(front of stance)which work great. Regards Chris
I do want 8 iron and down 2 balls inside the forward heel which is almost middle anyway. Longer irons I wouldn't be playing them too forward. If dropping it back a little more than I saw is giving you a noticeable difference then keep doing it. Keep in mind the farther back you go and hands more ahead the more you deloft your clubs.
Thanks for coming back to me so quickly Paul, will see how it goes, keep up the good work,Iam 57 years old by the way,you have transformed my game and thus my enjoyment of the sport,I cant thank you enough as Iam retired and live in Spain from the uk originally so golf is my life, you arethe best!!,I tell as many people as I can about you as they are amazed at my rapid progress and my effortless swing, particularly my long drives(280 yards carry :-)
do you typically have swing thought while you swing? or just focus and keep a blank mind. i feel like when i focus on body part positions in my swing i hit worse
This depends what I am working on. I think about coiling as I go back. I am also trying to not go back too far. Then I think about not hitting or helping the shot with my arms. My thoughts will probably differ from yours while you are working on it. As you start getting it you want the fewest thoughts possible.
Paul, I have a question here. Is it true that I should feel the pressure of the thumb of my left hand at the top of the backswing? I checked if I do not feel the pressure then the leading edge of the club face will not be parallel to my lead arm. Thanks
You would feel pressure because you are hinged to your maximum. Have you missed some of my tips? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_O0H2QNFo0.html If you don't feel the pressure you are not hinging fully.
Morning, coach! As I turn my hip on the downswing,my back foot naturally lifted way more than what you said, and my knee is almost reaching the finish position as the clubhead hit the ball. Is that okay? I could not control it, it’s just happenned as I turn my hip to the target on the downswing.
That seems like too much. Don't start lifting the heel until the club is parallel to the ground approaching impact. To slow the foot down hit 25 balls trying to keep it flat on the ground. After 25 balls stop thinking about it. If so, it will be coming up the perfect amount.
You are still feeling weight on it through and past impact because you are tilted backwards until 3/4 through. Then the weight comes off into the follow through.
Hey Paul - Based on one of your prior videos about the neutral grip you advocate, does the shaft go under your left heel pad or left thumb pad (two very different places)? I know you advocate across the palm of the left hand but trying to be even more specific.
Close the gap between the thumb and side of hand as I suggest. If so it will run perfectly across the left hand. Follow along: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jQZLp8bF-Ww.html
@@paulwilsongolf Interestingly, the greatest of all time (GOAT: Jack Nicklaus) advocates the same exact grip as you, he just doesn't mention the need to glue the thumbs to the index fingers of both hands to create the V and saddle for the shaft but does state left hand palm, right hand fingers grip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-62Sa-oeqrlY.html
If you are talking profile pic that was shot a year or so ago. Not sure which other you are talking about. The only pics I have every posted are about early 30's and up. That was when my first book came out in 2001. I guess I just look good for my age!
I'm guilty of doing this. When I do my practice swing I shift correctly, but sometimes when I'm doing a real swing I'm focusing so much on one thought that I never shift and my back foot stays planted. There is a noticeable loss of power.
So do your normal swing at 50% and actually do what you are doing in the practice swing. This way you will have more time to do everything. Get used to it. Then gradually increase. Got to get off that back foot for sure.
@@paulwilsongolf I appreciate you taking the time to personally respond to students questions here on RU-vid. I had a chance to practice this today and I'm getting more consistent at shifting my weight and coming off the back foot during a real swing. I ended up topping a couple as I came off the back foot too fast a few times,. I think if I continue to practice your recommended technique when I notice that I'm not shifting correctly, I can start to instill proper technique and make it a permanent part of my swing.
Who said this was new? Actually, I don't think I have ever heard anyone say to use the edge of your shoe to roll up but if you were doing it 15 years ago that's great. Not every thing I post is new. I post things I actually teach and have taught over the years.
I've been seeing your videos for long time now, however I think this is not a general rule. Some people are showing the opposite, to keep the back foot planted on the ground until after impact and I believe that's up to single golfer. So I think there isn't a general rule for golfers
Most golfers 90% are already flat footed at impact and that doesn't seem to be working. How about letting the rotation pull the heel off the ground. Put your hands on your hips and turn. See how much pressure it puts on your back when you keep the heel down versus allowing the rotation to pull it off the ground. Then you decide what people should be doing. Remember ... I teach a powerful, effortless, pain-free golf swing.
Well, I would say you are pretty average age or young for who I teach and they don't seem to have a problem doing it.
