Hey there, thank you for clicking on this video! What color acoustic foam do you have or are you planning to get? Let me know! Want to learn mroe ways you can improve your audio? Check out this playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLCTcYr3SkIzW3CrgYYI3GxDxgnyManZRe
I have a hard time telling the difference between the last 2 clips. But the first part of the video vs the last part of the video I can totally tell there's a reduction of the echo reverb. Thanks for the informational video!
one thing to note is that the colour black absorbs more energy than white. Most people already know that darker clothing or darker coloured cars are hotter in summer but heat and sound are both energy. The difference is probably minimal but i still recommend you go for black acoustic panels only.
that's for photons on the visible light spectrum, sound waves aren't electromagnetic waves so i doubt they are effected or absorbed by the chromophores in the paneling. Interesting point though, but not applicable here I don't believe unless they absorb some resonance through their highly resonant carbon rings but I doubt it and haven't heard of such before.
Heat from the sun is light, UVA UVB UVC. Light is transversal wave, sound is longitudinal wave. Idk if colour can affect the percentage of the absorption of the sound.
I've been rocking Charcoal and Blue so far. My Complex allows small nails but we do have one wall built with only cender blocks so the 3M Command picture hanging hook&loop strips on the wall along with some glue and opposite velcro to the pannels works wonders.
idk why this video isn't getting much views . i never seen someone explain it better . i watched till last second and re watched it again hope it helps you get suggested to other ppl on youtube . have wonderful day Andrew you are truly legend
Thank you so much HeRo2u for your comments lately they mean a lot! I appreciate the re-watch and hope you found it valuable! If you aren't you should join our Discord! We're building our community and working on making it awesome and helpful Like I hope to do with this channel!
A very good way to Mount them on the wall without hammering a pin through the foam would be with the Heavier duty Command Strips, the one with the Velcro like backing. They are easy to install, easy to move, and incredibly strong.
Great video . One thing I find missing here and all the other tutorials is exactly WHERE and HOW much foam to place. I’m assuming there’s a band all the way around the room that would be equal in height to my microphone, and extending so many inches/feet above and below that height? So like, if I’m speaking into a mic that’s 48 inches above the carpeted floor, do I need a band of foam all the way around my square room, going maybe from 36 to 60 inches above the floor? (That is 12 inches above and below the microphone position?)
I actually bought a 24pk of Blue/Grey, and trying to figure out how/where to do the placement behind & around my Guitar Amp (in an APT, so I've really got my thinking cap on haha 😄)
Yikes! I just bought 24 acoutic tiles hoping to keep my parrot noise in the parrot room. You just said this isn't what they're for. 2 (maybe 3) questions 1. I'm not recording anything. Is there any other use for my tiles, maybe around the tv? 2. How do I keep the parrot screams from leaving the room? 3. Is there really a difference between acoutic and regular foam? I know I could google these queries, but consulting with a human is refreshing. TY from Canada
Hi there! I'll do my best to help, but yeah not really made for sound proofing! 1) You can use them to enhance a home theatre, use them as decoration, or again enhance the sound of a room you're in. 2) You could add carpet/ rug to the room, Soft furniture like a couch, beanbag, etc. can help absorb some of that sound and reduce the ammount that leaves a room. Could also add a bookshelf too! 3) Acoustic Foam is really designed to control sound. It’s denser and often has a unique shape (like wedges or pyramids) to help with sound absorption & reduce echo. Regular Foam: is used for cushioning and insulation, it doesn’t have the same sound-absorbing properties. Regular foam might slightly dampen sound, but it won't be nearly as effective as acoustic foam for sound dampening! Another soloution might be moving blankets as a way to put them on the wall for sound, but again up to you! Hope that helps
Hi thanks for the video, i have a question...Does the foam need to be ON the wall or if i have curtains lets say half a meter before the walls all over the room and hang the foam on them, will this work as well???
There are acoustic foam solutions without wall so not necessarily. It depends the foam you get what it says and if the weight can be supported. Each manufacturer will have its own recommendations. Instead of the curtains why not sound blankets which can act as the same thing :) I can’t speak to adding them to curtains because I just don’t know :/
I have an unfinished basement, so my idea is to put acoustic foam between the wood beams in the ceiling. I figure that it would give a moderate insulation effect and muffle some noise. Theres a lot of venting and wiring, so i want it to be accessible. I suppose i could staple a lot of moving blankets, but I don't think I would like the look
Honestly I’d put rock wool insulation that actually does more for soundproofing. This mostly treats my capturing reflections. Truthfully I am unsure how they would work in the wall. However I understand not liking the looks of moving blankets.
Thank GOD I found this video before i bought acoustic foam 😭, im currently trying my best to soundproof my room for an important job meeting and ive been desperate to try and find ways to soundproof it but to no straight forward answer!!
In regards to the first/final clip, I do feel that while the gating was very necessary with the reverb in the untreated space (0:00), the gating feels quite aggressive for the treated space (7:35). How bad are reverb trails with lighter gating with that sort of setup? Thanks!
My plan is probably black/grey for behind the camera and if I need to put any in front I want a different color cause black blends in with my hair a bit too much
Hello @RetroAndChill that makes sense! Sounds like a solid plan. You could use a hair light to help your hair stand out from the background! it's just a light angled towards your hair, and can cause seperation! I use one and helps a lot!
Hi I like playing music but I don't want to bother other people cuz it's too loud So my question is Can acoustic Reducing the sound coming from my room ?
It will help a little, but sadly a better bet is to put a bookshelf or things that can help with the panels. The panels are mostly to help when you're recording within a room.
Good to see you again@@AndrewK probably not going to use it, in my office I have so much bedding items, (became an Amazon Influencer) that it helps to muffle sound in their for voiceovers,, but very interesting and would be using it if I needed to in the future. Hope you are having an awesome weekend!
It won’t really do that so well. A high pile rug might be better and can fit a room better. Can also try sound/moving blankets but all of these most help with sound in a room except the high pile rug can do a bit of both
Awesome Phil! Happy to hear that! The shirt is honestly just a mood anytime I upload at this point LOL. I hope you enjoy setting up your studio! What colors will you be getting of the foam?
hi, is the foam reduces noise? i mean i have a room with double plywood walls and plywood ceiling. when my son playing inside the room i heared the noise outside.
It can reduce noise IN the room, but won't necessarily stop it on the outside. that's more soundproofing than accoustic foam treatment like in this one. It will help the room SOUND better, and some but not what you're looking for :/ Sorry .
As far as color goes, stay away from white, or other light colors. ALL foam gets yellow over time, so whatever color you choose, after 2 years, it will look like that color, dipped in yellow t-shirt die. This is why Black, or yellow, is the best option. My room was done in Black, Yellow, White, and light grey, but now the white is yellow, so it's more Black, yellow, and greyish yellow. My best looking solution was getting canvas painting frames, and filling them with baby blankets, then covering it with soft thick curtain material. Looks really nice, and baby blanket absorbs more than foam, or towels.
Interesting feedback on the white coloring of the foam. Didn't think of that. Sorry that happened, but the silver linings is you can help other. I'll keep this in mind in further recommendations!
Trying to install my panels with a tpin and its very common for the edges to "fold in" and thus I need a total of 3 pins. Is this normal? Everyone is getting them in 1
I’ve been dealing with acoustic foam falling off of my walls for about 3 years now. Never got to officially fixing it so I always find myself pushing all the acoustic foams that were falling off the wall back in the wall for years now (on to the thick double sided gorilla tape which they said it would stick and work but didn’t) and I’ve been busy and never got to this until today. Thanks can’t wait to hammer in some T-pins 😂
How do you make it look good though? I bought it years ago and never used it and want to put it to use with my gaming setup. Imo just a wall of flip flopped is generic and boring My room is oddly shaped though (above garage so the walls and roof meet halfway)
So the flip flopped helps with the sound proofing. Looks is hard because everyone has different taste. Here is a website for patterns that help with the sound! sound-zero.com/how-to-customise-your-ceilings-and-walls-with-acoustic-panels/
will this work better than a booth made with PVC pipes and moving blankets? My whole room is 8x12 my "booth" inside it would be 4x6. I wonder which option is best (and less $$)
The booth would be better for sound recording. This is if you want to film, but hide some of the sound dampening. Overall this would be more affordable, but depends your desired outcome!
@@AndrewK ---thanks...but for VO only....so I may just hang some blankets...gonna put grommets in them and use the command hooks -- do I need to cover all four walls completely?
Hey Alkaye sorry for slow repsone didn't get notified by RU-vid! Whereever the level of your mic and mouth is should be covered, but hard to say since every space and piece of gear is different :x
Command strips might not be the best. I'd say that there are some soloutions ,but personally I haven't used them and I don't know the best soloution .Sorry :/
It's not bad, but really depends what you want. if YOu REALLY want to control the room echo then yeah, but again you'll know what you want to do with it 😅
I've never tried this personally, but my only concern would be that the foam might have isseus with shadows on the lighting. Alhtough some programs are so good you can't tell it's NOT greenscreen these days.
@@AndrewK I've never really never gotten such a quick response on the internet 😀, Well it would probably need dvar waves or some other lower profile foam and front lighting, I'm planning to start streaming and so I've been thinking about it 🙂. thank you, maybe I'll buy a smaller piece and try it. first I have to focus on the door because the European house from the 18th century is so crooked that I have a 2.3cm gap on the upper left side when the door is closed 😀. thank you for fastests answer
Thank you for flagging, i've updated the description with the correction format found here: support.google.com/youtube/answer/57404?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop#:~:text=For%20corrections%20in%20your%20video,appear%20after%20any%20video%20chapters. So a card will show in the video. Everything else though is still true. I might see what else I can do for not catching that.
@@AndrewK it's my favorite color. When I made the first coment a box came up asking me to be civle and something else. Do you know what that is called so I can search how to enable it on my channel.
In the room where I want panels I’m not recording, I’m just playing bass. But I don’t want to piss of my neighbours. So where would I put the panels then? I’ve just moved in so I don’t want to get on anyone’s bad side😂
@@monkeyslut_ sadly these will make the room you’re in sound better and absorb a little bit of the sound. However, they’re not going to stop sound from leaking out 😅
@AndrewK it could very well just be my ears. I did try on two different speakers however. I also clicked on this video when trying to understand whether or not I needed acoustic treatment. Please also don't take me for a troll. Your video was otherwise very informative and well put together. I appreciate your willingness to educate.
