Awesome video. I watched several videos and almost gave up until I came across your video. I made a child size glove for practice and it came out better than I expected. Now I'm going to make a pair. Thank you.
@@ileanaleah2545 I remember my first attempt. Without even reading anything about knitting or looking up the basics I immediately for a hat knitting. I accidentally made a sock instead but oh well🤣
This was such a good tutorial, I have been crocheting for almost 3 years now and started knitting 5 months ago, very happy with how my gloves turned out!!:)
As an accomplished knitter (58 years)...gloves have always scared me to death! You have given me the courage to attempt them. Thank you! Love your teaching style!
Ah!!!! I’m so grateful for this tutorial. I’ve always felt so distraught watching the tutorials with dpns and was hoping to find a magic loop one. I plan on making these for myself after I finish my Christmas projects, although I want to make them into half finger ones :)
I’m making my gloves. Almost done with the first one. I always want to make gloves but I was so afraid to try. Thanks to you and you ability to teach in a such simple way, I got my yarn and needles and started. Now here I am almost done with the first one. Thank you so much for your tutorial and for sharing your knowledge. Your simple way to explain, make it so easy to understand. You’re blessed. Thank you so much for the amazing tutorials you have in your channel. Good bless you and your hands to keep making those beautiful knitting. ❤️
Great! Just what I needed, I had to know how to pick up stitches between the fingers without creating holes. Very good video! I've succeeded! Thanks a lot 😀
I put aside some knitting for a while because I wanted to change the mittens I started into gloves and I was having trouble starting the fingers. Your video helped me a lot and now I’ll be able to finish my first pair of gloves. Thank you!
Thank you , I've wanted to know how to knit gloves for a long time and this tutorial is very easy to follow. I have made several gloves using this pattern and now find it helpful to leave the waste yarn in place until the work is finished, this gives me a line to measure the fingers from and also a lifeline in case I make a mistake.
Thank you so much!! This is incredibly helpful I'm trying to knit a pair of gloves for the first time and I feel like after this explanation I can totally do it
Thnku for this great clear instruction & pattern ❤ I’ve been struggling to make finger gloves and now watching you it has enabled me to make my first finger gloves 🎉🎉🎉
I must confess I'm not yet proficient with picking up the side stitches so I do an overcast technique with the tail, between the fingers. Works great.....thanks for your informative tutorial!
@@annasworld9114 It took me about 3 days. The fingers were kind of finicky and it took a while to weave in all the ends, but overall they were really easy to make! I actually made them for a patient of mine who recently had 4 of her fingers amputated. She absolutely loved them!!
This is going to be my next project when I’ve finished my second pair of socks. Followed the pattern on you tube successfully for the socks, so hoping the gloves will be as good lol. You make it look very straightforward, but I suspect there will be some undoing and starting again 🤣. Really appreciate you taking the time to help us new knitters by making this video. Thank you.
Thank you! I've been wanting to learn to make full finger gloves for a while & this tutorial makes it look a lot easier than I thought they'd be. Can you please do tutorials for half-finger gloves & toe socks (a lot of my friends been asking me for toe socks & Tabi socks)? Thanks 😃
Thanku so much for this wonderful video.I've been waiting for so long for the gloves knitting video.I'm almost done with my gloves and very happy .Never thought it will be this easy to make.well explained .Hoping to see many more videos on sweater, cardigan and others. Thanks again.
As a visual person, watching your demonstration has been so helpful. I put my Sidar knitting pattern down as could not understand it at the fingers section. I knitted the whole glove based on your instructions and your pattern is now in my head. I can now knit the other glove without looking anything up. I think it would be useful in your instruction sheet, if you could show how many starting stitches for a child, or mans hand, and how many stitches you would use for the thumb and fingers, we would be able to knit those too, based on the method you have given. Thank you so much and I have now subscribed to to your channel.
This has been on my knitting bucket list for a long, long time. Thank you for such an informative and easy tutorial to follow. My glove came out beautifully and I’m so proud of this accomplishment. Much easier to make than I first thought, but mostly that was due in part to your step by step instructions. Thank you so much! And I subscribed to your channel too! ❤️
UPDATE: knitted me up a new glove that has 16 stitches before the sm like you suggested and it fits so so SOOOOO much better! Thank you so much for your assistance! I’m very very happy and very very proud of the way how these turned out! Thank you!
Thank you so much. I am very happy knitting the first gloves of my life. Great video and explanations. I wonder how to do exactly symmetrical the right and the left glove, instead if making It twice. Wonderful video. Great with Magic loop.
Loved much of the video. Good general formula,I think. I would have loved to see how the weaving in actually worked on the glove--I can't really find that anywhere. You mentioned it,but I need to see it. Thanks for the video!
Great video with clear instructions. Thank you! Do you know how I could adjust this to accommodate a larger (man's) hand? Is it as simple as adding a few stitches?
Can you please add the size of the final glove in the description? I've managed to find it in the downloaded pattern but I think it would be helpful to have it in the description of the video (I'm a beginner). Thanks a lot for the video! Your method was the easiest from all I've seen online (4 needles!!!)
Thank you so much. I’m a beginner and your video is easy to follow. Would it be possible to make semifingered gloves by not closing the tips? I prefer gloves that allow me to use my smartphone
I finished my first glove! Thank you so much for the clear instructions. I started the second glove and have notice it is not symmetrical. Is there a way to do the opposite of the pattern to mirror the first glove?
I’ve followed your instructions really great video. But these gloves size are way bigger than what is described. I’ve even changed yarn size and everything. Do you have any idea how this is possible?
Hi, great video, I used it for my first ever glove! Even though I'm a continental knitter, the trick with picking up stitches worked nicely. But I wanted to know, if you have any video, where you show how you reinforce stitches between fingers? I don't have any big holes in my first glove, but I would like to reinforce the part near thumb .. I'm a person which learns best from video, so I cant really imagine what you mean by "following the stitches"... Thank you!
Hi - I am so glad you enjoyed it! Great question, I don't have one specifically for gloves, but I do have a video showing how to reinforce/weave in the end around the thumb on a pair of mittens - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V1I3mZMpb8w.html - it starts at about the 4 minute mark. Hope that helps!
Absolutely amazing tutorial for a beginner like me. I've learned so much. I want to knit the pattern in Dk worsted yarn. Which is thicker than recommended. Could you give numbers of stitches etc as I have tried to adjust it myself, but its proving difficult. Thanks again.
I am so glad it was helpful! I do not currently have the stitch count/sizing for DK/worsted weight, but I have gotten quite a few requests for it, so it is currently in the works!
You are making this very clear. I am new to magic loop but think I can do it. I do have a question. Can you follow this pattern and make them fingerless gloves by only knitting fingers so long. Ty
Yes you could definitely do that! I would just continue working the 56 stitches for as long as you would like. I would probably add some ribbing before you cast off as well so that they aren't too loose.
Excited to try this out, I’ve only knit in the round for gloves before! I was wondering, how long does it take for you to make one glove? I’m wondering what to aspire to one day lol.
This is fantastic! One of the best knitting tutorials I've watched! I'm needing to make gloves for my 2.5yo, is there a pattern you have that would be the right size with the same process?
Thank you! Unfortunately, I do not currently have any glove patterns in that size, but it looks like Drops has one that is scaled down to a pretty small size! Drops Pattern: www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=5820&cid=17
Thanks! Sure! I can think of two ways (1) You would want to start each finger exactly as written in the pattern and then after you have knit 1" (or any length you prefer) cast off all stitches or (2) to make the cast off tighter around your finger, knit each finger as written for .5", then switch to a few rounds of ribbing and then cast off Hope that helps!
10:40 when you say “I’m going to knit two full rounds,” what do you mean? Do you mean to say that you are going to knit a single side fully then do it again on the other? Or are you knitting in a full circle twice?
Thank you for a great easy to follow video. I am definitely going to make a pair for winter. Also do you have a fingerless pattern as I would love to make a pair for my husband. Thanks Jeanine
Is there a reason you knit one half at a time, as opposed to knitting all the way around until the first 2"? I stopped at each half and turned it for fear of messing something up, but I was sorely tempted to keep going, not seeing any obvious differences it would make.
Thank you for your video. However, I followed all the instructions and when I finished the thumb increases I had a huge glove already. I don't know why, I did it step by step, I really did :(
Hi Julieth! Often with knitting things can end up different sizes based off of how tight or loose we hold the yarn. This means that two knitters could use the exact same yarn and needles and end up with two completely different sized projects. If your gloves are too large and you would like to try the project again, I would recommend using a smaller needle size. If your gloves are only slightly too large, try going down one needle size, or if they are really large, try going down two needle sizes. The other problem could be the thickness of the yarn, if your yarn is significantly thicker than the sock weight (fingering weight) yarn the pattern calls for, the gloves will end up larger no matter what needle size you use. I hope that helps!
@@juliethp3792 where did you decrease your stitches?? I realized I must have a small hand and I want to make them tighter but I don’t want to decrease the finger circumferences!
Hi! Unfortunately I only have the one size right now, but I have gotten quite a few requests for larger sizes/kids sizes/different yarn weights and am currently working on them - I hope to have them out soon!
Hi! On the pattern page on my website it is the 'PDF Pattern' button - located just below the text on the left when you view it from a computer www.knittinghousesquare.com/hands/gloves
Hi! For the initial cast on you can use either the Long Tail Cast On or the German Twisted Cast On. Then, when I cast on in between the fingers, I use the backward loop cast on because it is in the middle of a row. For the thumb I did not cast on any stitches, I just follow along the waste yarn and pick up the stitches. I hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions!
This is an awesome video. I have searched and searched for a way to make gloves with magic loop and could not find anything I could follow until I found this video. One problem though, I keep getting ladders in my work right where everything was divided up. Is there a way to troubleshoot this?
I am so glad you enjoyed it! Ladders can be difficult to prevent. What I try to do to minimize them is that whenever I am beginning a new side of my work I hold the back half of the stitches right up against the front half and pull the first stitch that I work fairly tight. I have also found washing the work tends to even out any ladders that remain.
Hi! I go based off of the measurement across my palm and them choose the size & cast on number based off of that. Once I have determined how many stitches I need to cast on I can modify the lengths and the number of stitches for each finger. I do also have a video now that has multiple sizes in fingering weight yarn: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XMLClVCJ3Mk.html
Hi! For this pattern you need circular knitting needles to match the weight of yarn you are using. I teach using magic loop which uses circular knitting needles with a longer cord, but if you prefer to use double pointed needles you could definitely modify my instructions to do that! I hope that helps, let me know if you have any additional questions!
A 21" cord would probably work! A longer cord makes magic loop a little easier, but the gloves are narrow enough that they are on the needles most of the time, and barely go onto the cord so you should be fine
Hi, i did 44 sts because I'm using a medium 4 yarn with 4.0mm needles. How would I need to divide up those stitches for the finger part of the pattern?? Do I still do the increase for 20 st and then continue on or is it going to be a whole different count because you casted 56sts?? @knittinghousesquare
Hi! Great question - for a medium weight yarn I would do about 12- 14 stitches for the thumb instead of the 20 sts in this pattern. Then for worsted weight gloves I have found that I prefer it to have about the same number of stitches for each finger so I would split up the 44 stitches into: Index: 6(front) + 6(back) = 10 + 2(cast on) = 14 Middle: 5(front) + 5(back) = 10 + 2(previous finger) + 2(cast on) = 14 Ring: 5(front) + 5(back) = 10 + 2(previous finger) + 2(cast on) = 14 Pinky: 6(front) + 6(back) = 10 + 2(previous finger) = 14 I hope that helps!
