I love that you are sharing your knowledge I do hope to find a lot more of your videos. This is my first one. I subscribed and rang the bell. going to check out your channel now and watch as many as I can while I crochet and the minute I get done what I am doing will start making your motifs. Many more thanks!

I like the concept of going straight over a cord rather than into a chain. Saves cross-eyed counting! Looks like it's done in the same way (under the cord) that you'd do when starting a crochet motif - you're putting the hook into what feels like mid air. Very well described - thank you for this.

How does one tie off the padding cord, and hide the ends?
@HookCrochet

I thread the strands of padding cord into the back of the work using a sewing needle, just through a couple of stitches is enough.

I've seen crocheted cords for use in making Celtic knot designs and I'm wondering how you make the actual cords. Can you explain?

Hi Tammy, traditionally the cord would be no.10 thickness cotton thread doubled up. You can then crochet your motif over the cord and pull the ends of the cord to shape your motif. It's a lovely way to make motifs

Lovely tutorial, thank you! I was somewhat confused by the use of the cord initially, thinking that it defeats the purpose since what you are trying to achieve is a fine piece. Is it to make the crocheted piece stiff or does it have a different purpose?

The padding cord is still quite fine usually no.10 cotton thread so you crochet over the cord and then pull the cord to gently shape your motif. I normally crochet over it loosely enough and then draw the cord to make it much smaller, tighter and yes to make the motifs stiff too.
