teachmegrappling.com This video I wanted to show a very basic hip development drill for throws like the simple hip toss. Megan actually recorded some of my babbling with Phil just before so I left it in. Check out the details and you are sure to find something useful! Enjoy! That little detail about not over extending the foot and emphasizing a good back step with hips in, is a huge benefit that’s totally fixing my throws in live sparring. Thank you!

I did Judo and this is a better throw because my Judo coach did not explain it. I think wrestling Judo throws are better due to the Gi. The Old SchoolJujitsu throws are like your wrestling throws. I do love Sumo Gaeshi cause it can be done no gi and get you in the mount position as a double leg takedown counter. I saw some British No Gi grapplers do it with no Gi and it will work. I saw this on RU-vid

You can turn that whizzer drill into a hugely effective No Gi Uchimata Basically kick the leg upwards between your legs with a donkey kick and I think it will work great. At this time I have no one to practice with and my leg is messed. But I think my idea will work. You should try it. Look at the Judo I hi Mara on RU-vid and I think you will create a great No Gi Uchimata

Phil's struggle to fine tune how much to hip in vs. how much to bail on it in order to not ragdoll you (his partner) was a valuable insight (on par with the drill and lesson itself).

Great video! Although I would say that the basic hip throw/o goshi is a very Greco-Roman thing. In Judo it is the first hip throw you learn for the yellow belt, but I can't remember ever seeing it used in competition. It's so easy to use your right leg as leverage and turn it into a harai goshi or a hanei goshi. But it is good for exercise your hip movement for all forward throws.

That was awesome. Would you confirm, that the mindset should be to "try looking at the toes of your behind foot" ? It looks like that's what you do all the time. You turn and bend down until your eyes are directly above your behind foot.

I use the hip throw often in jiu jitsu! It’s definitely a great move to learn and do. The step is important to ensure you flip them over. I also made a video on my channel showing how to do it 🤙🏼. Nice teaching coach!

This is exactly how I learned o goshi in submission wrestling. Judo and Japanese Jujutsu guys do it with their hips a lot more square and I don't like it. Yet when you throw someone like this, they'll ask if you're a Judoka, because it's so clean. Judo is awesome though.

This is great! Gonna use this drill in Judo! We do entries, but I thought this is very dynnamic and while one does right hand side, the other does left hand side, instead of waiting for 10 or so entries. How is this throw (o goshi) called in wrestling?

Coach Brian is it the same mechanics as the uchi mata?

This same drill can be used for the uchi mata development. Mechanics of the back step are the same.

I always feel like I'm stepping right into a Polish throw when I do this. What do i need to do to not get taken backwards by a strong guy?
@myriamdahmen8500
@myriamdahmen8500 4 месяца назад
underhook pulls them forward onto your back, butt scoots backwards into their hips. Together, this breaks down the posture.
