I cannot take the bust measurement when picking the size that I make. I have a small upper chest so have to take my high bust measurement and do a F.B.A. I know that this video is aimed at beginners but I wish that I had known about taking higher bust measurement when I first started sewing as all my tops did not fit and it is very offputting.
You are so right! I am also small in the upper chest and garments made using my full bust measurement never fit me correctly and are usually too large. They gape around my neck, have extra fabric above the bust, and armholes don't fit correctly. Until I learned this, and picked a smaller size than indicated by my full bust, I never had properly fitting clothes, which is one of the reasons I sew. Maybe with patterns based on a larger cup size it is less of a problem? But it's something to be aware of.
