This is very helpful for reviewing written sheet music and developing sight reading skills. I took 10 years of lessons and played advanced pieces that I slogged through from beginning of school term to spring recital. I didn't learn rhythm, sight reading, accompaniment, and left years of lessons with a repertoire of 5 technical pieces. I didn't know how to just play when I no longer had 3-5 hours a day of available practice time. Now returning to piano 30+ years later I'm learning to enjoy easier arrangements that I can quickly bring to tempo with a little bit of challenge, just to keep things interesting 😉

I have been struggling with sight reading using "notes" instead of intervals. Can't wait to begin using your approach. I really appreciate your honesty about this not happening overnight and it taking significant work. As you said, I had been "fooled" by other teachers boasting how fast their method works. Thank you Brenda for your awesome instructions.

I never thought I could play music without leaving my eyes from the notes to the keyboard. Not looking. Is key to sight reading fast.

@@PianoandVoicewithBrenda Thanks for giving a response to compliment. I am interested in learning music theory to help my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter who has a musical gift and I want to learn to help her when it is time for her to start taking classes. I want to be involved and I want to know the fundamentals to help her with practice and homework the proper way. It is a little to early for her yet, but I want to be ready when the time comes. I am more interested in helping her out to avoid the mistakes I made with her mother.

Hi! Thanks for that. I already did this naturally and automatically to a degree but did not think to be conscious of it. I am ready for it and pretty sure Ive improved my musicianship lately because all of a sudden I figure out melodies quicker than I used to be able to. Doing this I imagine the ear will get better still. Someone mentioned one of your videos on circle of 5ths and I got some more discoveries from it. Thanks again
