Learner drivers now allowed on UK motorways

Learner drivers are now allowed on UK motorways, but with provisos. Only car learners in a dual control car with a qualified driving instructor are allowed.
My thoughts and views on why this is a missed opportunity. Why are learner motorcyclists not allowed when, for example, having DAS instruction?
Having said that, it must be good news that at least SOME learners are getting some motorway experience under supervision before being unleashed after passing their test.

As you pointed out a Dual Carriageway is virtually the same as a Motorway so I can't see why Learners under instruction are not allowed on motorways. Another point is that All instructors say they are instructing You to be a "Safe Driver / Rider on the Road, passing the test is just part of the process" but if you are not allowed on All roads and driving conditions it's rather contradictory.

Is it going to improve the standard of driving? I doubt it. Because most people already know the rules, they just ignore them. The people causing most problems are the ones exceeding the limit of distracted by their phones. The way to solve it is by better enforcement and more severe penalties.

Don't agree. I think it's a good move even if it's a missed opportunity due to the limits on which learners can no use a motorway. There always has to be enforcement (and that should be by Police in person, not some abstract camera or machine) and penalties but I think education is the better way to go. Thanks for watching

Middleaged Rider education is already there. It's taught in the theory, in the highway code, and in practice on dual carriageways. People just willingly flaunt it because of laziness or disregard.

Learners should be allowed if they have instructors with them. As for 125cc learners on bikes, I don't think anything that small should be on a motorway, although I have seen l plated 125s on the motorway before now. I just feel a 125 gets blown about to much for something like a motorway. In cars, I have no issue with it, or a bigger bike such as a 250cc+ with instructors on DAS or a2 tests to me should be something that is a thing. Great video again. By the way there is some weird audio issue with crackling during the video, just saying if you didn't notice or whatever!

I rode a 125cc loan bike on the motorway once when one of mine was in for servicing, Scary stuff, especially being overtaken and the wind draught of big trucks!! Yes, I don't know what's up with the audio. Think my mic as well as my Drift camera are giving up the ghost.

The problem for learners around my way is that there are no motorways anywhere near us lol. Dual carriageways should be enough as you sat motorways are pretty much the same.

Yes, some parts of the country are miles away from a motorway which is why it's always been sensible not to have motorways as a compulsory part of the driving test. Thanks for watching

Yes if they there isn't any motorways near you I guess that's another story, I'm based in Kent with the M2 starting around the corner and M20 not far away them there is the M25 with Dartford Tunnels & QE2 Bridge, we are spoilt for choice so they are a way of life so a little training would only be of benefit even if it's to just what "Others" do on M/ways eg speeding, last minute junction exit, slip road merging without using mirrors or matching speed etc!
