I think the only other thing I would say about the MiG is that you should keep in mind the following. It's a nice plane, but it will try to kill you at least twice on every flight - at least once on takeoff and on landing.

Much appreciated. I keep coming back, now working on avoiding ground loops on landing. (Game scores them as "Successful Landing". It's the Russians: Pilot survives and more than 50% of the plane's parts are salvageable = "Successful Landing".)

Yeah Old Guard the ground loop with the MiG can be quite a pain...just gotta watch out for how much rudder your applying on the rollout so you don't unlock the tailwheel at too high a ground speed while also ensuring you touchdown with your fuselage nice and straight. Regarding the success factors...that sounds about right LOL

I never understood what players or plilots meant when they say "X plane is very temperamental". That's until I tried to land the MIG-3... Thanks for the video, great material and very useful as always.

I've got quite a bit of experience in tail draggers in real life but I still struggle to take off in the Mig in this game. The swing seems inconsistent to me and is thus difficult to counter. Nice job on the video.

Thanks Darbzy, hopefully with the FM update soon the yaw sensitivity will be toned down somewhat as right now it takes a very light touch on the pedals. That's great you have some taildragger experience! I don't have my tailwheel endorsement yet but I plan on working on it as I'd like to fly in the CAF eventually. Reserve at an airline isn't conducive to time off.

hey i'm wondering where you got the information for this? i can't find a translated MiG-3 manual anywhere online

I remember for the Russian aircraft I was translating the highlights of what I was looking for myself

Great Video as always. It took me a fair bit of time to take the Mig off and land. She's a handful to take off , especially with the long nose and a strong torque to the right. I found that if I get the tail up as soon as possible on the roll, she was much better behaved but there were times when I over compensated for the left rudder and I ended up off the runway. Thanks again for the great tips. This plane is challenging to say the least, I can only imagine how she was in real life 😧

Thanks Renato, it is one of the harder planes to keep in one piece until you are comfortable with it. Getting the tail up is definitely a key part of it but then you have the added effect of gyroscopic precession increasing the turning tendency which can catch you out, especially with how touchy the rudders are!

I was on a quick map the other day, and the turbulence at low level mixed with the MiG3 being itself made fora beast of a time trying to just get in the air, much less do anything...

Aaron, even on calm condition this plane is a handful but with strong crosswinds on landing and take off it's like juggling several balls on a moving swing

you can be certain I don't play Ironman with this plane.

+RequiemBoS *Thanks for an overview of one of Russia's first pneumatics-heavy aircraft.* The Mikojan-Gurevich-3 used high pressure air for the wheel brakes, landing-gear and flap turbines, and probably other systems. Probably had a four-piston compressor on the Aleksandr Mikulin 35 or 38 to recharge the system to 1 to 2 MPa. I presume the charging handles for the single 12.7x108 Pulemjot Berezina and dual 7.62x54R Pulemjot Shpitalnogo-Komaritskogo installation run into the cockpit?

Going through your vids on both channels, but I don't see anything for tips and tricks to use when getting ganged up on by multiple opponents. I tend to turn into opponents, avoid exposing my six if I can, extending if I can't to separate them. Barrel rolls and snap rolls where possible to force overshoots. Still get pummeled.

Hi Drunk Monk, it sounds like you're doing the best things in a bad situation like that. When you are 1 v 2 things get very difficult/hectic, especially if the enemy airplanes are better performance wise, so there is no foolproof way to survive or win as each situation can be very different. In addition to your maneuvering one extra thing to keep in mind is the enemy's visibility of you to exploit it. There have been times when I've been 1 v 2 and by predicting when I'll be out of their line of sight I can usually dash into a cloud or extend away/change direction while they chase their tail looking for where they thought I would be. Doing this is much easier against only one enemy obviously. A successful fight is one you can survive even if you don't kill one or both of them. Sometimes though there just isn't a lot you can do except try to buy enough time defensively for help to turn up or use your maneuvering to get some quick shots away to hopefully at least damage one and force it to disengage. If your gunnery skills are good then usually you can damage one early, force it to leave, then focus on the second. Come to think of it I do have a video of a 1 v 2 in an I-16 vs 109 E-7s that worked out, but that was only by turning the tables quickly. The longer you're fighting against 2 the more likely it is you are going down.

I'm lazy and it isn't real life. It's okay that I fly off mixture to reduce the mainfold aye? :P

If you want toand it works for you, go for it. There are no repercussions as this isn't RL :)

Such a tough one to get the takeoff down

Yeah it is, so hopefully this technique helps people out. Although it is a bit late due to RL getting in the way!

IL-2 CLoD is way better than this
@Claude-Eckel

So what?! What is way better? What is this? The plane? BoM? BoS? This channel? What? What sort of comment and unsubstantial non-information is that supposed to be? *It highly depends on your demands, expectations, and above all on your personal multitasking skills which game is better.* Better FOR YOU doesn't mean it's better. Sry Mr. Fanboy, but I have news for you: Copernicus called and you are not the center of the universe. Other people have different oppinions and likings and abilities, thus higher demands and are willing to go the extra mile. Ever noticed that?
