I now do a lot of NFT stuff: / punk9059 The Korean alphabet is surprisingly easy to learn. I can't speak a word but can read most symbols. This video will teach you 90% of what you need to know.
I’m bilingual in both English and Korean, and I have to approve that this dude is a genius. He explains every important feature in Korean letters in a way easier way to memorize for English speakers. The examples attached on the each letter have no correlation to the origins or the meaning but they facilitate associations to the pronunciations of the letters.
Every example meaning has different rules though and some make very little sense, and ski mountain I'd be thinking of the keyword mountain rather than ski, so not really that easy to remember unless you have a photographic memory
I'm more impressed with his time management. He says "in about five minutes" while simultaneously doing the thing he's setting out to do in that amount of time.
I have a feeling he saw that his initial recording was close to five minutes, maybe slightly under or over, and he edited and re-recorded some bits to hit the perfect 5:01 😂 Mad respect
Ten years ago, I stumbled upon this video shortly after I decided to shift from learning Japanese to Korean. Now, a decade later, I find myself living in Korea, sharing my life with a Korean partner, and working as a full-time TV/media translator. It's a delightful surprise to see this video resurface on my RU-vid homepage today.
This was the first video I watched in my (inconsistent) attempt at learning Korean, I took some random lessons, dropped it, came back to this video, and it still remains the most Korean I know outside of random words and phrases I’ve picked up from my constant Korean content consumption. 😂 Thank you for this. 😂
That's not the case for me.. i've watched this video long ago just for fun and i find it very interesting that it really does make me able to read literally every korean word after watching this video.. at the end of the day, it all depends of how interested you are in learning korean..
Actually, I was able to read it , you need to watch other videos of the korean alphabet because he went through it really fast so you don’t memorize it , once you know the letters , you can read it :)
@@zahraalawas So it takes more than 5minutes. If can read whole grammar for russian on wikipedia in 20minutes it doesn't mean that i can read and speak fluent russian in 20 minutes.
Miklas Karjalainen the title said learn to read and he taught you how in 5 min and u learn it for 5 min which doesn’t mean you will be able to after this video.
As someone learning Korean, when I saw the title I thought it would be a scam but I must say it's real, this does teach you Hangeul, althought this is not all the Korean, he didn't mention the tense consonants (kk, tt, jj, pp, ss) some aspirated consonants (k, t, ch) and the double vowels (wa, wo, wae, we, oe, wi, ui) but this is a really good start!, I hope everyone that wants to learn Korean sees this video so they have a solid base.
What you should know is that if you study hard to learn Korean it will take approximately 2000 hours to learn... which is much better than say japanese or mandarin chinese which might take 5years to a decade to become completely fluent in.@@youknowkbbaby
@@youknowkbbabyThat's always a very subjective question and depends on your motivation, discpline, methodology and consistency. While talent can help, it is only a kickstarter, talent without consistency and practice goes to waste
This isn't your best work. The tone may resonate more with a younger audience, but you've established an affluent grammatical presence in previous comments. Hence this one feels rather forced. Not my fav week-old comment from @LOL-funny-videos. Hoping for a return to form soon...
Technically, as a native Korean, there are subtle differences between his explanation and the original sound the Korean make. However, this video must be really helpful to ones who just started to learn Korean as a foreign language, 'cause the way he teaches us is enjoyable and, above all, mind-blowing.
Dude this was so fun to watch and learn, the fact that he only has 1 video up and it’s been 10 years and it’s ONLY 5 mins long makes me so sad bc I would 100% watch hour long videos of him teaching this and me writing notes bc this helped and I feel it’s necessary to have that really good teacher that makes sure you understand and goes through it slowly if I learned he had a class I’d paid for it dude I want to learn Korean so bad
This video is brilliant! Hangul always looked simple but I keep forgetting the sounds for the individual characters and I already struggle with pronunciation. Your examples are amazing! I feel ready to try learning Korean again!
I watched this video a long time ago, and it just got re recommended to me 😂and I must say, thank you so much. This guide helped me so much, and now I’m learning the whole language. Not only is this video what inspired me to, but it’s probably the most helpful video I’ve ever seen in the process.
In the languages I've learned, Chai, Banana, and Chocolate are always the same. You wanna open up an international smoothie stand... those 3 flavors won't need any translations.
I'll just leave my comment because I'm so grateful. This was extremely helpful because I keep forgetting the vowels and this video is my life saver. Thanks.
This is fun to watch! Due to watching korean movies back in middle school, they had the korean subs alongside eng ones which made me always glance at kor subs while listening to the actors speaking I subconsciously learned how how to pronounce and read in korean but I still don't know much vocabulary nor how to engage in learning korean while having a busy life while already struggling as a trilingual who's not fluent in either of the three languages (lmao), hope to learn it properly any time soon!
@@user-bz1lt7qs6b sort of. There were some mistakes, like the pronunciation of ㄱ is actually somewhere between g and k, not just a g sound. There are also way more characters than the ones shown in this video, like there are actually 40 characters in total including the complex vowels like ㅘ, ㅝ, ㅙ etc.
I can’t explain how I feel about this video, one like mark is not enough to express my happy feeling to get to know how to read Hangul. Thank you so much for sharing this!
this is only good for reading it, not understanding it. for example now that you've watched you know what this says: 안녕하세요 but you might not know what it means
Awesome video. Just to add to Sam's excellent teaching - 'ㄱ' (which sounds as G (as gun) as it looks like one) is also the position of your tongue when you pronounce it in Korean. 'ㄴ' (which sounds as N (as nose)) is also the position of tongue when pronounced. History implies the Korean language was developed from a group of people and a king (Sejong, 세종) - around approx 650 years ago. Obviously one needs to practice - but it's relatively easy to learn at the beginning.
thanks so much man I just watched your short 5 min video like 2 days ago, and now I'm already able to transcribe my favourite korean song into roman. Next time can finally sing it in karaoke hahaha. You're a legend my friend

@@john23evangelist63 I am catholic but could you stop forcing religion? People believe in Other religions and thatks okay. If you wanna get mad over people not believing in christ, be mad because nobody is gonna change their religion 😊
@@miizuakiya he didn't force anyone lol, he simply just stated something and left it for those who care to read it. Force would be if he made you read it and made you be a Christian, putting it there for you to have the option of reading it is not force
To be honest, that’s easier than I thought. Just practice a little and remember all those characters and you have it. The little descriptions like “nose”, “gun” and stuff helped a lot as well. I’m not planning on ever learning Korean but knowing the writing system wouldn’t hurt, right? I can remember things quite easily and well, maybe that’s an advantage for these kind of things :3
Have heard for years that Korean is easy to read and was curious to see if it’s true. Looked up how to read Korean on Google and this came up. I’ll admit I’m a slow learner and didn’t think I would actually be able to learn too much from a short video but wow was I wrong. This actually helped me learn quite a bit in a short time! I was reading the words on the right like Samsung before he even got around to teaching what it said! A VERY well made lesson😊
Exam is tomorrow Watches the video Comes to school speaking Korean and gets a 20% worth it... Edit: This was an un-funny comment, why did 3k people who like it?!
@@victoriajenkins4330 I've seen millions like these comments, if someone's good enough, this is the new way children in comments praise them, and I know your familiar with that praising, BTS fan.

@@victoriajenkins4330 you could be 70 and still be young seeming to me, so yes you are a child. I brought it up because I've only seen it more than a millions times, almost under every some what good comment, like some catchphrase from hell.
This video gave me goosebumps, not only for the content, but for the nostalgia for the good old days of Mac and Google. He took me back to the early 2010s.
I mentioned this'd been in my watchlist for a while now when my bf was looking through language options in a game I got him into. Finally said I'd watch it before bed. Six thirty in the morning at least a month after getting this into my watchlist when it's literally five minutes. I'm saving the screenshot.
Just amazed. As a Brazilian who has no idea how to speak any oriental language, I read the title and thought it was a joke or click bait. RU-vid kept recommending it and I finally decided to give it a chance and here I am: amazed and now curious to learn more
Watched this in 2017 and now 6 years later i have an advanced korean level and work translating from korean so thanks !! tbh this helped me a lot memorizing at the beggining :)
As someone who’s not really actively studying Japanese rn but is sort of passively learning it, I have no idea why I clicked on this video, but honestly why not this felt very educational
I clicked on this video thinking I’m either about to learn Korean or waste 5 minutes and if what he is saying is in fact true, I’m impressed with the titling of this video.
